Re: Custom Roms

Sean, battery used to be heavy on earlier CM7 roms but for a while now I have been more than satisfied with the battery performance, I never seem to have a problem now.

I have switched off the automatic account sync and only sync whenever I want to - I found that most of the notifications that were coming through were to do with this forum, and as trying to reply to posts from the browser on the phone is absolute pants, I stopped it.

Mind you if we had a forum app.................Tom, are you watching?, its been 4 weeks since I mentioned the dreaded forum app, and 4 months since I first asked about it.......is there any news?

Re: Custom Roms

Hi Jim, I only find that my battery really drains when 3G is enabled. When I'm running 2G the battery is fine :smileyindifferent:

Re: Custom Roms

2G as well for me Sean, 3G in my area is rubbish - VF take note please - and to be honest whenever I am in a good 3G area I never remember to flick it on!

Ah well, hoping for a move soon so perhaps 3G will be available then.

Re: Custom Roms

Most people seem to agree!! Apparently Ficeto's base JVP is lightening fast so 10.2 should be great.

10.1 Extreme was released on stable only days after Resurrection (I think) so watch this space........or the space on Darkyrom anyway:smileyvery-happy:

Some people seem to have got rid of the Android OS battery drain problem with the JVP base. It's not something that I (thankfully) have a problem with.

Re: Custom Roms

imo darky's is very good, I was on his versions religiously for about 6 months ... that was until I tried cm7, which is something on another level really, with the added bonus of having hardly any samsung stuff on it ... they still use the modem code as far as I know.

It's a bit more jumping through hoops, and better to read the xda forum on peoples experiences with the daily (nightly) updates.

There's an army of developers behind cm7, but it's still better to see others test the updates first, as problems can occur.

Re: Custom Roms

Hi,

Has anyone taken the plunge with the latest Darky Beta and installed

DarkCore 2.7.3_JVP

CWM3 Base ROM v4

Reading good things about the JVP and getting itchy flash-fingers... !

Currently on Darkys JVH 10.1 with Dark Core 2.6 kernel

Re: Custom Roms

I HAVE SERIOUSLY MESSED UP

after work yesterday, I started messing around with the phone, and now I can't figure out how to put one of my backed up darky roms back on

After messing for hours I have completely lost where I am. I remember at some point last night I decided to try out gingerbread,I followed Soups instructions so the phone was completeley wiped and gingerbread installed, didn't want that so Flasdhed CM7 again (excellent how to by the way Jim on resource board) then decided after all I wanted my Blood red themed Darky 10.1 back on

(OK hands up this was all done whilst at home on my own after work with a fridge full of beer, now I have empty fridge and phone I dont like)

I flashed Darky following Ado's video on you tube, once on that I backed up the rom, placed my saved rom in the CWM restore folder then tried to restore it using rom manager. It runs through the restore procedure but on reboot just stays on the Galaxy S screen.

Just off to work now with an old omnia on me and depressed. PLEASE HELP

Re: Custom Roms

@shig, did you try a restore from CWM itself? Rom Manager app has been updating like crazy lately, maybe there is something up with it, the CWM restore option I think would be a bit safer.

Re: Custom Roms

Hi Jim

tried that friend, just reboots onto GALAXY S screen then nothing. Totally lost now. Wanted one of my fully set up roms back on but it's looking like I am going to have to start from scratch.

Not entirely sure where to begin now I did that much last night. That will teach me not to drink and flash!!!!!

Re: Custom Roms

On a couple of threads today I have read about Rom Manager/CWM acting a bit funny at the moment. Perhaps CWM did not fully back up your Darky rom. I think you will have to start again unfortunately.

Re: Custom Roms

OK

this is really wierd, just restored the Darky rom I put on last night following ado's vid, came back on no problem. I have then tried to restore some of my backed up roms, every one I try just freezes on the Galaxy S screen

Think I need to give the phone a break, sure I saw steam coming from the volume up and power buttons:smileysurprised:

Re: Custom Roms

Hmm, what kind of backups are you trying? I mean froyo or gb? I was just thinking that if you are presently on gb and you try a froyo backup, that might cause your bootloop, and vice versa. Unsure if that is what can happen, but often with the bootloader stuff you hear about bootloops.

Re: Custom Roms

I honestly can't remember what I have done or tried, I don't know if the backups are froyo or GB

Completely lost I am going to have to set up again from the begining
