I'm having difficulty with ssl web sites.

When connecting to a web page secured with a valid SSL certificate using
the standard Android Browser, the page fails to render. ie. its just a blank white screen

Basically its any web site which has an https:// prefix

eg. HSBC android banking, facebook mobile, etc.

Is anyone else having this problem on gingerbread 2.3.3 ??

Might just be the SGS version, when I was running 2.3.3 on my Desire I had no issues of this nature..

Edit: Do you get the same issue on different browsers?

Which Gingerbread is it VT ? JVH or JVB custom rom or stock ? every thing is ok on 2.2.1 JPY

Ok so I've just discovered that I can access these secure sites when I'm using wifi but not when im using vodafone 3g.

So it appears to be an APN issue. ie. Vodafone is blocking anything with an https:// prefix

Can someone else try it and confirm the same happens to them??

try facebook, for example

BTW the vodafone APN I'm using is Vodafone WAP

This needs to be some one on Gingerbread as it works fine on Froyo

Ok so I've cracked it finally.

I lost my settings when I flashed a custom ROM the other day.

So I went to the Galaxy S help pages on this web site to get the APN settings and I manually entered them in.

The thing is there are two sets of settings:

One is called vodafone wap and the other is called vodafone internet.

I punched in the settings for Vodafone WAP and everything has been fine, browsing the web, receiving email, etc

all except these secure sites. https://

I've just entered in the settings for Vodafone internet instead and it allows access to these sites.

I'm not sure but I think it will affect anyone who is connected via Vodafone WAP, regardless of what firmware version  they're running.

The vodafone WAP apn seems to block https:// sites

I can get on to facbook via the web and that does the https:/ thing and windows live does this is strange my wifes tab works fine with my simm in 

Have you tried putting your brouser in tonormal mode i do this via Google search i pic classic and it shrinks down website then don't work in wap mode but normal hopefully Soup could try this on the VF firmware he has on 

at least its not the firmware 

But why this has not come up before now ?????

Guys, As ive already said, ive got it working by selecting vodafone internet apn in wireless and networks setting. Its just it doesnt work when you select vodafone wap apn. Its not a problem i just had the wrong apn selected that all. I didnt realise there was a difference.
