Samsung Monte - Gps and map problems.

Hi first post

Having issues with the GPS and Google maps. It worked once right at the start. Can not remember how or what I did, it found me and my position.

I did a master reset because I could not get WAP on contract, found out I had to program new settings in.

Since the reset it never found my position only the 1600 meters from my location, but now no maps, I previously could get street maps and sat view and scroll around the maps with map refersh.

I have tried different network connections to either WIFI of WAP nothing. Map version 3.0.2.

Did a map reset and now nothing but a error message about network unavailable for data connection, please contact you carrier.

The response of the touch screen is very slow as well, like 60 seconds to do anything.

Please advise

Samsung Monte - Gps and map problems.

Update. If I start WIFI manually it has downloaded the maps, and an updated GPS position, I dont have a GPS+ option in the settings, but it does find sats.

So why does this not work on WAP? or auto WIFI? like the other widgets?

Hi Jaz4,

When it comes to MAPS and GPS there are two sides of this.

You will mainly only use WAP to download the Maps however, it will also use this when using Assisted GPS (A-GPS).

From time to time your positioning can be a little out depending on satellites and how far you are from the local cell sites etc.

Are you able to connect to the internet using WAP connection?

Providing you are using Google maps V3.0 you shouldn't have any difficulty using these functions, I would try a battery pull to reset the phone again and if this continues to work then it may need sending for repair.

I can use the web or google search via WAP or WIFI, but google maps does not want to know.

It only works if I turn on WIFI manually and then select google maps, but this will be ponitless away from home.

I have tried the battery out and reset, and even reset the maps, no joy, only works with turning wifi on, like the blue tooth command.

Widget network connection either wifi or wap

when running 3.0.2 I get data connection lost retrying.

Hi Jaz4,

Hmm, this is strange, can i ask if you have any other applications running at the same time or if you are just using Maps.

As this is still happening the only thing that I could suggest would be to send the phone for repair as it seems to be a fault with the physical hardware.

SO Im not the only one.

WIFI I can get a connection and maps upload,
WAP simply says connection lost. I have bundled WAP data and is set up on other apps.

Hi Jaz4

How good is the signal in your area? Could you tell me your full postcode and I'll be able to take a look at this.

Have you been able to try this in a full 3G area?

Also, can you change the APN that the app uses from WAP to Internet. This should help get things working if it isnt a signal issue.

Thanks

Wayne

Wayne

thanks for the reply

Yes (I think)

Network settings for BOTH apps (under settings) and widget (widget settings) both set on WAP

Run google little world icon displays and I can serf
Run Google maps says data connection lost. Rest maps now says network unavailable contact your carrier

Manually start WIFI
Little wifi icon running
Google maps runs

Turn Wifi off
Deleted WIFI connections
Google maps Network unavailable

If the Monte is anything like the Genio Slide, Google Maps doesn't use the generic apps. connection profile, or the widgets profile, it uses the Exchange Active Sync's connection profile.

Hi jaz4

Did you try and change the settings to internet?

The problem that you are having is when you need to connect to the network, not WiFi. The WiFi side of things we cannot control as it doesn't run through the network.

We need to get the issue of connecting to this correct when not using Wifi resolved.

If you can change from WAP to internet in the internet settings, this should help in you connecting

Thanks

Hi jaz4

It looks like I'll need to test this, as I'm not sure of the settings on the Monte, I don't have access to the device at present, however soon as I do, I'll be back to update you :).

Hi Jaz4,

This is really getting confusing! What version of firmware are you on? We may need to get this raised as a fault. Can you try a master reset? Backup your data and give this a go. If we can't get this working, there may be some sort of inherent glitch with the software that may need a repair - I haven't a clue why it's stopped working, but one way or another we'll get to the bottom of things for you!

Keep us updated,

Daz

Hi Jaz4 Thanks for your post here

If all of your contacts have disappeared then chances are, the factory reset has worked. (I'm sorry to hear that you have lost your contacts though :( )

To find out your software level you just need to :-

Touch Keypad
Enter *#1234#
The software version will be displayed, touch Confirm.

Please let me know and we'll get this raised for you :)

Thanks

Hi Jas,

You appear to be running the original launch version of the firmware. There have been a couple of updates since this was released. Please update your phone to the latest available firmware via Kies, which you can download here.

Would love to, I have windows 7 and Kies does not want to update. Infact the whole package does not seem to work very well, contacts do not seem to save either on the PC or on the monte.

The website does not have a link to a new firmaware.
