Heat problems with S4 following 5.0.1 update

I recieved a notification today that an update was ready for my phone. I backed everything up and proceeded with it. On completion I discovered that this was an update to Lollipop and immediately did a factory reset of the device. Once that was complete I proceeded with setting up the device from scratch again, restoring my backup in the process. I stopped about 5 minutes in when I realised that the phone was so hot it actually scorched the case the device is in. I turned the phone off for a few minutes and started it back up and installed a cpu temperature monitor to see that the CPU is hitting 60c with next to nothing running. I have exhausted all ideas, including doing a cleardown of cache, removing the msd card, switching sim, a different battery, another factory reset, disabling bits of the hardware and many other things. At the peak it was discharging battery quicker than it was charging. Nothing seems to help. Has anyone got any ideas? I'm probably going to go into the store tomorrow but suspect they'll go through the same process I already have.

I believe I may have found part of the issue and it is Google Now.

I went through killing apps and services one by one until something produced a temperature reduction on the device. I killed Google Services forcing them to restart and when they did up popped a google now wizard which previously had not been showing. Completed the wizard and the processor temperature has dropped from around 60c to around a constant 42c which is still too high (should idle at around 25-34c). Not sure if the phone running maxed out all this time has damaged something but I'll continue looking further. May actually run a bit hotter with Lollipop than ICS and can get it down to the mid 30's Cannot see anything else running other than stock os apps though. Probably go in and get them to check it just incase. Better safe than having a skin graft as it hits 70c again.

Quick addendum, the Samsung Store and Vodafone Store both believe that the Software caused the issue but that the temperature may have caused some additional damage as the phone is now running 15-25c hotter on idle than it should be. So it has been sent off for repair.

You may have to Google that information to see if you can find any of the release logs.
