Hi Steve, getting rid of the Vodafone branding is fairly straight forward and easy. There are plenty of guides on here on how to do so however like I say to everyone, the minute you remove your Vodafone branding your warranty with them is void but on the other hand you still have the Samsung warranty!
Wee update on my phone, I have now unlocked my sim card and tested it on an O2 sim card and it works a treat. Just search the market ![]()

I'm sure that Vodafone will be quick to release the Gingerloaf firmware seeing as their 2.2.1 rom isn't quite perfect and they will want to keep their customers happy so if you can hang off a few more weeks then I'm sure Vf will get things right. If you still wish to go ahead with Odin then please read up on guides carefully and then once your confident within yourself then by all means give it a go. There are a few of us in here that can offer tech help should you need it.

Go to the main message board, look for my name, click on it, the next page that pops up should have on the top(ish) right a send pm option, click on this then you will get the message box, click on the inbox and it should be there.

FC's? They usually happen if a factory wipe is not done, did you do the factory wipe?

Yeah, best bet is to do that, and for double safety when you flash next time do a factory wipe before you do the flash, then right after you flash to make everything as clean as a whistle.
I would do it now if I were you, its a pain if you have all your stuff back on but no factory wipe practically guarantees problems down the line.![]()

@LUCIALIA
Glad to see you managed to get 2.2.1 onto your phone. ![]()
The Guys are absolutely correct about Factory resetting before and after an update.
You may want to keep this check list for future reference:
Follow this procedure for a trouble free upgrade:
Back up all your Media
Make a written note of your apps
Format your internal and external SD Card
Perform a Factory reset and log into Google account
Now connect to Kies
Upgrade to 2.2.1
Perform a Factory Reset
Format the SD card/s again
Log into Google account
Fresh install of apps from Market
This will give you an absolutely trouble free installation.

re: making a written note of your apps ...
market.android.com keeps a list of all your downloaded apps (under my market account). Both the installed and deleted though.

Hi first post here.So be gentle please as ive totally confused myself. When i first flashed my phone to froyo using kies way back i couldnt use the storm 8 app world war. So i flashed it back to Eclair using Odin.
I noticed the Gingerbread update was due so i wanted to try rebrand it and flashed it to 2.2 using this method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=8
I would like to be able to update it to 2.2.1 through Kies. when i connect it says current firmware version PDA:JP7 Phone JPP CSC JP7 (VOD) there is no current update for this phone.
Im tring to read through the threads but im confusing myself more and more.
Could somebody point me in the right direction on how to fix this please.
thanks
keith

Keith, thank you for that info - first of all are you running the latest kies, second - we have lately found out that vodafone made a hash of the 2.2.1 update, couple of things have gone wrong so maybe they have pulled that update until a fix can be made. We still are none the wiser regarding the gingerbread thing, its a waiting game.
But as you have used odin with no problem you can always use that method to get the 2.2.1 - your phone will be de-branded and you will most likely get the gingerbread update from kies well before the voda branded folks.

Hi thanks for the reply. Yes Kies updated itself last night. Im happy with the rom as it is because world war is working now for some reason. And i would rather keep it branded I was just worried that when Gingerbread was released i wouldnt be able to get it through kies. But if like you say its been pulled then that would explain it.

Yeah, that was my first thought when I read your post, I am sure someone will confirm. By the way, if you are non-branded you always get the kies update first, and it is a samsung tool not a voda one so no need to worry on that score![]()

I wouldn't worry about it, happens a lot and there has been a lot of stuff written about battery figs. If your power slips away like crazy then there is cause for concern, but if that is not happening just keep an eye on your battery usage.
