Can`t send or receive mms pictures!

I`ve had family try to send me photos by mms, but everytime it asks to download them, i do and says "Cannot retrieve, try again later" has done this for a solid week. Tried using some of the ideas on here, added a Access point to see if that worked for MMS. Still nothing, any ideas??

Re: Can`t send or receive mms pictures!

One of the team will be along shortly...

They will be able to check that MMS has been provisioned on your account properly.

The team are small and very busy so it may be a day before you see a reply.

Re: Can`t send or receive mms pictures!

Hi. Can anybody help me as I have this problem also!

I have a Samsung Galaxy S and when people send me pictures via SMS text all it says is "downloading". I know its not the fault of the person sending it becuase they manage to successfully send the same picture to other people.

Someone at work has suggested it may be a problem with my Vodafone account.

Thanks

Re: Can`t send or receive mms pictures!

Hi stoole

Thanks for your post. Firstly we'll need to check that you have the correct internet and MMS settings for your phone. These can be sent to you directly by just sending a free text to 40127 using the word WEB

If you've had the settings sent to your phone and you still can't send and receive MMS then it may be down to the profile of your account, in which case we'll require access. I've sent a private message with details of how to contact us directly.

You can find your PM inbox here. If you can't access this link, please ensure that the box next to "Turn on private messages" is ticked on this page, and let us know if you need any further assistance.

Thanks

Simon

Re: Can`t send or receive mms pictures!

This may be an old thread (can't see the date anywhere) but my phone is doing the exact same thing. I've recently broke my contract phone (woops) and used a spare vodafone one with the contract sim. Although now I cannot send or receive picture messages!

Cheers

Re: Can`t send or receive mms pictures!

Sorry, but this problem is happening again on my Galaxy S. People send me picture messages and all it says is "Downloading".

Before anyone asks - WiFi is NOT turned on but my 3G data is turned on. Tried turning it on and off too.

Can somebody help me again please?

Thanks.

Re: Can`t send or receive mms pictures!

Hi Stoole,

It is strange to see that it has stopped working again; can I ask if you have made any changes to the settings?

If you can give the suggestion that previously fixed the issue a go and let me know if you are still experiencing any issues so I can chase this up for you.

Re: Can`t send or receive mms pictures!

Hi James,

I've not knowingly changed any settings and I've been through every setting on my phone to try and work out what might have changed. I cant find anything.

I 've revisited the email someone sent me the last time this happened and I'm afraid that hasn't fixed it either.

Thanks.

Re: Can`t send or receive mms pictures!

Hi stoole,

I must admit that this is a bit of a strange one as there shouldn’t be any reason for this to stop working unless something has changed.

Are you able to confirm if your SIM still works fine for MMS in a different phone?

This will help us identify if the issue is with the phone or the account.

My gut feeling with this one is that it is something to do with the handset rather than the account.

If possible please can you back everything up from your phone and perform a factory reset, once done please double check that the network APN settings are correct by using the following guides;

How to configure your device for WAP

1.Touch the Menu key

2.Touch Settings

Re: Can`t send or receive mms pictures!

James. I'm afraid I dont have another Vodafone phone to try my SIM in. However , I've gone through your setting above and the proxys and ports were not set. I've set them now but there is NO CIRCLE next to Contract MMS to turn green.

Re: Can`t send or receive mms pictures!

I've fixed it !! I found the solution on a Virgin Media forum. Someone had the exact same issue on there. The solution was to go into SETTINGS--> ACCOUNTS and SYNC --> Untick Background Data and then re-tick Background Data. All was fine after that! Puzzling though.

Re: Can`t send or receive mms pictures!

I'm just wondering if this is a network issue.   I think you said that 3G was showing?  Does it change to H or H+, which it will if data is being transmitted or received?  If you're on the edge of a 3G area, it can be tricky and may be falling back to GPRS (which will just show G).  MMS only works over 3G or wifi.

Can you receive MMS on wifi?  That would at least test the settings.  If that works, then can you try a different location, if you haven't already.

Re: Can`t send or receive mms pictures!

Hi. Yes, I normally get H or H+ on my 3G connection.

I've never received any SMS picture messages via WiFi - in fact I've always been told that 3G is the only way to receive SMS picture messages. Is that not true?

Thanks for looking.

Re: Can`t send or receive mms pictures!

hi stoole,

mms will not work over wifi.....can you send a message to yourself?

if you cant even send one to yourself then mms probably needs provisioning on your account. cs or a store can do this for you :smileywink:
