Samsung SIII Opinions

I am considering a contract for the Samsung SIII and would like some opinions from users of the phone.

I am new to Android, and would like to know whether Android is easy to use, and would be really grateful to hear how the phone performs on the Vodafone network.

Many thanks all.

Ann

Re: Samsung SIII Opinions

Thank you NDJ for you encouraging words.

I did pop into the Vodafone store at Epsom last week and had a little play with the phone.  The guy in the store mentioned that the sat nav is so much better than any Tom Tom and showed me how to set up a new account through Google.

I look forward to talking to Andoid users, and if I have any problems, I know my friends here on the forum will help.

Re: Samsung SIII Opinions

I think your a good candidate for the DLP and i think you will find after then you will want one

I demo Android devices and many have neverf used a smart phone

As for sat nav Nav 4 free is even better as the maps are downloaded first

On the S3 you can shut your data off so you never loose your data allowance

Re: Samsung SIII Opinions

NDJ,

How does the phone perform on the Vodafone network ? I have seen a thread about a signal problem with the phone.

Are there any problems with the phone software ?

Apart from Vodafone Live, how much Vodafone branding is there on the phone ?

Thank you NDJ.

Re: Samsung SIII Opinions

Hi Ann

I can honestly say the S3 is the BEST Phone I have ever used! As you know I've tried a few... :smileywink:

The User Interface on Android is very intuitive, and the phrase "Your Phone, Your Way!" is very apt!

It will be a steap learning curve, but it is an enjoyable journey full of surprises!

As N-dj has said, you have many friends here, all of whom will be happy to help!

I cannot recommend this Phone enough...!

Re: Samsung SIII Opinions

No issues with Firmware or signal for me!

GPS location is ultra accurate, as is the SaNav feature of Google Maps.

Only 5 Vodafone Apps;

App Select

Discover

Updates

My Webs

Vodafone Music

My Webs and Vodafone Music can be uninstalled.

The other 3 I just put into a Folder.

No other branding or Splash screens what so ever!

Re: Samsung SIII Opinions

Thank you TSD for your helpful comments.

I have just been on Mobile Fun and Amazon, ordered a case to protect the phone, an in car charger which I always like to keep in the car and a holder which is out of stock, oh and I ordered a micro SIM adaptor so I can still use my Nokia.

Its about time I got myself an Android phone and have got to admit that the SIII is an amazing phone.

I will be asking loads of questions.

Thank you guys,

If one of the team would like to contact me, we can do a deal.

Re: Samsung SIII Opinions

The phone is amazing.

If you use your phones for email a lot though please be aware that Gmail doesn't handle HTML emails properly (doesn't support zooming so you have to scroll around the very large images) and is completely unusable at the moment for this. This is an Android problem and nothing to do with the S3 but I wanted to make you aware of it because my wife recently switched from iPhone to Android and noticed this limitation with Gmail straight away.

Hopefully Google will fix this in a future update of the Gmail app but they have been very lazy and despite 4 majot version of Android still have chose not to fix this problem.

I will be giving them ###### about this flaw with Gmail next week at Google IO because this is a basic feature I would expect in all mobile email clients.

Re: Samsung SIII Opinions

I have had no problems i had a Galaxy S before so i am used to Samsung i have been doing alot of research in to what is going on

I could go into detail be its far to complecated basicly the Galaxy S3 will not fry your brain see

http://www.sardatabase.com

The Higher the sar the more damage it can do

samsung are leading the way others need to follow

On the reception thread a user went and changed networks (bit drastic) but got full signal from Orange

Vodafone's signal on 3G is lower then Orange in some areas

I have had problems here ware i live and this effected all sorts of phones.

Hence the Wet string

But with the S3 its been spot on i'm testing with out my suresignal at the moment and i have had no problems

even check with my old Nokia and its the same

One thing i have found is HTC and Apple scan rate is lower so they have less signal flutuation

But in low signal the S3 works better and get a signal faster

It was Hard to find a Bad signal area near me lol

Samsung have not reported any issues, You will find people don't like change

Spot on I would disable these as they run in the back ground

Discover (Vodafone uses Data and Battery)

Updates (same as above)

Yahoo Finance (Uses data and battery)

Yahoo News ( same as above )

I only have App select in a Folder the rest is not showing

The Bloatware works (makes a change) Via 3G only there is no Rubbish Boot screen

I carn't see the point of these apps as there more expencive the the Play store

The My Vodafone would be ok if the data worked but its out of date bu the Openzone bit works

Re: Samsung SIII Opinions

I have to say this is the best phone I have ever used.

Extremely fast, smooth and superb display.

I have had no signal issues. The only problem has been with using a non standard message alert! but This is due to the app rather than the phone.

If you come to this with an open mind you should be fine. This phone can't do everything that everyone wants! no phone can, iPhones can do some things better, this can do lots of things better (that's my opinion).

As you know there are some great people here to help.

USB to go cable works fine with mouse and USB memory stick.

Re: Samsung SIII Opinions

Hi Ann,

Today is day 3 with my S3 having moved over from the iPhone 4. I am thoroughly enjoying it and there are certainly more settings to play with on the S3 than the iPhone. But that novelty will wear off soon enough.

But I have to say that all the 'everything is easy' on Android is a little over the top. Apart from the extra customisation I haven't yet found anything on the S3 that I couldnt do just as easily on the I4. And there is one thing so far that I cannot do easily.

But the phone itself is excellent and my I4 now looks so small and feels so heavy now.

I'm sure you will enjoy it - I am!!

Re: Samsung SIII Opinions

Best feature for me hands down is the battery.

Mobile phone batteries over the years have generally not kept up with other advances in technology but the battery in the S3 is pretty awesome.

On days of moderate use I still have 70% battery left at the end of the day, on a day of heavy use that drops to about 40%

Do you have the 16GB or 32GB versions ?

Would you recommend getting the 16GB or wait for Vodafone to get stock of the 32GB?

Thanks guys.

Re: Samsung SIII Opinions

Hi Ann

I've got the 16GB White version.

The fact that you can add external Micro SD cards meant that paying the extra for the 32GB wasn't really needed for me.

The Camera can be set to save directly to external storage, so if you plan to take a lot of HD Video, storage wont be an issue.

Also with the 50GB dropbox account, when in WiFi range your Stuff will be uploaded automatically.

It's simply a choice... I felt no need for the extra but that's not to say you shouldn't get it if you feel you need it!

Re: Samsung SIII Opinions

This has an extra slot for micro sd card so its not worth waiting for, you can add up to 64 of extra storage in that
