J700 Limited Service?

Hi folks,

One of the phones i bought is a J700 and it keeps displaying Limited Service at random times. When called, it often goes straight to voicemail even when it's connected to VF. Rebooting the phone usually sorts for a while but i can't keep doing that every day.

Is there a fix for this?

Cheers

J700 Limited Service?

Hi GremlinUK,

Thanks for getting in touch! It sounds like you have a bit of a stubborn device on your hands :o

Does the message seem to show up when you're in a specific location? If so could you supply a postcode so I can check the area? Another issue could be the age of your SIM card; is it over 2-3 years old? A free replacement SIM can help to strengthen coverage and improve reliability.

Failing the above the handset itself will have a warranty of 2 years. Check our repairs thread for information on the process ;)

Let me know how you get on!

Cheers, Ben

Hi Ben,
It doesn't seem to matter where the phone is. The other 2 phones that are on VF are fine in the same location. The J700 will just get a strop on even when it's still and laying on the desk in front of me. The signal strength is fine.

The SIM that came with the phone was defective (tried in other phones) and could not be read so i've already replaced it with another new one.

If i change profiles from eg. outdoor to normal and back again it sometimes fixes it for a while. Even though it appears to be on the VF network at full strength, the phone cannot be rung and goes straight to voicemail.

Thanks,
Glenn

J700 Limited Service?

Hi GremlinUK,

Thanks for the added information. It does sound like the repair is going to be the solution here.

One last thing to check before hand, though - you say you have other Vodafone phones. Can you confirm for me if you've tried the SIM in either of those for a test and if the same thing happens? This will help to check specifically if it's linked to the SIM or account, or if it's specific to the handset.

If the other handset is fine, then I'd just suggest backing up the dataton the handset - you should do this before the repair anyway - and tryrestoring the handset to it's factory settings, just in case something in the software on the device has become corrupted.

Failing that, then the instructions Ben linked to will guide you in arranging a repair. Don't forget that if you have Cover Me insurance you can also get a courtesy phone whilst yours is away.

J700 Limited Service?

Hi Dave,

Right. I've swapped SIMs again and the phone still does it. I've only just bought the 3 phones direct from VF online. All the SIMs are also new.

As ive just bought it i'd be happier taking it to a VF shop and swapping it there if it has to be changed.

Resetting the settings didn't make any difference.

Thanks,
Glenn

J700 Limited Service?

Hi Glenn,

I'm sorry mine and Daves info didn't help this time round. If you take the handset back to the store you had it from within the first 28 day along with your receipt they'll be only too happy to help swap it for another brand new one. Touch wood you have a bit more joy this time! :)

Cheers, Ben
