Hi chaps this seems to have been "highjacked"
my question WAS can i use the Sat Nav (the pre installed on) without using data, like my Nokia 5230 which can run only via GPS or with the A-gps which uses data..............
A-GPS uses jot all data but yes, you can switch it off in the settings (Locations & Security > Use wirless networks). GPS locks however might take slightly longer.
HOWEVER
Google Maps is next to useless without a data connection unless its already cached the maps needed previously. Although supposedly when you plan the route it will pre-cache enough information for your route. There isn't however any easy way to preload entire regions worth of maps for Google Maps like you can on Nokia Maps.
Hence the recommendation that if you want a maps solution that doesn't need at least occasional data connection then Google Maps IS NOT the answer.

Hey Vantage
I just started the Navigation that comes with the device, I had my wifi connected so the maps came up on the navigation.
I turned my wifi off and the maps stopped loading, which would suggest that google maps would be downloaded as you went, thus using data.

You asked is it possible to use sat nave, and we have answered and told you which one is best.
no were does it mention Google navigation if it did we would of helped you with that so this thread has not been high jacked.
You can offend people that have taken the time to help you.
