Re: Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Tiny Review:

Did post this last night and it didnt get added, was on vodafone at the time, so there you go!

Galaxy Nexus 3

Unbranded

Home Toased Rom

Screen

NOT as good as my SG2 handsets, but Google/Samsung DID have the choice of fitting the plus screen into the GN3 pre-production!

Camera -

No probs, pixels and prints more than good enough

Wifi -

Blazingly fast compared to a SG2, weird but true

Case Heat -

Hardly any compared to all my other smarties

Battery -

Stock rom - 21 hours flat out all on single charge

Toasted rom - 23.5 hours flat our on single charge

ICS4 -

Mmmm now this is odd, SG2 next to it, running same apps, start up sequences, etc seems faster

Maps -

WOW! super fast, no lag, quicker to load than one of my 8 cores on a 40mb line, very optimized - LOVE IT!

Errors / Reported Rom faults

Have had NO errors on the stock rom, have had no errors on the toasted rom - so no errors on volume or reboot etc

Overall

Cannot give a full overview, as waiting on 2 more GN3's from VF to arrive (yawn!) so will be running a few tests with the stock rom GN3 from VF and the home toasted GN3 rom I have made

However...

Apart from the screen not looking so good in sunlight and a bit dull in dark clubs / rooms etc...

Can honestly say the Galaxy Nexus 3 BLOWS everything out of the water, currently on the market, with quad core APM chips going into some smarties in feb2012, which in all honestly, apart from serious mobile gamers needs, is a tad overkill, there is no reason NOT to buy the best smartie out there guys and gals...

Subject to VF letting you have one :smileyhappy:

There's no such thing as the Nexus 3 :smileywink:

And custom ROMs tend to be 'baked' by a Chef - not toasted :smileywink:

I'm being a little pedantic but meh! :smileyvery-happy:

HTC One X (S720e)
ROM: 3.14.401.31 (JRO03C)
HBOOT: 1.39.0000 | Recovery: Stock
Radio: 5.1204.162.29 | Kernel: Stock

Re: Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Was about to mention the GN3 thing again :smileyhappy:

It's a Nexus series phone not an 'S' Series phone.

I don't own an S2 but I'm blown away with how good the screen is on the GN

hehehe

well i like simple math

google nexus one - first google nexus i got

google nexus s - second google nexus i got

google nexus galaxy samsung prime megatron - third nexus i got

so...

GN3! plus its easier to type!

i like toasting as its lighter than baking, rip the ###### out the rom you do not need and no need to over cook it :-)

shame the mods are not allowed to be a bit pedantic buddy, would be more fun than just moaning at them all the time LOL

Re: Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Has anyone been successful using the 'My Vodafone' app on the GN? The doesn't retrieve my details and keeps crashing - I presume it's an ICS compatibility issue.

Re: Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I brought that up in another thread.

NABS informed me that it won't show your details until after the first bill is produced (even though on line it shows everything current)

As for the crashing, it will be the app needs tweaking for ics

I've gone with G-Nex myself. It might sound like a 2nd rate rapper, but I'm going with it anyway :smileyhappy:

Re: Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Anyone know any decent case stockists for this phone? I currently use a lined leather slide in/out case with a pull tab on Galaxy S and would like something similar if possible.

Re: Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Is any one else having these two issues?
1. When viewing a light grey screen like this one on the forum they can see very feint lines / its grainy?
2. When viewing pics youve taken in gallery the seem to display and then take a split aecond extra to display the colours properly. Difficult to explain. Its like they are first displayed with a filter on them which is removed block by block .

Re: Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Got mine yesterday, and its great. Just changed from an iphone 3G and I love android so far (of course my iphone was pretty out of date I guess). The only thing thats annoyed me (and I've seen someone else mention this somewhere) is the download failure every time the screen turns off - very annoying for big files, you just have to sit there watching it. Hopefully a software bug that will be fixed.

@dangerm0uth: Just had a look at the pictures in the gallery, they look fine although they do change slightly after loading - they just seem to get a bit sharper.

Re: Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I don't have either of these issues.  I have just closely inspected light greys and other colours on the screen without any lines or grains.

I have also repreatedly opened and closed images from my galery with nothing like what you are talking about, just insant opening of the images actually.

Re: Samsung Galaxy Nexus

The grainy whites and greys on low brightness settings are normal for this phone due to the type of screen used.

The AMOLED screen uses organic diodes which have more noise than a LCD screen so in low brightness your eyes are able to see the noise of each diode but on a higher or maximum brightness your eyes can't see the noise.

It is only really a minor issue because the AMOLED screen trumps over everything in terms of colour vibrancy, saturation, contrast and deep blacks.
