Hi been reading alot round the forums and i cant seem to find the answer to my problem or not that i know of lol. I got a samsung galaxy s2 in november last year and its a great phone even with its small flaws (yellow tint screen and ramdon re-boots and apps not working) but the main problem for me as title says is the wifi. Every other phone i have had the wifi not been a problem and only ever had the one router etc so it makes me think it might be the phone as the router and wifi currently works great with my old nokia n900 and my dads iphone 3gs/4s etc. Anyway my problem is i have connected the router with my phone the very fast time i turned the beast on but i noticed straight away that even when next to the router the signal never full strength always 1/2 bars and when try use it in my room (3rd floor) gos to 1bar/0 although on my nokia n900 always stays strong as on dads iphones any surgestions to why this may happen?? Also worst thing is the wifi keeps cutting out so the symbol wil b there but no bars and jus have the circle trying to load etc for ages befor then sayin no connection etc so i have to keep disconnecting the wifi then reconnecting on my phone (not the router jus on the phone using notification bar) iv never had this with any other phone and really starting to annoy me cos i mainly use wifi etc. Must also point out that once i get the problem of it not loading and there for disconnecting it wil then happen like every 10mins etc yet until the very 1st disconnection can take upto 30mins befor the wifi starts to play up if makes sense. Hope someone will b able to help me with this as i downloaded an app called wifi analyser (thank u nothern dj lol) and it shows that in my area of wifi around me mine is the strongest (obviously) and its the only network using channel4 most of the others r using channel 11 so in my eyes even more strange to y the phone cant keep a constant signal with my router.
Hope somone can sort this mess out for me and hope the long post didnt make u fall sleep lol thanks guys.

Hi Krash
Is your SIM card older than 2 years?
The SGSII seems to have issues with Older SIM cards. Perhaps get a free replacement from your local Vodafone Store.
Also with Apps failing to load etc. this could indicate that the phone needs a Factory Reset.
This does solve many problems.
Backup all your Data, then in the Dialer type *2767*3855# This will Hard Reset the Phone back to As New condition.

Sounds like a faulty Phone then, I would arrange for a Under Warranty Repair.
How do I arrange for my phone to be repaired?

Mine does similar...at home wifi is dire on S2 (50% strength in same room) and i cant get a signal upstairs, while BB and iPhone are still at about 50+%.
I also think router has something to do with it as i can get a full wifi signal from some other routers i.e McDonalds, work
There was a post recently about this and one of the CE's was saying about certain routers are better than others...but i cant find it now

The problem hear is a New phone on a old network
The Wifi is set to new current settings so older routers can be a problem
Basically they need to be 108mbps not the old 50
The phone can cope but can fall off
Yes there is a issue with some firmware O2 have had major issues
Now your local Service centre can check your phone out for you and is very fast
they have a check list and a test box that will report back any problems
Most Samsung service centre know of this issue and can resolve this if its the phone
You need to try this on another network
Now you do say it can reserve other signals now that tells me the phone is fine as it sees them
I would now get the phone checked if Samsung say its fine then the finger points still at the rouiter

Hi northern dj what do u mean by can reserve other signals? I have a linkeys router (think how spell it lol) and its bout 6yrs old 54mbps not sure that makes things clearer? My dad iphone 4s on Vodafone handles the wifi no problem and my Nokia n900 bit annoyed that the galaxy doesn't as other then that and the camera and video displaying black screen now and then its a great phone. Also had a look and there isn't any Samsung service centers near me at all
Arrrrr Ha 54mbps is hard for the phone to coupe with as its a slow speed, we had this with the SGS not saying it carn't but depending on other wifi in your area you can get problems. Early WIfi was messy in signal quality
Most newer routers now filter out interferance, which will make it better for your phone to pick up
Now the wifi reciver on the phone is not as Hitech as a Laptop and has its limits
The ipone will coupe better as its made for the USA market who are not spead freeks like us here and the fare east
But it does slow it down
Six years for a Router is good and the Linksy was a Good bit of kit
Some laptop users have problems when buying now USB recivers being compatable
It does sound like Old working with new
the best Sihnal at the moment is 108Mbps and "N" range as its very clean on signal
Now thats the routers
The Phone
Firmware can upset things on the SGS the best Firmware was 2.2.1JPY Froyo Reception was spot on, On 2.3 Ginger bread the took some of the power from the WIFI and moved it to GPS
The reason was GPS Fix with phones there is only so much power
So Firmware can make a Massive differance
The best phone for Wifi Is HTC as the recivers is spot on samsung used to be good but there phones are now looking cheap and plasticy
Iphone has had its problems if you hold it wroung

Now this might supprise you but you can have two networks
Depending on the router
there alot of good routers out there Avoid Netgear routers or any bassed on them
eg Virginmedia
I had a Netgear that the phone would not sea at all
They way i would rig this up is
Buy a new router eg Belkin use that as your major router then plug your linksey in to a port on the router
you can set the router up as a Through router, to the Linksy one
Now this means you get Two wifi signals
A fast One on the N range
and a Slower one it can take some setting up but it is possible
Routers have come down alot in price make sure they have a areial on More the better
But they range from £20 upwards
But i would do some more testing eg at Mc donalds as that is 56mbps just to clear things up
It is a shame on this as the Linksy is a good modem i would still have a mess around with the settings but the phone works better on the N range
Try getting the channels up near 13 that may help

I bit of noob when comes to changing settings etc as not been changed at all since had the router lol how would i go about tryin to improve the signal flow and what settings to change to? Yea i agree i not had a problem with my linksy router just a shame that the phone doesn't see 54mbps as good nuf speed for constant signal etc. I may have to get a new router for sake of newer and future phones but tbh might just put up with having to re connect every so often even tho it is frustrating! Lol just wish was easy fix that could do o and the router is on channel4 according to wifi analyzer where most other networks neighbours and pubs mostly use channel11 not sure if anything in that but i didn't see an option to change channels.
The signal flow is better on channels 1,6,13 Now as standered all routers are on 6 so any side of channel 6 will get leak over
channel 4 is not a good channel
Ihave found this
http://www.dslreports.com/faq/14250
Its not to complicated and it does cover your range of router Ish
The only thing to add is it only goes to 11 you can go to 13 on the later routers
Now you don't have to be to tecy minded for this
In your web brouser you need to put the Ip address of the router in
eg 192.168.1.1 but this can change depending on the manufacture
it may ask for a pass word, then look for wifi settings and the channel change over to what you want then apply
The router may restart
Then try again

If the laptops are on it will disconnect them briefly they will reconnect
I would go with channel 1 and go from there basically as stated in the website you need to be if possible five channels away from the closest signal.
Its a case of trying this
You will have to do this again when you get a new one if you choose to
