Wouldn't mind the info pm'd either soup. I think trying to to update to 2.3 from darkys v9.5 may be a bit tricky and I'm not in the mood for trickyness seeing as i'm working today and tomorrow and have the pleasures of playing with my new tv over the bank holiday weekend. So if you would be so kind pretty please with jellybeans and icecreams, Thankyou please.

I'm only interested in it because I am a bit concerned, I installed the leaked version of Gingerbread and although I am really happy with the way it runs I would still like to update to Gingerbread when it comes out.
Not sure how easy it would be whilst on this version.

The versions on Samfirmware.com usually have a multi CSC, i.e. XEU, NEE etc.
Not everybody wants to loose the VOD CSC, so this is why I am setting myself up for the Stock VOD Gingerbread to be able to see what if any difference there will be.
It's difficult to help when your on a different version to the person asking for help.
Will I stay there... you know me! ![]()

I may be being a bit thick here so forgive me if I am but I can't seem to find how to read pm's. I've searched the forum for where to find them but I'm still in the dark.

Right back to it, i have herd som disturbing news over the last week google has been having meetings with manufactures all to do with there UI's now i can only asume this is why we got the update pulled.
I don't have a problem with the UI i like touch wiz and how i can move the apps around to have games on one screen and apps on another but gingerbread you carn't it bunches them all up in order and you have to troll through to find them.
now the only way i could see a way round would be for samsung to put themes on like htc do, or separete launches which we can do now.
i also like the other stuff samsung does eg its music player and video player as the video plays loads of formats, if google do this it could be damaging for them but on the up side good for network phones as they will also have to keep there hands off, but this silance from all is worrying

Hi NDJ, I am not quite with you here, what do you mean that gb bunches everything up in order? Do you mean in the app drawer?

I'm with N-dj on this..!
I have just put VOD's 2.2.1 on, and waiting for GB. I think it's great how you can move the app drawer around. I have all the rubbish apps that you can't remove together and ordered the apps I like, in order of preference. Then you can move the app drawer pages around, just like you can with the Home screens.
I found the Gingerbread Launcher very restrictive, but I haven't seen a final release of gingerbread yet so the Launchers I have used may not be the finished article.
What ever happens I hope we don't loose Touch Wiz as an option. I think it is an under rated launcher.
I don't think it's a bad thing to have a base Android system, then customize it as you want. After all isn't that what we like about custom Roms!

I agree with VT, I hardly ever went into app drawer and just used homescreens as I pleased.
With the MIUI system that I use now, which is android 2.3.3 there is no app drawer in the MIUI system, but it seems like you can have infinite homescreens - just put 45 screens on just now and could have had more ( just testing to see how far it would go but got fed up!)

It was the app draw the option to move then around is kinda cool, yes the folder thing works i did that with my old iphone and never bothered messing around with that as i could move the appdraw around, this was one reason why i got the phone, my wifes the same as she has the tab and a htc and she allways says that yes there both android but there so different and both have there good points.
i think manufactures will have to give the gingerbread as a option samsung are used to this even my old omnia you could set it to windows or samsung lets hope samsung lead the way on this
But i still think is still a bit wroung of google for doing this as it's been said google is open is this the first sine of google not being as open

I don't understand the Google influence as they are not directly involved anymore. Google handed Android development over to AOSP, (Android Open Source Project), perhaps this is what is meant by "Google" got involved, it may well be AOSP demanding their OS no longer getting altered by manufacturers and ISP's. But isn't that the whole point of open source?
I know there was talk of Samsung locking their Bootloaders, again this contradicts the "open source" element of Android. Perhaps this is the argument! Whatever it is, I'm sure it is to do with the "openness" of Android!
