Re: Galaxy S- Froyo 2.2.1 leaked JPU ROM available!

Hi Jim,

1. Create a folder on your external sd card and give it a name i.e "back up efs"

2. Open Root Explorer

3. Scroll down to EFS and long press until the options appear then touch "copy"

4. Now copied scroll down to "sd card"

5. Touch SD Card

6. Scroll down to "external sd card"

7. Scroll down to the folder you created i.e. "back up efs"

8. Touch the folder "back up efs"

9. Now your in the folder touch "paste"

10. Done!

A copy of your efs folder will now be kept in here should you ever need it :smileyhappy:

Re: Galaxy S- Froyo 2.2.1 leaked JPU ROM available!

I too have been installing apps gradually on this ROM just to see how it goes. Last night I decided to install the DolphinHD browser. Was reading a web page on it before I went to bed. Left the page and browser open and this morning my battery level had fallen by 46%.
I know this because I have been checking my battery level every night before bed and then 1st thing in the morning.
Prior to last night my battery level was falling by about 3-4% overnight on this ROM

Looks like Dolphin HD is a major battery thief :smileysurprised:

Nice find Sean!

Update: I dunno who wrote this (some junior member) but I've just gone through this list of 'issues' and can't say I have experienced any of them.

As far as lag is concerned, I was going to wait a few more days, but I'll say it now...

I have not installed any lag fix and have experienced no lag at all.

Yes it is still RFS but they have done something to it. What? I don't know

But it certainly feels like a different ROM altogether from the 2.2 ROM's

GPS

Last night I gave a mate a lift into Edinburgh so after dropping him off I decided to try the GPS and Google navagation on this rom to go home. So these are my findings:

GPS lock - took a minute or 2 and I wasn't in a built up area but when locked on it was very accurate to within a few metres and that was without the aid of my GPS mouse. On nearing my home I decided to go against the route discription to see how long it took to realise i was off route. The navagation spotted this within about 10 seconds and re routed me.

Overall impressions of the GPS on this rom are very good and I would score it 8/10. I haven't tried it in a built up area and probably won't for a while as I'm not in town too often.

We may not need a lag fix anymore due to these changes Samsung made in this rom.

I'm still going to hold off installing this as I need a working phone and not a potentially buggy one with a beta rom.

Re: Galaxy S- Froyo 2.2.1 leaked JPU ROM available!

Hi Mat, you are indeed correct. Lots of people so far haven't applied a lag fix however I have as it was the first thing I done after rooting. I wouldn't say that this Rom is buggy and its superior than JPO and I'm sure VT will vouch for this too. So far ll I can do is praise this rom!

Re: Galaxy S- Froyo 2.2.1 leaked JPU ROM available!

I agree this is a better ROM than JP0, in fact, it's the best ROM I've had on the phone.

I noticed the 'keep awake while charging' under software development is no longer there, it's a feature I liked as I don't want the screenlock engaging while charging from my laptop.

It's up to you whether you want to update or not. Do you have a reason that you want to update? ie. is your phone giving you issues? or is it just curiosity?... Its up to you

YES definitaley make a back up of your efs.

It contains important information about your phone like IMEI, product code,

Not too sure whether you can copy this folder without rooting as its in the root directory and I've always been rooted.

I used root explorer. I believe there is still ryan's app in the market which should root your phone if you need to.

NOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Don't install OCLF if you're going to flash your phone.

Bods are you sure you know what you're doing? have you flashed with odin before??

Please don't flash anything with odin or root your phone unless you know exactly what you're doing and the implications of it.

If you still wish to proceed, z4root can be downloaded from here

Bods, hang off until you know what your doing. OCLF is not a rooting tool, follow VT's link to the root tool but again I would read up on rooting because if you don't root it properly you could turn your Galaxy into a paper weight.

Re: Galaxy S- Froyo 2.2.1 leaked JPU ROM available!

I second that, rooting isnt just something you should do as a matter of course, it will invalidate your warranty with VF, which personally I think is no big deal, but the big deal is that it invalidates your samsung warranty, a few weeks ago they put out a notice to their service centres to  not touch any rooted phone.

Do as ado28 says above, read thoroughly about it, then make your decision.

And keep in mind that we get the feeling that samsung are working on updates for this phone, it may be best to be patient and wait for the official stuff to come out.

Cheers

Jim

VT and myself have both bricked our phones roughly twice each in the last fortnight and we sort of have a clue when rooting and flashing :smileysurprised:
