I know it's a bit of a pain, but in circumstances like this it is often the best thing to do!

At least you are then starting with a 'clean sheet' as it were... and it will give you a chance not to re-install some of those apps which you never use anyway! :smileywink:

Re: Custom Roms

SUCCESS

I just flashed the darky rom I wanted to set back up,tried one last time to restore my backup before I set it up again and it worked.

Right back where I want to be...FOR NOW

Thanks for the help guys.

Jim I flashed cm7 yesterday nightlies 24 and 30 couldn't get the radio working on any of them. To be honest I found CM7 a bit heavy going after being on Darky for a while now. No doubt in the future I will give CM7 another go,I do remember really liking it,but the lack of FM Radiostopped me using it.

Re: Custom Roms

Shig, to put your mind at ease, its been all over the CM7 xda thread today that something could be up with the CWM backups, lots of problems have been reported, it would now seem that CWM version 4.0.0.5 is ok, I have just used it for backup and restore, if you were using 4.0.0.3 there could have been a problem.

Re: Custom Roms

Lol at soup Been there seen it Flashed it see the 2.3.4 thread lol

Darkys is getting stick again from the Non Devs on XDA, Mainly cos they got the leaked rom but did not tell any one, they had there reasons for that but they new some one else would leak it. But Darkeys is holding back, Yes its better and even more bugless but they said that they think another maybe official rom is due out. They said most of the fixes are apk fixes so they might pull the apks from JVQ so people on Darkys version can just install over the top.

I have found some tweaks in the web brouser but there is nothing major

there is a Deodoxed rooted verson

http://www.multiupload.com/FT180HBCIH

But the light sensor bug is still on this i have not tried this but it has been tried on xda ( At your own risk boys)

Re: Custom Roms

Darky's thread on xda has gone a bit quiet, it wasn't on the first page for a while.
I like to check that thread every once in a while, but it was hard to find earlier this morning.

Re: Custom Roms

I have been following Faryaab's - F1 Galaxy S2 V6 Rom.

This is for the Galaxy S I9000 and gives the look and feel of the S2. It's starting to look really nice, so I think come the weekend I may well have a dabble... :smileywink:

Re: Custom Roms

Chlorine - BLOAT REMOVER - CWM Update.zip

Just found this from sargorn on XDA HERE

You choose what apk's you want to remove from your newly installed Custom Rom. Then generate the update.zip, copy to SDcard and apply.

One thread on the latest JVQ ROM was closed by the Mods there as they got fed up with everyone slagging off Darky!

Perhaps it was a bit unfortunate though that his requests for donations was larger than most of his posts on there! :smileywink:

Re: Custom Roms

Wouldn't be me slagging him off, he and his small team make good roms. After 6 months I fancied a change, which is the only real reason I am not still using them.
I don't know the full story about all of this, was it because of another unofficial leak in JVQ ?

I read a tweet from his kernel dev ficeto (I still follow darky & him on twitter).
"a leak from Samsung that we got was leaked from us by a trusted person, thus putting our leak guy in danger. Really immature :smileywink:"

sounds complex ...

I try to keep up with darkyworld, but it's not easy with the whirlwind that is CM7

Re: Custom Roms

Is anyone here still on Darky's 10.1 extream edition....??

Yday I dare to install custom rom on my device.. and flashed it successfully.. in first attempt without bricking phone.. :smileyhappy:

I must say.. its worth giving a try to custom roms.. I might try CM7/MIUI..

Okie.. I need to understand few things about it..

Have installed darkey's configrator and can see different options like Kernal. Modem .. Extra fonts. Circular battery.. 3rd party apps and so on.. but not sure how to configure/change it after flashing rom.

Is there any app in Darkey's rom where I can get different theams..

How do I apply vodoo sound? What exactly it does??

Thanks.

Re: Custom Roms

Were Is Ado28 when you need him lol

Right the configrator does work but you need to use this between the Resurecton Version and then the full

Or do a factory wipe if your on the full version and it should change over the settings. As for the themes on Darkeys website there is a section on this i have used Three and the tron one is Very Impressive, But they tell you how to put them on.

Voodoo sound is well ok Gives you more settings on the sound chip but nothing to right home about.

Now on about Voodoo if your going to another custom rom make sure you turn off the Voodoo lag fix

The only other Rom i would surgest is CM7 Every one that has put MIUI on soon went to CM7

I was on Darkys but i'm on 2.3.4 stock wich i'm testing but i will be going back to the dark side at some point

Doing factory reset is a bit pain as you have to setup it all again :smileyhappy:

Thanks for your help

Any noob guide to flash CM7..

Okie one more stupid question...

How do i check whether lagfix is applied or not and How do I enable and disable it?

Re: Custom Roms

Yes reseting is a pain but your supposed to use the darkys app at the begining, there is a section on here and links on how to flash cm7 now cm7 is a new rom and not a Galaxy S rom so there will be a diferance compared to others. I started on the custom rom route but i have stopped, i do like Darkys as you can change the look which on the whole that is whymost flash now, it was before for speed but stoke roms are catching up, there is a group that race to be the first to try who can flash what. It does look like you have done your home work on this, Jim on here is the cm7 wizz but i don't think you will have any problems.....

Re: Custom Roms

This is quite a good guide for flashing CM7

http://sgscm7nightlies.pbworks.com/w/page/41503647/Install+CyanogenMod-7+from+scratch

possibly it's a bit high level, as it assumes the installer id familiar with installing using odin (but there are other guides to help people through that bit.

Re: Custom Roms

And as an alternative you could use the Froyo file from Paul's link above, install Rom Manager, in RM press Flash ClockworkMod Recovery, it will ask your phone type, select Galaxy S MTD, it will ask which CWM version, select CWM3, then scroll down to Download Rom. If you have the free version you will get the option to download CM7 RC1 only, which is fine, if you have the paid for RM you will get that option but also the nighlies.

Choose whichever you want, follow the screen instructions.

Before doing any of this make a nandroid backup of your current rom, should anything go wrong!, also be double safe by backing up your stuff with titanium backup, back up your contacts and messages as well

Going to CM7 means you would be getting rid of all samsung stuff inside your phone, if there are any samsung specific applications that you use, they will not work on CM7.

Battery consumption used to be rubbish on CM7 but it is not bad at all now. You should not expect all the "bells and whistles" stuff that you get on a Darky rom for example, but there are plenty of themes to add if you wish.

Re: Custom Roms

I'm on the "testing modems" trail on CM7 for my nightly #56 (stock kern el)

testing this while at work, so not on wifi. This is a good test imo, as the better the modem, the less battery drain working overtime on getting a decent signal, etc. the battery level was 90% before each test of about 1 hour, low usage, only checking stuff a couple of times.

I have tried 4 different modems, I think I have found a winner of these

I tried ...

JP5 ... lost about 7% in an hour

JVQ ditto

JVO ... lost 10% in an hour

JVK ... 3% an hour (5% in 100 minutes)

Think I will stay on this for a while

Re: Custom Roms

Nice one Paul - I had JVK sitting in my list of modems on the SD, can't remember having used it before though, so have just put it on.....when did CWM turn blue? Lately I have been using Rom Manager for flashing and had not done the 3BR for a while.... and now its blue...nice.
