Bluetooth not working with in-car system

I've been trying to get the S3 paired up with my in-car system (working fine on the HTC) but I'm getting nowhere with this on the S3.  I had the same problem a few months back with the S2 which is why I ended up cancelling that one.

Are people experiencing a similar problem, and is there a fix to get it working?

Re: Bluetooth not working with in-car system

Not tried that, but I should be able to register more than one phone with the system. Worth giving that a try I guess as can always re-register the old one afterwards.

Re: Bluetooth not working with in-car system

I can't help you out there. My car is a 35 year old Austin Mini. The only modern feature it has is remote central locking and Halogen headlights however I do connect the phone in to the cars stereo system via the 3mm jack lol

Re: Bluetooth not working with in-car system

I have a 2011 Ford Fiesta.

Thankfully my phone paired with the car. Although this does not help your situation, it is at least a bit more information as to whether it may be an issue with a particular car make or if it is your phone.

Re: Bluetooth not working with in-car system

Hi I too have tried pairing my new Samsung Galaxy S3 to my Mazda 3. I had an iPhone 4 before and it paired fine and allowed me to control the music play back from the steering wheel controls. Excitedly I paired my new handset, which worked but needed a couple of goes. Both the calls and media play options were ticked in the Bluetooth settings on the phone once paired. But could not initiate any music via the cars controls. Couldn't start playback only through the phone itself (which isn't very legal whilst driving) Couldn't change tracks, pause, restart play via the steering wheel controls or via car head unit. Although again all these functions worked on the phone. Have done some digging online after a very poor discussion with a Vodafone customer care person, who effectively told me to talk to Samsung directly. Looks like that people who have moved to the new version of Android (ice cream sandwich) are experiencing difficulties with Bluetooth. looking at handsets that have been upgraded to the new version they are also experiencing Bluetooth problems, some can't pair, some pair OK but then disconnect intermittently. Looks like there is either something fundamentally wrong with the ice cream sandwich Bluetooth stack, or Google have changed this without proper testing. What I want to know is when is there a fix going to be rolled out to make Bluetooth work as it use to under the previous version of Android (gingerbread)? Just so you know I have another pay as you go Android phone using gingerbread and it works perfectly with my cars Bluetooth music functions, (so does my friends Nokia Lumia we tried today). As I travel a lot for work am thinking of backing the Samsung Galaxy S3 and go back to my iPhone 4 as I like to have my music and to stay safe whilst driving!!!

Re: Bluetooth not working with in-car system

Why laugh at the thought of someone 'dumping' the phone because it won't pair with the car? I consider this to be a serious issue. I have an iPhone 4 and a Parrot handsfree that supports Bluetooth streaming of music and I can control the pod functions to some extent via Bluetooth.

I am seriously considering changing to the S3 but if I thought it would not pair with my handsfree and steam music I would very happily keep my iPhone 4. I asked here ages ago if the S3 will support Bluetooth streaming and was told it would be the Android aficionados.

It better had or I will be sticking to the iphone which is still a wonderful piece of kit.

Re: Bluetooth not working with in-car system

People also consider a few dust imperfections to be a serious issue too?

There is a problem with the bluetooth feature not pairing to Merc's and Jags. They are 2 that I know off and i'm sure Samsung will probably fix this in an update. The S1 had its fair share of niggles in the begining and most were easily sorted out...

Re: Bluetooth not working with in-car system

The poster has a Mazda. These things do happen a lot - Fords have a problem with certain versions of iOS, But this is a very different issue to some minor manufacturing imperfections.

Using a phone in a car is something that some of us have to do a lot. It is a potentially major issue.

Re: Bluetooth not working with in-car system

Its not a problem with IOS mor like the Bluetooth its self this started back when the S2 came out

Car manufactures are well behind in Bluetooth Tec

Ford Use Blutooth V1.5 which is five years old

The problem is that they manufacture it at the time but have never updated it

Its a case of Old Tec Not being able to see New tec

The Mobile phone industry has Developed in leaps

The Automotive industry is way behind

This is one of the pitfalls of Manufactue Bluetooth

some are even ditching Bluetootooth and going Hardwired

You will also find as well that on some kits they have been limited just to phone calls

How old is the Bluetooth system ????

Make of Car

Is it a Manufacture dedicated kit or has it been fitted ?

Re: Bluetooth not working with in-car system

We all agree that Bluetooth is a poor protocol. That wasn't the point I was making at all. But it doesn't matter now.

Re: Bluetooth not working with in-car system

@ Darth/Pacman.

I can understand why you would be disapointed with the problems you are having. I am involved with the accreditation of systems and it is amazing how certain areas are not researched enough when it comes to running a project.

It is obvious you would expect a phone to connect with your car, and you would expect any company selling a phone to have done their homework. Of course even with research, things can go wrong.

I believe that Samsung will be quick to issue updates to rectify any oversight in the blu-tooth connection. Of course this isn't exactly the kind of thing you want to hear on receipt of a new phone.

Re: Bluetooth not working with in-car system

Yes if there was a problem with the Phone But who updates the Car if its the car that is at fault

Up until last year there was no Guidelines on Bluetooth

So Manufactures were left to do there own thing

Now there is but the Goody too shoes have got there way, Bluetooth streaming is on its way out

all you will be able to do is to make phone calls

this is why S Voice can be set up in drive mode

Re: Bluetooth not working with in-car system

Fair comment DJ, but just how different are car blue tooth systems (genuine question).

Surely there can't be that many that when a phone company creates a phone they can't try to ensure it will work with the majority of car systems. Of course it is probably impossible to ensure compatibility with every system(?)

I promise you I am not knocking the S3, I love my frikken phone, it's awesome! Ithink it is the best phone on the market at the moment (for my requirements anyway) :smileyhappy: .....or Samsung for that point (I have several Samsung products).

Just saying I can understand that when someone gets something 'new', it can be disappointing when some things don't quite hit the level you expect.

Yes it's life, but no less disappointing.

I agree But Phone manufacture do comply with every thing with regards Bluetooth

The Blue Tooth on the S is  v4.0 with A2DP, EDR

Now please take a look at

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bluetooth

Now that might get a bit to tecnical

But if you look at all the verious versions you will see how Bluetooth has changed

As for in car it boils Down to the manufactures making there kit compliant
