Re: 2.2.1

Hi Bods, to be honest there is very little difference between JPX and JPY which is the latest firmware however if your egar to upgrade have you thought about going down the custom rom route? to do this you will need to root your phone. I'm running darky's 9.3 extream edition rom and it's blazing fast. Jim has just installed JS7 which is another rom out so i'm waiting to hear his comments on that rom. You could also visit the kitchen and cook your own rom :smileyhappy: http://romkitchen.org/ I love the whole rom kitchen idea as it allows you to install exactly what you want including stock apps :smileywink:

Back up all your Media

Make a written note of your apps

Format your internal and external SD Card

Perform a Factory reset and log into Google account

Now connect to Kies

Upgrade to 2.2.1

Perform a Factory Reset

Format the SD card/s again

Log into Google account

Fresh install of apps from Market

This will give you an absolutely trouble free installation. Ignore this at your peril.

I strongly endorse thesoupdragon's advice above.

I experienced the same problem on 3 separate occasions post firmware updates, twice via Kies and once Odin, namely freezing when trying to boot-up the phone.  I had always performed a factory reset before and after the upgrades, but never an SD card reformat.  I had noticed that even after a factory reset there was apparent junk left on the SD card.

When I had the same problem yesterday, following upgrade to the VF 2.2.1 variant via Kies, I decided to try reformatting my internal SD card.  Bingo, phone booted up successfully.

Re: 2.2.1

Hi everyone,

I've rooted by phone using z4root and then applied the OCLF one click lag fix.  Does anyone know if I need to remove any of this before updating via Kies?

Thanks

JDK.

Hi JDK,

You need to remove/undo the OCLF (One Click Lag Fix).

Never Upgrade or Flash with a Lagfix in place you will Brick your Phone.

No need to worry about root that will be removed with the new Rom.

Be aware Z4root and OCLF wont work with 2.2.1. You can root using Odin.

We can help you with that once you are up and running with 2.2.1

Follow my instructions posted further up this thread,

Re: 2.2.1

Hi tsd,

Thanks so much for your advice.  I'm assuming that the 'undo OneClickLagFix' option in the app will also remove the EXT2 Tools as there doesn't seem to be an option available for that..unless it highlights up after undoing OCLF??

Also thanks for the tip about this not working in 2.2.1.

Cheers.

JDK.

Re: 2.2.1

@JDK

I't's a long time since I used OCLF but I think your right. Just double check everything has been reversed. I guess if the EXT2 option turns to green then it's ready to be applied, so you have undone it.

Hi dill, there is not really any need to apply a lag fix to 2.2.1 however if you install darky's custom rom it has the voodoo lag fix applied but this is easily disabled within the rom itself!

With regards to the z4root lagfix, The z4root app has an option to disable the lag fix so thei MUST be applied before any flashing takes place.

Thats because Kies is pants my friend. Odin is the tool you want and with that tool you can flash whatever you like with it as you dictate what firmware you want not Kies :smileywink:

Re: 2.2.1

@JDK1556 , you will have to read up fully on using odin, and accept that using it is at your own risk. There is plenty info out there. By the way when you tried kies did you have the latest version of kies? That might be why it said nothing available.

Re: 2.2.1

@jdk156take a look on the 2.2.1 fobbed off thread, there is alot on there and we have guided a couple of chapps on updating the  firmware you can down load the Vodafone firmware if you still want to stay branded. If you have Vodafone firmware try again tomorow as T mobile customers got the same update at the same time so samsung might be clogged.

but if you can tell us what firmware kies says you have on. The reason why i am asking is the last major update we had Vodafone users coming on from differnt countrys. But don't panic were onshore and we well we hope by now no what were doing ??????
