Quick question ( I know I should know this as I've flashed a few times already but just wanted to double check) - Should I check repartition? should i check update bootloader? Do I need to enter something in the csc and pit file boxes or just simply flash the phone software?
Thanks again...

To be safe I think I would just tic re partition and install the pit file. I wouldn't bother checking boot uploader if you can already access your recovery via the 3 button method

Think I'm going to take the plunge tomorrow once my battery has fully recharged... I've started to notice quite a few force closes on my current F/W - JPM and the gps problem that has bugged others is now bugging me.

So much for me deciding to hang out for hopeful Gingerbread release for the Galaxy S and resisting the latest Vodafone leaked firmware. Instead I just decided to flash 2.2.1 This will do for just now and will report any bugs I may encounter.
Come on VT, now its your turn ![]()
Edit: forgot to add that the quadrant score is 1244 without any lag fixes applied

Would you guys reccommend Titanium back up over Astro? and if so, whats the difference?
Also, I've seen mentioned on XDA something about flashing this new 2.2.1 with a new modded kernel and voodoo 5, can anyone shed some light as to what it all is and wether its worth searching for to flash instead?

Please be patient,
Give us time to work things out as to what you need to do.
The ROM was only released a few hours ago
Don't rush in. Wait until there is more info.
I will post once everything is clear about flashing this ROM, rooting, etc.

LOL sorry....
It's just that yesterday I started thinking about flashing to the latest VF firmware just to see if it stopped the FC's I was getting and then all of a sudden this arrives like a sign!!!
I've downloaded the files now so will save them for tomorrow... Fingers crossed for less FC's, a gps fix and better battery life.
Thanks once again for all the help and advice

Has your product code changed to korea?
Did you backup your efs folder before flashing??Hi VT, My product code has remained the same which is good newshowever I bricked the phone
I tried to root it and after I pushed the root through the wifi couldn't connect and was looping itself between connecting/ disconnecting. I decided to do another factory reset and the phone couldn't get past the S logo. I managed to recover the phone by reflashing JPU again because I could still get in to download modeGonna now try another rooting method lol

Hi Suds,
Don't do any flashing and that goes for other guys who are unsure of the process until VT and I have sussed things out. I have already bricked my phone once and don't want you guys bricking your phones either. VT will no doubt make up a cracking guide as he is better explaining things than I am lol. Like VT has said the ROM was only released a few hours ago so it's best if we brick our phones first lol

Crikey what an experience that was. I too bricked my phone (twice) But I was very stupid both times.
To top it off I lost my home internet connection whilst all this happened.
Anyway all is sorted now.
moving on to the ROM...
WOW!
I'm really quite astonished! It appears that Samsung have finally put together some firmware which is decent. Maybe all that working with Google on the Nexus has paid off.
Its very quick has a few little features, some Bug fixes and battery life appears to be better.
We may not even need a lag fix with this one (although its still early days) I need to find out what they have done to the file system.
They've also managed to give us slightly more RAM with this ROM, something which in the past only the XDA boys managed to achieve with their custom ROMS.
Installed launcher pro twitter and facebook widgets before going to bed .
No other apps have been installed yet. So it was just these two, Gmail sync etc. running -The battery level barely moved.
Normally by the morning I would have lost circa 30% of battery life over night.
cheers

Guys I'm back now that we have a dedeicated sub-forum (I know, how childish). Looks like the partnership with Google to develop the Nexus S is reaping rewards already.
If you have froyo SGS paticularly with a lag-fix, I'll recommend holding fire as this is likely to be the first of several iterations until 2.2.1 is released, so I expect a flurry of ROMs.
Before froyo lots of things were broken hence the need for regular updates, casual users should be patient for now.
