Phone displays # instead of £ (hash instead of pound)

I'm in the UK - when I request my balance no screen it returns #10.48 instead of £10.48 which is not a showstopper but looks dumb.

This is usually what happens on a PC when the language is set up for a US English but you are using UK English and keyboard.

Looking in the phone settings there is only one English avail to select..

Anyone know how to get my phone to talk UK English to me?

Thanks

Mike

Re: Phone displays # instead of £ (hash instead of pound)

Hi,

Sounds strange - I couldn't find any other reports on the internet about this one.

Have you tried setting the phone back to English? There's the following help article on the Samsung Tocco Lite Help page under the 'misc' section

How do I set the phone menu back to English?

Touch the Menu icon
Touch the Cog icon
Touch the fourth option down
Touch the top option
Touch the top option
Touch English
Touch Save.

It is set to English. I already checked that. My point is it's displaying the US character not the English one. Perhaps vodafone have the problem and are sending the wrong thing? If I type a message then £ and # work correctly - suggesting UK english works on the phone but #10.00 is not a currency ;-)

[ Edited ]

I've never seen it as a form of currency before either :smileyhappy:

The only other things I can think of is trying to sim in a different Vodafone phone if you've got one at hand (if not a store might be able to help) and seeing if it returns the same symbol directly from the network (that said I've just tried my balance in a Nokia N95 and I'm getting a £ sign). If it's just happening on the Lite only then it could be worth a factory reset

Well we have two Tocco Lites  both on PAYG and both do the same so it is starting to look like a 'feature' of the phone ;-)
