Help for a Genio Slide User...

Morning All,

My wife has a Samsung Genio Slide (GT-B5310) and is having real problems with the facebook app.  She's had the phone a while now and is hopefully only a few weeks away from an upgrade, but the facebook app has become hopelessly unuseable in the last couple of weeks.  It fails to login most of the time, or the connection times out, whether on wi fi or 3G.

She recently had a change to her contract to get a data tariff which she didn't have before, but I can't see how that should make a difference.  I've tried taking the battery out of the phone and resetting it (stab in the dark!) but to no avail.  I notice that the Facebook app has a long list of profiles (Contract WAP, Contract MMS and a whole host of others named after various WiFi hotspots its found at some point) but changing these doesn't seem to help either.

I'm no expert in this phone (and am looking forward to the day when we can get her onto Android!) so was hoping someone out there could offer some troubleshooting advice..

Thanks,

Al.

Re: Help for a Genio Slide User...

Hi alhenderson,

Thank you for posting, I can imagine this issue must be quite frustrating.

Is your wife able to access the internet at all? Or is it just the Facebook App that she's having problems with? It it's the internet in general then this could be down to the WAP/Internet settings on the phone. I'd recommend checking our Samsung Genio Slide Help page for the setup guides. If this is just the facebook app, then I'd recommend re-downloading it.

I also notice that you mention that she's due an upgrade soon. If you'd like to discuss the options with us directly, then please reply to the email I've just sent you and a member of the team will be in touch as soon as they can :smileyhappy:.

Re: Help for a Genio Slide User...

George,

Thanks for your reply.  Its just the Facebook app that's the problem.  She can access the mobile facebook website, but doesn't like it (typical!).  I wondered about re-installing the app, but not sure how to go about doing that on this phone - can you advise?

I'll look for your other email..

Thanks,

Al.

Re: Help for a Genio Slide User...

I have downloaded the Samsung Kies software and connected the phone but can see no way of uninstalling the facebook widget on the phone.  I didn't think you could download and install apps on this phone - is this correct or am I missing something?

Thanks,

Al.

Re: Help for a Genio Slide User...

Hi alhenderson,

Thanks for your reply. Having looked into this in more detail, I don't believe there is a way to uninstall the Facebook widget from the Genio Slide. The best thing to do would be to take a look at the Samsung Apps page, if there is an alternative app to use, then it will be found here.

I don't think I can install apps on this phone.  You'd think there'd be a list of supported devices on the Samsung Apps site, but if there is its well hidden :-(

Hi Alhenderson,

Unfortunately we don't this device in the office to test this for you however, you should still be able to install applications onto the device.

The only other way of doing this for facebook may be through the website itself, if you go to facebook and log in using the phone's web browser, scroll to the bottom of the page, there will sometimes be a link to download the application for you phone.

Unfortunately there isn't much more we can do, other than look at an early upgrade for you.

Paul,

I think the problem has now been solved by means of an upgrade - suits me :-)

Thanks,
