Ice Cream Any One ????

Well Well Well

The rumors are a foot

Reported On YouMobile Good old Samsung Italy has said there going to start rolling out ICS

2 weeks ago SamsungUK confirmed that the ICS Update is coming to the Galaxy S II but No Official Date given yet, well this keeps Galaxy S II users happy on the safe side as they will surely get this Update, The info for the Other GT-I9XXX family is not clear yet

So what does this tell us well Not alot

And after the mess the S2 lads have had with OTA and kies crashing its not Good

But the Nexus s is confirmed to get the ICS treetment

And Google have confirmed that is a phone is running 2.3.3 and above then there is no reason why ICS will not work

Now that is a confusing statement as the HTC Nexus one has 2.3.3 on it but there not getting ICS on the Nexus one

We will no more when the Nexus s Gets the update and the custom rom crue get there mites on it

So will we or wont we

Re: Ice Cream Any One ????

I very much doubt that the i9000 will get ICS tbh. Hopefully the Devs that provide us with custom roms will be able to port the firmware over to the i9000.

Re: Ice Cream Any One ????

I'm currently running MIUI/Galnet - Chameleon weekly build.

They do have an ICS Build using the ICS Framework but doesn't have any of the features yet, so looks pretty much stock MIUI.

The point is that if the Framework runs ok then there really should not be any reason not to get it on the Galaxy S GT-I9000.

http://galnetmiui.co.uk/landing/ics-builds/

According to the Dev's, the Framework is ultra stable and they are going to use it on all their Stable Builds.

Battery and Memory management is said to be greatly improved with ICS framework.

Re: Ice Cream Any One ????

Hi ado

The main MIUI is based in China and is a completely different thing to CM.

However the Galnet Team have used some of the CM stuff with permission. Not sure if it was kernel related or not?

I used the TwooEZ base (JVP) using Heimdall (in Ubuntu) to flash a Clean Base.

Then copied over the zip and flashed via CWM 2eRecovery.

Works really nice, and seems to have great battery life after a couple of Days.

To start with AndroidOS was at 78%, but over 2-3 days came down and is now at 2%. Everything seems to work really well, and updates are Non Wipe!

Re: Ice Cream Any One ????

Miui has a CM base however CM is open source, miui is closed source.

Re: Ice Cream Any One ????

Just been chatting to my contact at Samsung

here is the Gossip

Google has been talking to Manufactures and they have TOLD them that any phone that has Gingerbread on there is no reason why ICS will not work !!

Sounds like Google are trying to stop the fragmentation

So with out any information on ICS Samsung only said way back when ICS was lauched that the S2 and Note will get it

Now Google have given a list of devices that they think should run stock ICS and they will want to no why not

Now the only reason i can see is Touchwiz now Samsung have been testing it on the Nexus s and he thinks January it will get the update

It seems that Google are quoting the agreement manufacture all signed up to now this conflicts with the 18 months Guarantee But with OTA happerning could we be offered a stock ICS

Now i no the scepticks out there will point to the Youtube footage of ICE running on a Galaxy s well that was rumbled as the developer openly said it was the sdk he had ported, it was some young twit that started the rumour

Made my contact laugh, He has said that Google have not given them a stock rom to try on device yet so there only going on specs of devices

So i think we will no more when the Nexus s gets it

Now i told him i like the look of the new stock ICS and he let slip that it is alot like touchwiz

If i was offered a stock ICS i would take it and i told him that the other thing is apps the Music player is better on the S range looks a bit basic still on the Nexus Plus i use other apps like, Allshare (dlna player)

so i can see they would want to test all them

I think Febuary we will no for sure thats my bet or may be March as it was March when Gingerbread started

Re: Ice Cream Any One ????

It looks like us CyanogenMod folks will only get a decent working version then lol.

With Sammy's latest announcement then its offical and Gingerloaf is the final rom. The Galaxy S has finally had its day and lets be honest, it has had a cracking kick at the ball considering how fast technology is moving these days. I think that once the S3 comes out then that will officially kill our wee S1's off for good and the Dev chef's will start concentrating on S2's and 3's.

My droid has been on CyanogenMod, nightly build 181 for the last month and in all honesty its been the best nightly to date. My battery is absolutely fantastic and I can easily get 3 days out of my phone plus every feature that I have tried on the rom works perfect. I have even convinced 2 apple diehards to convert over to android and this was some achievement! I would recommend anyone how hasn't given Nightly 181 a try to do so and if you do decide to flash it then do a total format first then factory data reset, install 181 followed by another factory data reset then flash gapps and your done!

Re: Ice Cream Any One ????

yeah i fully agree, the sgs has blazed a good trail in the last 18 months or so, and will be remembered as a great smartphone that gave rise to even better ones like the sgs II. like the others have already said, the cyanogen/teamhacksung route seems the only way at the moment to get a taste of the ice cream. i have their beta/alpha/whatever on mine (version 10) and it is working well now after needing a few zip fixes.

Re: Ice Cream Any One ????

Proof it works

makes me laight when they say they look after the phone for 18 months from lauch, now that is not when its launched in the UK its there launch it takes six months to get to us

Now we have mentioned this before But manufactures are using Updates to sell phones

Apples latest has even updated there old 2G phone and Microsoft rolled out a update Mango which all users got with in a phew days even the bloated phones

Now tha Galaxy s is still being sold and it still has things that need tweeking

Now don't get me wrong android is a good OS and it only seems to be good on the Galaxy Nexus

somthing Big needs to be sorted at Samsungs end

Other Manufacture don't update as mutch but they don't have half the problems that have plaged the galaxy range

The Galaxy S I think was the best putting them on the market but throughing us to one side is not the best idea

It s the only think going for the Iphone is How apple Update

I Have lost faith with samsung :mansad:

Re: Ice Cream Any One ????

[ Edited ]

There's an established online peitition for ics to samsung (dunno how long it's been going)

Publicised by codeworkx of cyanogenmod fame in a tweet.

http://www.change.org/petitions/wwwsamsungcom-distribution-of-ice-cream-sandwich-version-for-users-o...

on that, did samsung really say this? (in bold)

Samsung has now justified why it cannot give the Ice Cream Sandwich update on both the devices. Galaxy S maybe similar to the Nexus S but Samsung says that "the smartphone and the Galaxy Tab run Samsung specific elements like TouchWiz UI, video calls, Samsung widgets, carrier and country customizations that makes difficult to run the new OS smoothly. The RAM and ROM storage are also an issue", Samsung said.

We are terriblly Sorry for all Galaxy S users who won't be able to get the ICS Official Update, your only chance is to root your Devices and get some ICS tweaked ROMs

Re: Ice Cream Any One ????

I doubt it  that sounds like a users opinion. The strange thing is that the usual people that let slip samsung stuff on twitter and internal are stumped as they have not herd this, Samsung Northern irland has sai that until it hers somthing through the offical channels

Don't for get the facebook pages are run by PR Companise and not connected with samsung

They have and will upset heaps of customers and gess what hurts companise BAD PR
