CoPilot

So as to not contaminate the csutom rom thread any further on this, I will post here.

I should be getting copilot v8 by monday next week - is it best to stick it on the external sd card or is the internal (8gb) ok, assuming I have space for the 400mb!!!! I guess on the external card it will have less chance of getting wiped if I get carried away during future flashing:smileyvery-happy:

Still need to know the most suitable car holder that will work with my casemate barely there case. When I have these setup I will test out the gps before deciding on whether a little copilot gps receiver is needed.

Any comments ndj - I understand this is your bag?!

Re: CoPilot

I have mine on the external SD. Like you I have gone mad in the past Flashing and data wiping,if it's on the external it isn't touched and all your settings are still there.

Re: CoPilot

I just have mine on the internal card. What to do is save your checkout details i.e google checkout number just in case you need to reinstall it again. I back everything up with Titanium so restoring it with my settings just takes a few minutes

Re: CoPilot

In possession of copilot v8 - looks the biz! Display looks soooo much better than my old Tomtom.

See if it picks up the gps ok on the way home after work.

[ Edited ]

Hi,

Having read the discussion about GPS 'mice', or receivers as I prefer to call them, in the 'Custom ROM's' thread, I picked one up off EBay, which although not advertised as such, was actually shipped to me directly by ALK... the CoPilot people!.

And a very cute little thing it is too... for just £7.49!  :smileyhappy:

Re: CoPilot

What app are we using to connect the external gps receiver? I have just installed gps provider from the market and it connects the receiver ok but the screen is just blank when you are in copilot.

Bought a VF keychain one by the way - £12.99 brand new boxed, which I thought was a bargain as it comes with USB lead, car charger and mains charger.

Re: CoPilot

Ok, just installed the free/trial version of gps mouse and it seems to work fine. Will test some more before buying the full version.

Re: CoPilot

Ndj, I don't have bluetooth receiver options in settings on copilot!! It works ok but I have to use bluetooth gps mouse app to tell the phone to default all use to external gps receiver. Have you not done this-that sounds odd that your copilot is different to mine!!

Re: CoPilot

Need a bit of help here-I have uninstalled the gps mouse app, unpaired the VF gps receiver and turned it off and made sure internal gps is off. When I fire up either copilot or google maps the gps notification icon is coming on and has a accurate signal!!!! In battery usage copilot is showing as using gps. When I start copilot up it says no gps found and I can click cancel but the gps notification is still there in the background. Its ad if gps is stuck on in the phone but not showing as if it is in settings. HELP!!!!!"

Re: CoPilot

Ok fixed the problem. Bluetooth gps mouse app was messing up the phones internal gps-kept having to reboot to turn the internal gps off. Downloaded bluetooth gps app instead and it works fine. Also don't have to pay to get more than 10 mins signal. Guess its all a learning curve. Still not sure about those settings you refer to ndj. My version is 8.2.368

Re: CoPilot

mine just works i have checked with mine and it opens a diferent menu up when my mouse is paired but goes to the phones gps when not connected.

In your Bluetooth settings does is say Bluetooth gps connected, or does it just say bluetooth reciver connected my old tomtom Bluetooth reciver will not work this is why i got the new one.

somthing does not sound right here

Ado28 also uses one of theses as well

he might be able to shed some more light on this

I have found there support section http://www.alk.eu.com/alk/contact_us.asp they also sell external gps as well

Re: CoPilot

Just remembered when your bluetooth gps is connected and paired a option comes on in Settings and location and security and you need to tick the Use Bluetooth Gps. when its not connected that option goes.

When we had 2.1 we had to use a app but they sorted it on 2.2 froyo now i hope that has not been removed on gingerbread if its not ticked Copilot uses the phones gps. when you tick it then copilot puts a bluetooth button on thats the one for setting up copilot

Re: CoPilot

Hi ndj. In bluetooth settings on the phone it says paired but not connected. There is no option in location and security and even using the bluetooth gps app it doesn't say in the bluetooth settings that the receiver is connected (however it does work in copilot). The phone knows the receiver is paired but won't give me an option to connect it when I press and hold the screen. Main problem as far as the phone is concerned then is that it doesn't think that the receiver is connected.

It's as if whatever was changed on the roms to recognise external gps receivers is not there or functioning in my Darkys 10.1 EE.

Any more help?? I know I have a way round it with the app and it's not a pain to have to start the app up but then it is just another app running in the background using the battery.

Re: CoPilot

been a bit since i used this now follow me on this when 2.2 came out there was a feature were you could use a External GPS

2.2.1 they took it off  i have just powered mine up a i use the phones gps all the time now after i had to charge it  i now have the same problem grrrr then i found it it was moke locations

I have just tried http://uk.androlib.com/android.application.googoo-android-btgps-AtDE.aspx which i think is the same app as you have it carn't be that long since i used this

@ado28 how do you set you external mouse up

Re: CoPilot

@ndj you have had me thinking all day that it is me and my phone going mad:smileyvery-happy:

I don't mind using the bluetooth gps app if that is what we have to do (and I tried a couple of others that either froze the phone or made the internal gps stay on even when turned off).

Just seems strange when you press down on the Voda gps (when it says paired but not connected) and it only gives you the option to unpair and not to connect. If you ask me this is simple flaw in the rom - why do you need a tiny app from the market to do something that the rom itself should do.

@ado - put us out of our confusion, what's you's working like??

Re: CoPilot

on 2.2 it did work but i have updated my phone and copilot since i last used the mouse the app does work only on copilot tho but it does seem to be a rom thing but i don't need to use it now as my new car has not got a coated window so my phone works fine i must admit tho the mouse does lock very fast i'm going to try the wifes HTC the way i did before on 2.2 see if it works
