Re: Samsung Galaxy S - Cannot sync anything with Kies

So - is there any official response to being able to use kies or update my firmware without invalidating it?

Is there a timeline on a resolution?

I've contacted Samsung and will visit a repair centre tonight, but I have to say that I'm moderately phone savvy, and goign to a repair centre to upgrade firmware is plain wrong.

I'm not blaming Samsung or Vodafone, but this is the last time I buy a Samsung.  Nexus S - forget it.

I can see that the community have given you a few suggestions (Thanks :smileyhappy:. Have you managed to try any of these?

You can find the latest Vodafone approved firmware for your phone on our Software Upgrades page :smileyhappy:.

Re: Samsung Galaxy S - Cannot sync anything with Kies

If you use kies to do a update eg the Kies hack this puts Samsung firmware on this does not void your two year warranty, this is the only one that is worth anything.
The Vodafone one means nothing as all they do is send it for repair any how but if it is beyond repair they swop it for a graded phone FACT!!!
were as Samsung will give you a new one

Now here is the but if you took out the Vodafone insurance then you need to go through them so it does not void that

Also you said that you got a NEXUS S i hope you mean Galaxy S

Re: Samsung Galaxy S - Cannot sync anything with Kies

Hi gebster and welcome along to the eforum!

With regards to Kies, I wouldn't be surprised if this piece of software is scrapped by samsung. It's very unstable and basically a disgrace. So many people have had problems with it.

I think Samsung's futuret updates will be done over the air. I'm currently running the updated Froyo 2.2.1 and this option is currently built in so I would imagine that this is Samsungs next move. For updates I now use Odin as it's much more stable and safer in my opinion.

I had to read this a phew times

The Keypad in the dialer bit simulates how a older phone looked and as you said holding activates the speed dial options

Now are you wanting to use this for txt messaging ?

Re: Samsung Galaxy S - Cannot sync anything with Kies

I am having exactly the same problem as everyone else. I totally agree with the post that states Vodafone should take this up with Samsung. Vodaphone sold me this crap, none working phone so they should sort it out.

I am a loyal customer yet I have to do all the leg work on a 'not fit for purpose' handset that Vodafone have sold me!

I wouldn't recommend Samsung to anyone and i certainly wouldn't recommend Vodafone to anyone - I'm just gutted I signed a 24 month contract over a completely useless phone!

@matthawley

What version of windows are you using?

If it's Win 7 64bit then try this...

Goto > Menu > Settings > Applications and turn on USB debugging.

Try connecting the phone again, does it connect now?
