Re: Phone stuck in download mode

I can confirm that repartition was ticked. Just in case I tried again and so far no joy. I don't think it's going to work. I think it's a hardware fault.

Re: Phone stuck in download mode

I'm finding it odd just how badly this is affecting me. It's only a phone but so far it's the best I've ever had. The previous best one was the longish Nokia with the decade long battery life - 6310i I think. I still have that somewhere but I don't think the battery can hold a charge now. I didn't upgrade that for 3 or 4 years because nothing around came close to it really.

I really hope it's a simple repair or can be swapped for a refurbed model. I used to be against refurbs but a lot of them have stood the test of time and spare batteries are a lot cheaper than they were. I remember being quoted £70 for a replacement battery once!

I'm now wondering if my battery problems and regular random crashes have been down to the hardware fault that I believe has manifest itself since I updated to Gingerbread.

Re: Phone stuck in download mode

The main thing is the cup and that seems fine as you can get in the recovery mode, All there service center's have what they call a black box this totally programs the phone, then they will try the firmware but make sure you tell them it was kies that did this, when they sort it they will put jw4 on that is the most up to date Rom at you will think you have a new phone let us no how you get on

Re: Phone stuck in download mode

Hold on a mo... Was this ROM ICS? If so will it run on my Galaxy S. I'm not sure which version I have but I believe there's a version with less ROM space? I bet they sent me that one last year...

Is there a way to try 2.3.6 using that Heimdall?

Re: Phone stuck in download mode

[ Edited ]

That was 2.3.6.

JW4 2.3.6 is the "Value Pack" released by Samsung containing ICS style Graphical tweaks.

It is still Gingerbread but with a more SGS2 look and feel to it.

I reflashed my phone last night using that package and it worked without a problem.

I think your phone has other issues...?

Your Sales Code CSC has not changed from VOD so it can go to Vodafone for repair if you want?

I prefer to use a manufacturer!

Right we need to no the history of this phone eg what rom's have been put on this before

also If its had a Lag fixes in the past , that can cause this

But it does need to go into a service centre, it is hard for us to advise now.

as what we have told you normally fixes phones on a soft brick.

Now if the phone had problems this would explian kies did this.

somtimes it can be hard with out the phone infront of you to figure out what the problem is

I contacted my local service centre , well he rang me on another subject !!!

so i asked him he said  it could even be a memory read issue, he said that it needs black boxing this a device that they use for testing the phone

If its just a Total refalsh he said that takes 24hrs, but as you can get into download mode he said two to three hours for a full flash and test

Re: Phone stuck in download mode

Right so I dropped it in a service centre about ~9.30am and went to a meeting. Got a text at 10.08 to say it was ready. So I went and picked it up in the afternoon and it's all working it seems.

It's been flashed with 2.3.6 JW4.

Re: Phone stuck in download mode

It's been a couple of weeks since having it 'repaired' and all seems fine still.

Interestingly, even after wiping all data and having a firmware forced on it a lot of my files were still there - photos, documents, etc. The only stuff that seemed to disappear were the apps and the contacts.

Incidentally, this 2.3.6 seems to last better on the battery, although it could be that I've decided not to install loads of widgets as I think they munch through power.

Re: Phone stuck in download mode

Hi, your pictures etc will have been stored on your external memory card, which should be unaffected by all the upgrades etc. its the internal sd that is wiped.

Re: Phone stuck in download mode

That's what I thought but I checked and they weren't. In fact I'd forgotten to put my external card back in when I realised the photos etc were still there. I'd taken it out in case it was contributing to the problems I was having.

I had them backed up anyway but oddness they weren't wiped.
