MMS Problem

hi,

wondering if someone can help. recently upgraded to S3. and have problems with MMS messaging.

I can send messages fine (i think i sent one and it went). but receiving messages is strange. I get an MMS and it doesn't automatically download, i have to press the download button. then nothing happens. but after about 20 times hitting download and changing settings it downloads. Then again i receive one and nothing happens.

i've rung vodafone "tech" support people, and all they do is send me the settings, and confirm MMS is activated on my account.

any suggestions?

cheers

Darren

Re: Can't receive picture messages?

Send the word 'web' (no quote marks) to 40127.

Re: Can't receive picture messages?

Nope that will not fix it

By default MMS is switched off on all new accounts even upgrades

You need to speak to 191 and askthem if they can switch it on or go through to tecniacl secound tier and they will turn MMS back on

Re: Can't receive picture messages?

Fair enough on new accounts, but I just upgraded and can send and receive picture messages fine. I do have a problem sending and receiving them using handcent sms however so have to use the stock messaging app.

Re: Can't receive picture messages?

Hi j_blaze

I can see you have received some good advice from Dmuggy (thanks Dmuggy kudos :smileyhappy:) Can you confirm if this worked for you and if you can now send/receive picture messages?

As northern-dj has mentioned sometimes you need to have this activated onto your account on a network level and for us to be able to do this we will need to access your account and give you a call.

If you would like us to add this for you please reply back to the private message I have just sent you and we'll be in touch :smileyhappy:

Thanks

Matthew

P.S You can find your PM inbox here.

Re: MMS Problem

Sometimes mms is off on your account by default but if they say its on it must be something else.

What apn is your phone set to use? Settings, more settings, mobile networks, access point name.

Re: MMS Problem

It should work with that. Mine does.

I would try asking one of the mods on here if they can check your account again to make sure mms is activated.

Alternatively could you not use email instead of mms, works and cheaper!

Re: MMS Problem

Can you open up the messaging app, press menu, settings, and check that auto retrieve is ticked in the mms section.

Re: MMS Problem

If your wifi is on it will not work

MMS only works via 3G

Re: MMS Problem

I would definitely ask one of the mods on here if they can check your account for you.

Re: MMS Problem

If it only works in 3g that might be my problem. I rarely get 3g. Its usually H or E.

Re: MMS Problem

Hi churchy

Thanks for your post. It does appear that you have the correct APN on your account from what you've said, however just to doubly make sure I would send a free text to 40127 with the word WEB and the settings will be sent straight to your phone.

If this still doesn't fix the issue the we'll double check that your account is provisioned for MMS services. I've sent a private message with details of how to contact us directly.

You can find your PM inbox here. If you can't access this link, please ensure that the box next to "Turn on private messages" is ticked on this page, and let us know if you need any further assistance.

Thanks

Simon

Re: Can't receive picture messages?

I've not been able to send or receive mms messages for the last year!

I've asked a couple of times (via 191)  for this to be fixed but to no avail. I've had umpteen sms configuration texts but they don't deal with the problem..

From the evidence of the test below it looks very likely that I have the same problem as described above (I have the S II but I'm looking at the S III as my next move - to keep it on topic!).

I've got the correct mms settings in my phone for my contract SIM but get an error if I try to send a picture message. Incoming mms messages never download.

Just to prove that this is a SIM provisioning problem, I took a Vodafone PAYG SIM from another phone and put it into my SGS2. After switching the APN from Contract to PAYG the phone had no problem sending an mms using this SIM.

Could someone who understands this problem and can make the appropriate change to my account/SIM get in contact please.

Re: MMS Problem

[ Edited ]

Hi I was wondering if the OP has had this issue fixed? I have had the same issue for weeks and it is driving me round the bend. I have been in to store checked all my settings were correct with them and still MSS just are not working.

When I first got the phone MMS were coming in fine, phone was even auto turning on data to get them and turning off when finished. Now I don't even get a notification I have a message let alone data turning on. I just get the "download" button on messages which does nothing no matter how many times I click it. I have tried recieving MMS off different phones and networks and none of them work.

The download button just does nothing and its driving me round the bend.

Re: MMS Problem

You would be better off using an app like WhatsApp nowadays instead of MMS (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.whatsapp&feature=nav_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDMsImN...)

MMS is a dead technology and they charge more than they should for this service.

Re: MMS Problem

@pteale

but if you get it as part of your package you'd rather use the service that you're already paying for...

Sometimes the simple answer is overlooked because it's technology that's complicated!
