@N-dj

Vampfy has dabbled in creating splash screens. Perhaps he can offer you some tips?

Re: Custom Roms

Had serious battery drain earlier today with android os at over 40%. Only thing I had done different was playing with copilot for about 20 minutes with gps on and then about 10 minutes of EDGE data. Ensured gps off removed battery and then fully charged and now back to normal. Lost 3% in 8 hours!!! Anyone with Android os battery drain make sure you have gps off. Just ordered a VF gps receiver from ebay so that should help.

Re: Custom Roms

Cheers TSD and ndj. I think the phone is fine as it is, just the copilot and gps that's a killer. I guess Totom dies quick when not connected to 12v so the Sammy is only going to be worse. If I ever have android os problems with nothing running though I will try the tricky fix. Anyone else think wifi signal strength isn't as good on 10.1ee as it wad on, say jpy? Possibly try a different modem?

Re: Custom Roms

Finally temporarily solved my other halfs os drain, wiped the phone formatted sd cards and did battery calibration, its lasted over a day.  Mine has been fine too lasted 26hrs with using sat nav, few games checked facebook and emails about 3 voice calls and 10 0r so texts so i am happy with that.  However the os drain came back overnight used 80% while idle so i just rebooted and it seems ok.

Its seems there is no set pattern to the os drain it just pops up whenever it feels like it.  My other half is gradually introducing apps and games so i will let you know if anything in particular seems to trigger it.

Thank you guys again for all your help, TSD, VT and Ado :smileyhappy:

Re: Custom Roms

On Gingerbread the modem has changed!!!

manly to clear the click noice we got on the audio when the wifi was on.

but they have also turned the power down, Post this on Darkys site i have just flashed 9.5 on three phones to day i have even emailed them asking what intro screen they want, there happy as  larry with the 9.5.

I think darkys needs to iron out some more of the bugs but i think its a samsung problem

I use Wifi Analzer and the difference is shocking on Gingerbread based roms in front room it's -50 dbm on 2.2.1 based roms it -20 dbm (stronger) just another problem to add to the Gingerbread list

Re: Custom Roms

At least this is common-should therefore get us a fix sometime! I am happy enough with the battery and don't want to mess about going back to a 2.2.1 rom so will put up for the time being. Someone pm me though if they find something out to improve the wifi lol. Totally off subject but got my car holder yesterday-Nokia cr115 and it fits like a snug glove with the barely there case. Feels solid, small and quality. There is a youtube video of the bracket falling off if you turn it into landscape but a quick dab of nomorenails fixes that and!"akes it perfect. A seller on amazon has them for a few pence over £5 brand new!!! Bargain. Also got a brand ne VF gps receiver on ebay from amobiles for £13!"!

Re: Custom Roms

Just flashed Dark Core 2.6 using SGS Kernel Flasher and the memory improvement is noticable - has dropped about 20Mb. Very good.

Re: Custom Roms

Quick question...

I thought I'd asked this before but can't seem to find any answers or even the post!!! that must have been a late night.

Is it possible to flash new kernals on to any rom? I'm still on CM7 at the moment and just wondered if they were all compatible or not?

Ta.

Re: Custom Roms

Hi Jim, how is your battery life on CM7? I'm running #19 and lost 48% overnight. Currently downloading #21 :smileyvery-happy:

Re: Custom Roms

I can't speak for jim, but I only lost 2% between 00:00 and 07:00

mind you, that's with data and wifi off, and airplane mode on.

if that's a new flash (I'm sure it will be) the battery will calibrate itself over a few days as usual.

according to my battery stats, usage should be 30 hours this time, (full charge 08:00 yesterday) but that's with my overnight setting. I always put it on charge in the car (2 x 30 minutes a weekday) when gps and bluetooth are on, about 10% battery charge is added at this time.

Looked on the cm7 xda, general feeling there to extend battery life is ...

wifi sleep policy = never

turn off all automatic functions in any app killers and/or schedulers

wipe the cache and dalvik after the flash

Re: Custom Roms

well as battery drain goes darkys 9.5 left on stanby from 0700 am to 0700 pm 4% drain, Darkys 10.1 was 16%  ( not bad ),

2.2.1 JPY 6% this is afteer 2 days charge to settle the battery down

If you want a comparison

Re: Custom Roms

Just flashed #21 now, battery life on new roms are heavy but to loose half the battery overnight isn't right. All that was left on was 3G. Anyway i'm liking the look and feel of CM7 so will stick with it further. The only thing I don't like is the text message layout, I think its rank

Re: Custom Roms

I agree, 48% is really bad for overnight. Maybe use something like cpu spy to see the states the phone is in. Deep sleep should be the majority of this.
I can quite easily lose 48% over the working day, but I do rely on the phone then to check stuff, and don't attach to my work wifi, so the phone uses it's 2g/3g more.
