Samsung Galaxy S - FroYo (Android 2.2) for Vodafone branded handsets is out now

For some reason, when I try and do an update it first says device is in use? (It's not) then comes up with the firmwire upgrade box saying current version JM3 latest version JP5, then as it starts to upload to says that have insufficient battery power even though I'm on 99%?, any ideas?

Samsung Galaxy S - FroYo (Android 2.2) for Vodafone branded handsets is out now

I have just received my SMS of the Froyo update.

I checked the message about what is in the update.

I would firstly like to thank Vodafone as the update will apparently remove the start up and shutdown animations. The trial games and the 360 services and the option to re-install if you want.

Thank you.

Just a point - remember it was Vodafone who placed these things on your phone in the first place, the thanks should go to people who banged on at them, ado28 and NDJ and all the rest. Without them you would be having a less than enjoyable froyo experience.

Down load a back up program and back the apps up any you have paid for or installed from the market are safe

But unistall all roots and lag fixes they are not compatible with 2.2 you can down load a new one after

cool. I take it KIES does not backup your apps then? Infact I think it does

Thats crazy installation logic from Google/Samsung that major firmware updates could mean you lose your apps. really bad user experience.

Just tried the hack I used to debrand the handset and install Eclaire 2.1 JM1. Hasn't worked. Kies is still picking up the device software revisions as JM1.

Kies upgrades...never straight forward.

indeed, but they have now sorted it. I think that at least deserves a thanks.

I don't think they handled the situation well by not communicating well enough with the user base affected by the desicions made by vodafone to force bloatware on devices which in turn were breaching their terms and conditions for the 360 services.

I also didn't like how this coincidently was released with the earlier versions of Froyo on other devices. Their roll out plan for updating customers devices had elements of sneakiness about it. Which I didn't like at all. Customers downloading the update under the impression that it was Froyo and yes, I do believe that is the only way you can say it happened, even if they didn't tell us it was, it was released on the same day as Froyo on all other devices. Sneaky is about as nice as I can put it.

However, I hope they have learnt lessons and a thank you is deserved.

Samsung Galaxy S - FroYo (Android 2.2) for Vodafone branded handsets is out now

Ndj, Mick, myself and a few others fought for EVERYONE who owns a Galaxy S. If we didn't keep up a presence on here and facebook then the Galaxy S would still be loaded with bloatware.

For me personally I didn't have to fight the cause because I took matters into my own hands and got rid of the bloatware very early on but if I had just kept my mouth shut then that would have been one less voice in fighting the battle against Vodafone.

The eforum team are the face and voice of Vodafone because they are in most cases the first point of contact with the customer. The eforum team weren't too helpful, by that I mean they didn't come across with the answers we were asking them for. They made lots of copy and paste statements and gave us reassurance that they would keep us fully updated in the update which I can confirm they Didn't.

If any of the eforum team were to call me up I can confirm that I would be pleasant and polite to them. Just because I have vented my anger and opinion doesn't mean to say that I'm only here to cause trouble. The one's causing trouble are the late comers who started having a pop at the guys like myself who fought for the cause. These idiots probably don't even own Galaxy's anyway and it wouldn't surprise me if they were in fact vodafone employees.

My aim and goal is to be part of a community that I share an interest in and if I can help people along the way like I have been doing since day 1 then that will do for me.

Thanks mate, I for one appreciate the help you guys provide...

are you running the latest version of Kies? if so then you need to remove it totally along with the files it leaves behind and install an older version. The other option you have it to flash over vis Odin

No one disagrees with that, and both myself and v.t have been here quite a while, so its not just the newbies that made the comment.

I'd also like to state categorically that I have no issues with anyone here, just some of the comments, or I guess the way they are being put across, seem a bit over the top.

For me personally I didn't have to fight the cause because I took matters into my own hands and got rid of the bloatware very early on but if I had just kept my mouth shut then that would have been one less voice in fighting the battle against Vodafone.

Likewise with regarding to not having to get involved, I am one of the lucky ones with a genuinely unbranded VF handset. However, I still contacted all the blog and technology sites to pass on my disgust with Vodafone regarding the timing, content and response to the whole situation.

Yet the flip side of that argument is they can only tell us what they are allowed to by Vodafone. v.t verified that from his conversation with one of the moderators. Northern.dj has also proven the Directors Office don't have a clue whats happening, yet its ok to constantly have a go at the moderators ?

Slagging off the moderators is no different to yelling at the dispatch staff on the rail platforms, or yelling at the ground staff at the airport when there is a delay. Yes they are the face of the company, yes they are your contact point, but its not them personally causing the problem, and 90% of the time they have less idea of what's going on than we do!

Just because I have vented my anger and opinion doesn't mean to say that I'm only here to cause trouble.

I don't think anyone suggested that - its the belittling and slagging off the moderators that I find unfair. By all means have a go at Vodafone - they deserve it!

Rather than calling the moderators names for moderating the forum, have a go at Vodafone over its forum policies. Rather than calling Tom names for reposting what's already been posted, contact the Directors office and ask why there is no statement about the faulty firmware available on the Vodafone website, etc etc.

My aim and goal is to be part of a community that I share an interest in and if I can help people along the way like I have been doing since day 1 then that will do for me.

Indeed, and no one suggested you stop that, least of all me. Its just cutting the moderators some slack for doing their job - their hands are often tied more than you know - especially when they are the voice of the company, as you quite rightly point out.

Some of the forums I frequent you will be banned just for questioning the moderation, so its not all bad here

Sneaky is a very good description.

Let's hope lessons have been learned and that no sneakiness happens at the next update!

I would like to say a massive thank you to people like VT Ndj and ADO28

I am sorry if I have missed others out but the above named guys have spent hours on this forum helping, the not so techy guys out, like me.

I have watched these guys repeating post after post. All to help people get there phones sorted.

If you have just come on here and started to post ANYTHING against these guys then I am afraid you are a fool, that needs to go back to the begining and read all there posts.

They dont even get paid. So from me THANKS GUYS and I hpe you keep up the good work

Regards John

Look Dave, you are coming across as a do-gooder and a bum licker so best to stop picking arguments apart for your own diagnosis. The fight is over OK so let that be an end to it and move on instead of tearing what's been said apart. If your not happy how the situation was handled then I'm sorry for you.

Move on and get over it.
