Re: Custom Roms

Well, if you want one loaded up with stuff there is the Darky rom (200+ MB), or you could go for the slimmer one, Insanity, (88MB) and then just add whatever you want.

The only advantages over stock that I can see is the capability to use ClockworkMod Recovery, which I think is great, and the opportunity to put different themes on, which is quite fun to do, changing how it looks - I'm just wondering when I will get fed up of doing that.

Custom roms I am finding now are fine, but not really better than 2.2.1 in terms of performance, having flashed back a couple of times to see, but then again I find that I end up on a cusom.

Patiently waiting for the CyanogenMod team to do their stuff - seems like they are getting closer and closer.

lol I'm the same Jim, I have flashed back and forward. This week I'm back on stock 2.2.1. I just back up my rom then have a wee flash to myself and if I don't like it I just restore it back to what it was before and bingo, everythings back to normal :smileyhappy:

Re: Custom Roms

Have just installed Darky's 9.2 ROM and it doesn't feel as snappy as JPY. Will continue to test...

Re: Custom Roms

yeah I have darky's 9.2 on my phone (no surprise there). It managed to do the wipe install when I didn't want it to.

I have the darky app, so I can pick the options on the install (voodoo, speedmod, or no install of the kernel), also a choice of 2, or no change of modems.

The wipe didn't cause me any problems, restored my backups.

There is another "resurrection" version, for odin installs, instead of the usual clockworkmod one. Intended, in their words ...

This Odin package is aimed at users that are on stock or other ROMs and want to switch painlessly to Darky, or have some current problems with their installation

I haven't tried that, as I have no problems with my install.

I have also installed the latest speedmod test kernel, K12U-T4, again no problems.

Generally for me, the phone is less laggy, and is working well. Gps is a revelation, as I have had problems in the past (I think it’s the kernel).

Re: Custom Roms

Hi Paul, I never experienced any lag what so ever on JPY however darky's latest version just seems a lot slower than JPY. I may be on another ROM by the morning lol

Re: Custom Roms

I think it could be down to several factors here each phone configuration affects the overall picture imo

I have speedmod with recommended tweaks, ext4 filesystems for data, cashe, db_data & system, 16 gb internal sd, 16 gb external sd.

I know the quadrant benchmark is generally disregarded, but I haven't managed over 1200 on my phone since I have been on darky's (November).

I can always tell when I have a lag (rare these days). If I am using the keyboard it will delay about 2 seconds.

For the record, on darky 9.2 I have

PDA      I9000XWJS3

Modem  I9000XXJPY

CSC      I9000XXJP9

and approx 120 apps

Re: Custom Roms

Your settings are the same as mine. I have just installed the blue skylite theme and it's a lot better looking now lol

Re: Custom Roms

I've not really got into themes on my phone, I prefer my zeam launcher with 25 icons on the home screens + 7 icons across the dock line.

Each to his own :smileyhappy:

You can still use your zeam launcher with this theme

Re: Custom Roms

Well I have been on darky's latest ROM (9.2) now for a day and i must admit it's a good ROM. Initially I thought it was a bit slow compared to JPY however it now seems to have stabilised itself out. I have the lite blue skyline theme over the top of darkys rom and the phone looks and feels nice.

Re: Custom Roms

I've been on darky's 9.2 since Friday evening (thanks to virginmedia broadband being unavailable from 20:00 Thursday to 12:00 Friday).

I have had more battery drain on this than usual,100%-80% between 17:00 and 20:00 light usage (Yes I do calibrate my batteries).

So I flashed the good old BUJP5 modem as suggested by many on XDA (worldwide). between 20:00 and 23:00 it fell from 79% to 75% with similar usage ... wow.

Apart from that, it's running well, much quicker than stock for me.

Thats really interesting Paul re the battery drain. I can't say I have had any problems with it so far. do you have a link for the modem files so I can download it just in case?

Re: Custom Roms

No problem... sorry it's on multiupload.com, so there's a short delay if you don't have an account.
here's the XDA forum reply that I found it on (from an icelandic user, SAEVARM3).

This modem here is the best for UK on Vodafone network

Download: _
http://www.multiupload.com/MPHBIX83EY

BUJP5 Modem - COMPATIBLE COUNTRIES/REGIONS = France(SRF Network), United Kingdom(Vodafone UK Network), (U.S. - AT&T), Vodafone Global

-Idle drain (Average of 7 hrs, 1% - 2%) depending on apps, update interval etc.
-Might not be good for Australia (Vodafone), Slovenia (SiMobil)
-Telenor, Hungary Users may lose brand, signal, data
-Does not seems to drain battery and data connection seems to be stable
-Fast GPS Lock
-Good Call quality Incoming and Outgoing (Loud and Clear)
-Possible that JP5 should be the best for all users on Vodafone Network (Global)
-Excellent Battery Life (Idle & Usage)
-Able to receive and make calls when no bars are shown (at which point the signal bars jump to one or two)
