Linux Users - How to Flash with Heimdall (Odin for Linux/Mac)

If like me, your main PC runs a Linux distribution such as Ubuntu, or if you are a MAC user, then Flashing roms means you have to have access to windows.

Well no more! There is a cross platform Flashing tool called Heimdall. It is a reverse engineared version of Odin.

Here is a Link to a great How -To guide, including the link to download Heimdall.

Remember: Flashing is at your own risk!

Re: Galaxy S- Resource Board - Make Your SGS Fly!

Seting up Ringtones/Alarms/Notificaton Sounds

On Your Internal SD

Make a New Folder Called Media then in media make a folder Called Audio

In Audio you need three folders like so it looks like below

\Media\Audio\Ringtones

\Media\Audio\Notifications

\Media\Audio\Alarms

Now put what ever you want in there and it will show on the Menu for which you want

You can also set a Txt Message tone in the settings oh the messages app, You can also do the same for emali messages and facebook so you can have a tone for each other wise it will use the default tone in the settings

I have put this in here cos it always gets me every time i update my phone

\Media\Audio\Alarms
\Media\Audio\Notifications

FLASHING CYANOGENMOD CM7

Install procedure for CM7

<NOTE, THIS ROM IS CLASSED AS UNSTABLE, AS ALWAYS FLASH AT OWN RISK>

Download latest rom from http://mirror.teamdouche.net/?device=galaxysmtd

Download latest Gapps from http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=Latest_Version#Google_Apps

You need to have the correct Froyo bootloader to cross over to CyanogenMod.

Easiest method to ensure this is to flash the EZbase Rom - This is by using EZodin.

EZbase instructions and downloads http://insanity.rollus.net/EZbase/EZbase-2.00.pdf

1) Load Rom and Gapps onto SD Card

2) Make nandroid backup of your current rom

3) Flash EZbase

with EZbase you have root and CWM Recovery inbuilt.

4)Power down

5) Enter CWM Recovery via 3 button method

6) Wipe data/factory reset in CWM Recovery

7) Wipe cache partition in CWM Recovery

8) Install the Rom from the internal SD Card using CWM Recovery

After the Rom has installed, power down, enter CWM Recovery again and flash Gapps from SD Card.

Reboot, then proceed with setting up your non-Samsung phone.

(Titanium Backup can be used to back up your apps from your previous rom - but not system data, apps only. Samsung system data does not work in CyanogenMod)

Further releases after initial flash can be downloaded and flashed through Rom Manager Premium version

Contacts and Facebook

Thought I would share this with you.

If you have a facebook account and set it up in accounts and sync you can then sync your facebook contacts with your phone.

"I know that you are proberbly saying" but if like me you have a load of facebook contacts you don't paticularly want on your contact list but would like to keep the images and facebook update for the contacts you do have, just join the 2 entries for the ones you want to keep.

Then go into Contacts, More, Display options and disable the facebook option.

I have been using this for awhile and works a treat.

Re: Contacts and Facebook

Haven't seen a "How to root sgs2" post so here's a guide with links to the downloads you'll need LINKY

I suggest you make a new folder on your PC, Name it what ever you find easy to remember (called mine New Odin as I already have an Odin file). Inside the new folder create 3 more, one called XWKDD , another called  Odin and then the last one called SuperOneClick. That way you won't get things mixed up. Follow the instructions and all will be well.

Please note that rooting your phone negates the warranty and you do it at your own risk, basically if you brick it, its your problem no one elses. Good luck. :smileyhappy:

Re: Contacts and Facebook

If you have lost or changed your IMEI to 004999010640000 after flashing the custom ROM, this can lead to Reception issue and SIM card read error. Follow the steps to get it back to normal.

How to Fix

# First things first higly recomended clean froyo firmware(or bootloader) so my choice was a ezbase froyo. You can find it on Galnet MIUI guide.

# Phone must be rooted. if you flash EZBase then you need not worry. its already rooted..

# After clean installation of froyo/ezbase than make sure that your simcard is working and IMEI is correct.

# If everythings working as used to be then install app call " Boite a outlis SGS" from market (its a french app but no worries who doesn' understand it. Definitly serve the purpose)

# Open the app u installed from step 4 and allow for root access.even app is french luckly main tab bar is english so click on "efs" (3rd from left) and than click on option 1 (sauvegarde EFS) this will backup your correct IMEI/efs to apps own folder on internal sd card. Copy the whole folder on you desktop/laptop/external SD card. You might need it.

# Than just flash your MIUI rom as normal

# After u finish with clean and correct installation of MIUIrom than install same app from step 4!! and than click on "efs" tab and go with second option(restauration EFS)

# There u go now u have a clean miui rom with correct imei and working sim card

# Enjoy!!! and Press kudos button if this post helped you.. :smileyhappy:

Low Volume on Galaxy S and S2

[ Edited ]

Low Volume on the ear jack

remember, playing around is on your own risk. You can seriously render your phone useless!

Access the service menu on your phone my dialing *#*#197328640#*#*

And yes, you can also access every other audio setting in the phone.

