Re: Custom Roms

I don't really feel the need at the moment.

I might be tempted to try a few Launchers in time, but at the moment their is so much going on in this Phone that the need to wonder isn't there.

I've still got an SGS1 to play with :smileyvery-happy:

@Ado

Not enough difference to entice me I'm afraid!

I'm going to wait a bit longer yet, and make sure the die hards have discovered all the pit falls. :smileywink:

Hi Wazek, rooting and unrooting is easy however if you have never done it before then I would advise reading up on it first. I have a youtube channel dedicated to flashing/ rooting/ unrooting and it can be viewed by scanning my avitar. The flashing process for the S3 is identical to the S1& 2.

Benefits of rooting include full root access to every file on the phone, being able to modify any file (caution needed and best left along if you don't know what your doing) and you can also download apps which are designed and will only work on rooted phones. With a rooted phone you can make nandroid back ups which is like system restore for your home pc.

Downfall:

  1. Your warranty is void if you hand a phone in for repair which is rooted.
  2. Unrooting and restoring the phone to factory standard is very easy.
  3. YOU CAN BRICK THE PHONE however the Galaxys are more or less bullet proof and I haven't killed one yet. I bricked one for demonstration purposes which you can see in my videos and showed people how to recover it!

Re: Custom Roms

Cheers I'll take a look and see if it interests me,I have dabbled with gadgets in the past so I may have a play.

I might buy an old sgs and have a go on the 1st,before trying anything on a £500 phone that's less than a month old.

Ado,could you either post a link to your YouTube or pm one to me,cheers.

Re: Custom Roms

If you have a barcode scanner installed on your phone just scan ado's picture, it'll take you to the link.

If you don't just download red laser, then follow above :smileyhappy:

Sometimes the simple answer is overlooked because it's technology that's complicated!

Re: Custom Roms

Rooted on stock. I would be tempted by some kind of HTC Sense type rom but I've rooted primary for root call block, lucky patcher, sd maid and titanium backup.

Pleased how much more straight forward it is to root compared to the desire

Call reject is a standard feature on the S3 without rooting :smileywink:

Re: Custom Roms

Teamhacksung already have a port of CM9 for the S3 however I'm just staying on my rooted stock for just now. CM9 on the S1 is making that device fly and my S1 has never performed as good as it has since using CyanogenMod. CM9 should be a belter when its offically rolled out for the S3

Re: Custom Roms

SD maid
Clockworkmod
Lucky patcher
Dsp manager

I'm very tempted by the omega 5.1 rom. The only. Things that irritates me is custom toms never seem to be totally bug free. I can't be bothered with all the hassle. I will be keeping my eye on the omega thread though especially with the video recording improvement that comes with it

That's how I feel, I think I have installed every Rom there is for the SGS1 but I can't find anything to tempt me yet!

I think it's just early days...

Re: Custom Roms

Faryaab's AOKP looks a good one; just waiting for the cm9 LED flash bug to be ironed out of the camera, then going to have a play! Rooted for now.
