no buttons on web pages in latest stock browser

Has anyone else seen this? When I press the built-in Internet app (ICS 4.0.3) I get the Google web page but without the search button at the end, just an open square. Subsequent web pages all display errors, missing controls and getting boundaries slightly off. I can't find any similar reports out there but it's clearly a software error. I have tried clearing the cache, reducing the memory in use and resetting the phone, all to no avail. The funny thing is that I've downloaded the ICS Browser+ third-party app and even though it's based on the stock browser it works fine. Is there any way of checking the stock browser app version and /or the redownloading just that individual system app?

Cheers for any help folks :-)

Re: no buttons on web pages in latest stock browser

Hi sapman,

To be honest I’ve not seen this before with the update however can I ask if you have tried any other browsers or is this just on the stock web browser?

Also have you tried a factory reset? Did you do this after the update or not?

If you can give this a go we will be able to investigate this further for you.

James

Re: no buttons on web pages in latest stock browser

I have never done a factory reset before and I'm concerned not to lose my customisation - icons moved into folders, settings set as a I like them, many downloaded apps I don't either want to lose or have to reinstall etc etc.

The missing, outlined-only buttons and text in the wrong place is only a current feature of the stock Android ICS browser from the Internet app icon. I have downloaded the third-party ICS browser+ and that seems so far to be fine on the same phone but I would obviously like to fix the stock Internet browser as well.

Thanks for your reply.

Re: no buttons on web pages in latest stock browser

u say icons moved into folders ?

is that something like apex or nova as you can backup the config in there settings page?

make sure in the main system settings under backup and reset that you have backup my data and automatic restore to take care of your apps form the market place, if your contacts are only synced with google then they are safe and finally copy all the memory and external sd card content but do not copy it back as it may bugger up some settings from gingerbread to ICS.

you can recover files form them but best to redo settings from 3rd party applications.

once your sure everythings backed up do a full factory reset, it is a must when upgrading and will fix your issues.

OK, I'll do it. How do I do the "full factory reset" when everything's backed up?

Thanks for all your help so far. Cheers.

Re: no buttons on web pages in latest stock browser

open the phones dialer and type...

*2767*3855#

This will wipe everything from the phone and do a full factory reset.
