It's a facebook issue, as detailed in the attached thread (from about 4 or 5 from the bottom)

Basically Facebook isn't using the Google Contact API so it won't sync contacts...3rd party OEMs have built in their own ways of doing so, or you can use HaxSync from the Market (very good IMO)
It's to do with the Facebook privacy changes and Google not agreeing to them (or something). See here:

OK, slightly different question regarding Facebook.
Just got my S3 in blue.
each time o go onto FB it automatically goes to FB mobile. My S2 went to normal FB.
How can I get eh S3 to stop accessing Mobile versions and just go onto the internet properly.
its driving me mad.

Thanks for your post here. I’ve just got a couple of questions for you.
Are you using the application or just going to the website via your browser?
Can you go to:
Access Point Names
Then can you tell me what access point name is set up in there? If it’s ‘wap.vodafone.co.uk’ then can you try changing it to ‘Internet’, then change the username and password to ‘web’.
Can you give this a try and let me know how you get on?
