Keis problem?

Hi all,

Is anyone having a problem with Keis at the moment?

It's a log story as to how it happened but I deleted all my ineternal memory (pics/vids/music etc) at the weekend but wasn't too worried as I backed it up last week anyway.

Gone to back it all up today on my work PC, Keis opens ok and connects to the phone ok but I select the files to restore and Keis just then kind of greys out (as it does when connecting) but nothing happens. Left it for upto 45 mins as I did have a lot of stuff on there but it looks like it just hangs.

Oh, hang on, it also stops working if I go into the Help>About Keis menu.

If I uninstall Keis and download it again, does anyone know if it'll keep my restore files?

If not, does anyone know the files to copy out of my original Keis so I can paste into the new program (assuming this will work of course)

Ta for any help

Robin

Re: Keis problem?

OK, update...

Kies (sorry for wrong spelling earlier...) now connects but I can only restore contacts?

When I go into the restore option, it tells me there's 7gb of data which is about right as I had a fair bit of vids/music etc on there, but it only lets me select contacts as the option. When the restore is complete, it says something like 56mb of data has been restored.

Can I not restore other data, or am I missing something?

The back up was completed when i switched over to 2.3.5 and again at the beginning of last week.

Help...

Re: Keis problem?

Hi Robin, if you go in to your app drawr and touch on "my files" it will show you all the folders on your internal sd card so you could try here but I suspect that you have lost all your data.

Hi Robinh

On your PC, Go to Documents > Samsung > Kies > Backup > GT-I9000.

In there should be your backed up files.

Your files may be in one of the other folders?

Connect the phone in Mass Storage mode and copy and paste across.

Re: Keis problem?

Hi Soupdragon,

Tried looking at that but all I can find are SBU files.

How do I get this to ge picked up by Kies?

Re: Keis problem?

Hi Robin

I'm going to try it for myself. I usually back up by using Mass storage mode and copying files to my desktop.

Bear with me, I be in touch later...

@Robin

Connect the phone to Kies so that it is Shown.

Now go to the Restore option and click the restore button.

A window pops up and there is a button to click to find the saved SBU file.

Kies Restore.png

Now browse to Documents > samsung > Kies > backup > GT-I9000 - Click on the SBU file.

Hopefully this will work for you...???

Re: Keis problem?

Hi Soupdragon,

Found the file as you've suggested, but when I continue through the process, it still only gives me the option for contacts?

I go into Documents > samsung > Kies > backup > GT-I9000 - Click on the SBU file, but when I continue on the process, even though the file is 7gb, it still only shows the contacts as being restored.

Re: Keis problem?

Here we go in a bit more depth:

phone 3.JPG

phone 4.JPG

How come it's only the contacts that show up? (I got it wrong, the info is only 34meg but the SBU file is 7GB?

Confused...

Re: Ekes problem?

@ Robin

That is weird...???

You know when you go into Backup/Restore, there is the option to tick...

Contacts

Photos

Video

Music... Etc.

Have you tried ticking those then do the restore!

I must admit, I am a bit bemused by this Crazy.gif

Re: Kies problem?

Hi Soupdragon, thanks for your help so far by the way.

When I first went into Kies to restore it, I ticked all 4 boxes but isn't this to do with backup?

I have tried it anyway but it made no difference :-(

Re: Kies problem?

Hi Robin

I have tried all ways to restore Data back onto the phone from an .sbu backup. It only recovers the Contacts, as you said in your OP.

I'm very sorry but I have tried several methods,

Rolled back to previous Kies software.

Installed JPY made backup, installed JVT, can't restore. rolled back to JPY still can't Restore!

It might be worth raising this with Samsung!

In the future use Mass Storage Mode.

Sorry

Re: Kies problem?

Hi Soupdragon,

I'll drop them a line and see if they say anything.

Thanks for your help though, like I said in my earlier post, it was my fault for ignoring the warnings anyway!