Choose:

[5] AUDIO -> [1] NB (VOICE CALL) -> [2] HEADSET -> [1] VOLUME -> [1] SRC Speech RX Volume -> [5] 5_lvl: xx

and change xx by pressing the menu button -> Key Input and then typing in a value between 0-100, where 100 is 100% = maximum. To save, you need to use the menu button -> Back. Press this several times till you exit the service menu.

Pressing the fixed back button won't save your new setting.

As you can probably tell in "[1] SRC Speech RX Volume", there are 6 different levels that you can customize. I always like to have the lowest level "

0_lvl: xx" to something really low like 25, and the highest level "[5] 5_lvl: xx" to 100.

This should not be atempted if you do not no what your doing the only problems i have found is what the stock level should be but i start at 25 and work my way up

It does varey Firmware to firmware

The [ ] are options in the menu and [5] is the headphone jack

This is only a Temp fix a Factory wipe clears these out

Re: Low Volume on Galaxy S and S2

Now we have all had brown trouser moments when up dating

well Here is another little tool

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1153310

Now it works on Vista and Windows 7 after following the instructions

Only works if you have

and you do not have a Jig (Better to have one)

and the three button does not work (and as long as it did before)

But i bricked a phone on purpose to try this and it does work

But keep a eye on the phone when the screen goes black press the three button quick and it lets you back in to recovery or Download mode

In the video it runs the firmware mine didn't i got the above image but this time just rebooting got me into recovery

Re: Galaxy S- Resource Board

EZ BASE

EZ Base is a great tool for leaping on to a custom ROM. With EZ Base you flash it in the same way as Odin [because it is Odin lol] It will "ROOT" your phone for you without the need to flash a kernel again and also install Clockwork Recovery Mod. Make sure you have all the drivers installed on your pc so that your pc can pick up your phone. Disable Kies during this process.

The process is very simple and only takes minutes to do and can be achieved by following these instructions

  1. Download EZ base from here
  2. Once downloaded you will need to unzip it with either winrar or 7Zip. Download 7Zip here
  3. Extract the downloaded EZ Base files

  4. Open the extracted folder and then click on the Android man and insert the following files
    PIT
    PDA
    PHONE
    CSC
  5. For best results back up your music, contacts etc then perform a factory data reset and format the internal sd card so that the phone is totally clean
  6. Power off your phone then put it in to download mode by presing Vol down, Home, Power button and now a YELLOW android man will appear
  7. Attach your phone to the pc and EZ will pick it up and the com port will turn yellow
  8. Now click START. Your phone will start to recieve the update. Once flashed your phone will be rooted and ready for you to move on to a custom ROM of your choice.

* Please note that by flashing your phone you will VOID your warrenty with Vodafone UK. Flashing is done at your own risk and I'm not responsible should anything go wrong.

Install Heimdall-Frontend in Ubuntu

[ Edited ]

Heimdall is an Open Source, cross platform version of Odin, that can be used in Linux, Mac and Windows.

This is How I installed heimdall and the Frontend on Ubuntu 11.04 Nutty Narwhal.

I have NO experience with iMac so am unable to offer installation advice. I would assume it to be very similar as both systems are built on UNIX.

The first thing we need to do is make sure we have the libqt4 files installed.

Open the "Ubuntu Software Centre" Screenshot.png

Once open go to - Developer Tools - Libraries, and search for libqt4.

Screenshot-Ubuntu Software Centre.png

Click on each of the three files found and install them.

Now we need to download and install the two Heimdall files needed.

Heimdall website HERE

Direct Download:

Heimdall 1.3.0 command line program HERE

Heimdall 1.3.0 Frontend HERE

When downloading the files, choose the Default option...

Always install the Command Line version FIRST...!

Screenshot-Opening heimdall_1.3.0_i386.deb.png

This will automatically download to the Software Centre, it may take a few seconds to open. Then choose the option to install.

Do the same for the Heimdall-Frontend...!

Close all open windows...

Now open the Terminal window. Screenshot-1.png

Now Type...

sudo heimdall-frontend

then press enter.

Type your user password, nothing will appear as you type. This is normal, simply type your password and press the Enter key.

After 1 or 2 seconds the Heimdall Frontend should appear.

Screenshot_heimdall.png

You now need to download some Heimdall Firmware packages to load into the software to flash your Galaxy S.

A quick search on XDA-Developers will uncover some stock roms pre-compiled.

Thats as far as I have gotten so far, I have not flashed using this method yet...!

There is a One-Click version in the pipe line.

Please install and use this software at your own risk! I take No responsibility for any damage caused to your phone either by following this "How To", or by using the software.

Re: Install Heimdall-Frontend in Ubuntu

Ever Copy a CD Legally to plays on your Phone and you get a Music icon up instead of the track art

Well you need to change the MP3 Tag this has all that posh info that scrolls on the top of the screen, it also keeps your tracks in the right album

Also you can make your own album and make sure all your tracks stay in the right place

The program is FREE lol

form Cnet http://download.cnet.com/Mp3tag/3000-2141_4-10313616.html?tag=mncol;1

It does take some figuring out but i'm around to help if needed
