Samsung Blade - Help Setting Up Email on Handset

I can receive email from my account (BT Yahoo) via an email link BT Yahoo sent to me. I can access this via a bookmark. However I cannot view email via the messaging menu under email inbox. When I try to set up an email account, put in my POP3, SMTP details etc as requested I get an unable to connect message.

Can I fix this?

Samsung Blade - Help Setting Up Email on Handset

Hi lymond,

A warm welcome to the eForum! You’ve come to the right place to get this sorted! :D

I think we should firstly check that the settings are all correct so below is a step by step guide for setting up email on the Samsung Blade:

1. Touch Menu
2. Touch Messages
3. Touch Settings
4. Touch Email
5. Touch Email profiles
6. Touch Create
7. Touch the field under Set name
8. Touch the left pointing arrow to delete text already present (e.g. Connection 01)
9. Enter Vodafone web, touch Done
10. Touch the field under Access name
11. Enter:
For Pay monthly customers: internet
For Pay as you go customers: pp.vodafone.co.uk
12. Touch Done
13. Scroll to and touch the drop-down arrow below Auth type
14. Touch Normal
15. Touch the field under User ID
16. Enter web, touch Done
17. Scroll to and touch the field under Password
18. Enter web, touch Done
19. Scroll to and touch the drop-down arrow under Protocol
20. Touch HTTP
21. Scroll to and touch Save
22. Touch Vodafone web
23. Touch Email accounts
24. Touch Create
25. Touch the field under Account name
26. Enter the email account name, touch Done
27. Touch the field under SMTP server
28. Enter send.vodafone.net, touch Done
29. Scroll to and touch the drop-down arrow below Incoming server type
30. Touch POP3 or IMAP4 (depending on the type of account)
31. Scroll to and touch the field under POP3/IMAP4 server
32. Enter the incoming mail server address, touch Done
33. Scroll to and touch the field under My address
34. Enter the account email address, touch Done
35. Scroll to and touch the field under User name
36. Enter the email account user name, touch Done
37. Scroll to and touch the field under Password
38. Enter the email

I believe the incoming mail server for your BT Yahoo account is mail.btinternet.com (you can double check this if required with your mail provider).

Let me know how it goes with all of the above. :)

As you’re new to the forum and clearly an online user, I want to take the opportunity to tell you about the fantastic things you can do through My Account, such as managing your price plan or adding or removing bars. I recommend you take 5 minutes to take a look at all of the things you can do online without having to contact the call centre, saving you lots of time! :)

All the best,

Jenny

Give it a different name. The name is not really important. It doesn't affect the settings just allows you to differentiate between them.

Hi lymond,

As P1E_EATER suggests, the email profile name is just a visual marker for yourself of the profile, so this can be anything you want, but it needs to be unique. I tend to name them after the provider, so I'm going to guess you're trying to do the same. If so, if you've already got the name in use but it doesbn't work, it will still conflict, so either change the name slightly or delete the existing one.

Let us know if that makes a difference!

Also, with the red "G" sign, can yoiu confirm where you're seeing this, and if this is what you usually see when connected to a GPRS signal (A capital G in a box, as opposed to a "3G" in a box for 3G. Also, do you have any other issues when connecting for any other opurposes, such as the internet or sending texts?

Samsung Blade - Help Setting Up Email on Handset

I have renamed the connection bu adding a number 1 at the end but still fails at step 21. The drop down boxes for home url and proxy address are blank - is that correct?

I have a small blue 3G symbol at top left of my main screen which goes red and flasjes when the phone is checking the connection but goes back to blu immediate I get the fail message

Internet works and so does texting. I could acess my mail via the web but that has now failed since I tried to set up via my imessaging inbox. Should I just reset the phone and give up?

Hi Lymond,

Once you have set up the new connection and you select save you will be returned to the list where you will need to select the new connection that you have made.

Once this is selected it will then default back to the email screen for you to create the new email profile from step 23.

To make sure that the email works correctly, you will need to make sure that you are using the correct incoming and outgoing mail servers and port numbers.

Incoming mail server:Mail.btinternet.com
port: 110
outgoing mail server: send.vodafone.net
Port:25

Don't give up, we're nearly there. let us know how you get on.
