Re: Phone stuck in download mode

try flashing again, it could need a second attempt to rectify the mess Kies caused.

Re: Phone stuck in download mode

Scrub that. I was being a fool - I forgot to Load/Customise.

Well it got a bit further this time and chucked a load of text onto the screen after a reboot. Then I got the music, etc. but now it's constantly looping the S animation sequence.

Re: Phone stuck in download mode

Right, I VolUpHomePowered it and it came up with a number of options in blue at the top:

reboot system now

apply update from sdcard

wipe data/factory reset

wipe cache partition

Trying a reboot... Logo, music, animation, animation, animation...

Re: Phone stuck in download mode

Yep very important to follow instructions very carefully...

I have tested this extensively and it will unbrick a phone without any problem!

Re: Phone stuck in download mode

I just flashed for a third time and it's now staying put on the screen with the big S and GALAXY S at the bottom. Plus there's no startup music any more.

I'm beginning to believe that perhaps this phone's hardware isn't too clever and I fear that Vodafone might tell me to naff off because I tried flashing it through non-Kies avenues.

Re: Phone stuck in download mode

sorry to ###### in TSD, have you tried removing battery then try to get into download mode then follow guide exactly ?

As TSD says it does work, I have used it many times.

Re: Phone stuck in download mode

Yes 63johnw I have followed it 3 times now and it only gets to load up but no further. I'm now wondering if the flash memory might be faulty or something.

Re: Phone stuck in download mode

Your best bet is to take it to a Samsung Service Centre as they will fix it or replace it.

You have a 2 year Warranty with Samsung.

The Vodafone Warranty is only as a 3rd party repairer, as they offset the repair to Samsung. Exactly the same as a Authorised High Street repairer.

Re: Phone stuck in download mode

A service centre would have flashed your phone with software called Odin.

Heimdall is an open source version of Odin but safer. So you have done what would have been done for you.

I think you're right, it could be the nandflash corrupt, so it may need a Jtag reprogram, or a replacement phone?

Re: Phone stuck in download mode

I even tried pleading with it (I know it wasn't in your instructions but you didn't say NOT to plead with it either).

I booted into recovery mode and there's a green android standing next to a triangle with a yellow ! in it. The yellow writing says:

-- Copying media files...

Successfully copied meida [sic] files.

# MANUAL MODE #

-- Appling [sic] Multi-CSC...

Installing Multi-CSC

Can't access to '/system/csc/VOD/system/'.

Successfully applied multi-CSC.

If that means anything.

Anyway from the top options in blue, should I try a wipe data/factory reset?

Re: Phone stuck in download mode

At the top there is an option to wipe cache, select that and use home button to select.

When that finishes choose option to factory reset.

Re: Phone stuck in download mode

If you get the S logo you need to wait for it to boot

Are you puting the phone into download mode, if so the android is all yellow looks like a road works sign

when it was flashing did you see a blue line increesing under the yellow android when it gets to the end the phone will reset

it will show the Samsing Galaxy then loads of txt and a little yelow android in the back ground after that it will reboot and show the S this can take a bit before it all loads

If you have not seen any of the above then somthing is wrong

imagesCADLOC42.jpgThis is Download mode

imagesCANM7UMQ.jpgThis is recovery mode

To flash your phone needs to be in Download mode

Re: Phone stuck in download mode

Yes it was in download mode when I flashed.

I wiped the cache and the data and then rebooted it. It stayed on the logo for a bit before going into setup for the keyboard, wifi and accounts. But then it went all weird on me again, blank screen. When I pressed the power button it went to the sand dune screen and told me to swipe to unlock but then it just went all blank again, although the battery and wifi icons were on the top. And no network. I've rebooted it and it's stuck back on the S logo again.

Ok ok don't panic go back in to recovery mode and do another factory wipe when its finished in recovery mode pull the battery and wait put the battery back in and press the power again if the same thing happens re flash it souds like the boot loader is corupted this can be from before

If this happens the only other way is the odin method which is not as easy

Flashed again and it's stuck on the power-on GALAXY S screen.

I think it's broke.

Shame, nice phone.

Thanks for all your help though chaps. I will now have to take it to a service centre, the nearest of which is 20 miles away.

shame you not near me this is deff the boat loader that was damaged with kies

To fix flashing back is needed

Shame yoiur not in Yorkshire i could of sorted it

One last question when you flashed did you put a tick in re partition as this could also be a boatloader clash

re patition removes the previouse corupt bootloader

Re: Phone stuck in download mode

It needs Flashing with Re partition Ticked and it should work

The repartiotion is not ticked so its using the previos bootloader this is why is getting stuck
