Samsung Monte - MMS messages sending but not receiving

I recently sent an MMS message to someone in my 'Contacts' who confirms that they received it. However, the picture message they sent in reply has not been received by me - not even a text message asking me to visit 'get my photo', like I used to get on my old phone. The phone is set up to 'Auto Download' on the home network so I can't understand why this is not being received. Any suggestions?

Do you have difficulties receiving MMS from other contacts or in the past and have you checked that your friend has the correct contact number for you?

 

Please ensure that your device device is configured for MMS.

 

1.Touch Menu
2.Touch Messages
3.Scroll to and touch Settings
4.Touch MMS
5.Touch MMS profiles
6.Touch Create
7.Touch the field under Set name
8.Touch the left pointing arrow to delete text already present (e.g. Connection 01)
9.Enter Vodafone MMS, touch Done
10. Touch the drop-down below Bearer type
11. Touch Packet data
12. Touch the field under Access name
13. Enter:
For Pay monthly customers: wap.vodafone.co.uk
For Pay as you go customers: pp.vodafone.co.uk
14. Touch Done
15.Scroll to and touch the drop-down arrow below Auth type
16. Touch Normal
17. Touch the field under User ID
18. Enter wap, touch Done
19.Scroll to and touch the field under Password
20. Enter wap, touch Done
21.Scroll to and touch the drop-down arrow under Protocol
22. Touch HTTP
23.Scroll to and touch the field under Home URL
24. Enter http://mms.vodafone.co.uk/servlets/mms, touch Done
25.Scroll to and touch the field under Proxy address
26. Enter 212.183.137.012:8799, touch Done
27. Touch Save
28. Touch Vodafone MMS.

Hi, thanks for your reply. This is actually the first MMS message anyone has ever sent me, so I can't comment on whether I've had a problem before. Also, I know my friend has the correct number for me, as I do receive SMS messages from them. And in answer to your final point, my settings are correct - surely I would have had a problem sending a message as well, but that does not appear to be the case! Do you have any other ideas? I don't really want to ask them to send it again as that will cost them money.

Can you confirm that the other person is able to send to someone else. It may be that MMS is not working for them, and nothing to do with you or your phone?

Hi

 

I have checked, and my friend has confirmed that they do not usually have problems sending MMS messages to other people.

 

However, under normal circumstances, how should I receive these types of message? As I've got the phone set to "Auto Download" should it just appear in my 'Inbox' like an SMS? The reason I ask is because obviously you can set the phone to 'Manual' download and I wondered how the messages would be received in those circumstances - would you have to connect to the server for the phone to download any waiting messages?

 

I should point out that I did actually ask for a delivery report to be returned when I sent my original MMS message but this has never been received either. Is there a way of finding out whether the delivery report and message are actually waiting to be downloaded from the server?

 

Any further assistance or advice on what the problem is would be much appreciated as always.

I don't think MMS works when you are using WiFi. Can you make sure the phone is using 3g and try receiving the Picture Message again.

Thanks for the update. OK, well, I haven't been using the phone on Wi-Fi anyway, but where I live is only in a 2G area so that might explain it. However, I have used my phone in areas where there is a 3G signal since the message was sent to me, and this hasn't made any difference.

 

Like I said in my previous post, I don't know how to "try receiving the message", so would like clarification on that point. Do I have to connect to the server for the message to be downloaded? If so, how do I do this?

 

Also, while my phone is fairly new, the SIM card is quite old, so could this be the reason - can older SIM cards not handle MMS messages?

 

Can anyone please provide some answers to these questions.

I've seen this a few times in the Galaxy S II Boards.

 

An older SIM card can seem to stop MMS from working. So first thing to do is pop into your local Vodafone store and get a free replacement SIM.

While you are there get them to check that MMS is fully active on your account.

Hi, thanks for your help, as I took your advice and got a new SIM card. I have since been able to successfully receive an MMS message! Just one final question - is it possible to save the picture I've received on to my phone as I can't seem to find a way to do this?

I'm not sure on the Monte, but if you long press on the photo does a menu pop up? It may give you the option to save or download?

Hi. Unfortunately, I've tried that already, as I know that's how you can save pictures from the web, but no menu appears. I also tried pressing it twice to see if that made a difference but it seems not. Any other suggestions?

Go to your MMS, tap on the Message, then select "Attached Items".

Choose the location you want to save to.

Then select the picture you want to save.

 

Hopefully this will work for you?
