Ah, but if it is a software issue, and the fix isn't applied to the phone coming from VF, then how long would we have to wait before VF would then release the fix?
It has taken some time to get updates on my Nexus One from VF
You should have unlocked the bootloader then, like moi ![]()

Regarding 3G - Order a Sure Signal. 3G is almost none existent where we live, but with Vodafone's Sure Signal installed, signal in our house is no longer an issue
True, but why test something if you don't intend to do anything with the results?

It's only O2 and Vodafone in this country that use the 900Mhz frequencies. Also in many other countries 1900Mhz is used instead of 900 so i assume they would not have had the same issues during testing.
What i can gathber fromthis is that O2's testing wasn't good enough or maybe didn't happen and Phones4U probably dont test handsets at all.

Which would explain why VF said 'we're testing the handset to make sure it's compatible with our network'
So... somebody knew something before the release!
Are we to presume they knew full well P4U selling the phone on VF contracts would have problems also then? ... interesting

Because regardless of results, if Vodafone choose to stock a handset then they have to technically support it for the life of your contract, as this forms part of their T&C's. Testing allows the network to familiarise themselves with the phone, as well as spot potential issues that users may (or may not) experience.

I wouldn't have thought do. Phones4u are just a reseller of contracts. To them it doesn't matter what handset they sell on what contract, or wether it works or not.

Yea, I agree with that, not what I meant though:

Ah! I see what you mean Sorry.
It's unlikely but very clever business if that is the case. ![]()
I can see P4U having some verry angry customers over the coming week ![]()

Unlikely VF will have a software fix as that wont cure the issue. Samsung are now wanting names, addresses, IMEI numbers and proof of purchase. sounds like a recall coming up.

I must admit I was sceptical about it necessarily being a hardware issue (could've just as easily have been a software glitch that only occured in a very specific set of conditions) but introducing a 900Mhz signal from an external source does seem quite compelling evidence that something is properly broken here.
Messy if this is the case as, even if the fix is quick, it'll quite possibly take a week or few for this to filter into production and to produce new revised handsets in any serious volume (no pun intended). Plus I expect they'll want to go overboard with quality control before any relaunch.

This is not a quick fix with a software patch!!
You know what, I see a shielded phone case on the horizon.
How ironic, when you just wanna be like an iphone...

Not long since spoken to a lad who has a Nexus and tried to reproduce that video using an iPhone with an O2 SIM in it forced into 2G mode, said he couldn't make it do anything untoward in several attempts. So perhaps its not a totally universal flaw at least.
And I suspect a shielded case wouldn't help if there are cases of the phone interfering with itself (sorry if that sounds a bit smutty) when making 2G calls.

You would like to think that it's just a batch of duff phones.
Doesn't bode well for qulity control....
I just wish VF would give us a release date, even if it's in 2012!

Hopefully for Samsung its not a design fault. Given its a slightly obscure and specific issue then you could possibly forgive this being missed in QC, and hopefully they'll sort out those who are suffering the issue.

Mcav I seriously hope it arrives very soon, my Touch Pro 2 has been degrading by the day and is now in for repair again.
My back up TYTN II is our of the ark and possibly the slowest phone in the world... LOL!!
If I had any sort of launch date to work to I could make some plans, rather than just be sit in limbo!

I hate to start an arguement but I would like to think that we would prefer to own a phone that works!
If VF are doing extra tests to ensure that the phone works to the best of its abilities then I will be happy to wait a few weeks. I for one laughed my ###### off when the iPhone had all those problems. Yes VF didnt do extra testing with that phone maybe becuase they were not allowed to by Apple due to contractual issues. The FW is all done by Apple with no exceptions! Apple control all that along with the tariffs.
I am heartened that VF are doing there thing and making sure that the phone gives the best experience, like they did with the SE Satio. The P4U version had awful problems with the software but the VF version had no problems whatsoever.
I for one am GAGGING to get my mits on the phone but only if it works!
Lets all chill, stop being melodramatic and making up all sorts of stories and just wait for them to do there thing and release it.
