Samsung Monte - Not displaying photos correctly

Hi

I have recently copied some photos to my Samsung Monte that I already had stored on my PC. While the majority of them display correctly on the phone, some of them just show a screen with a silhouette of someone's face and a lightning bolt (trust me, it sounds crazy but that's what it is!).

I use a SDHC memory card to store photos on my phone, and thinking it might be a problem with that, moved the photos in question to the phone's memory. However, that made no difference.

Please can someone advise why these pictures won't display correctly? They are all JPEG images and are not particularly large files, or high resolution photos - in fact they are no different from most of the other ones already on the phone! Also, they can all be viewed without any problem on my PC.

Any assistance would be much appreciated. Many thanks.

Re: Samsung Monte - Not displaying photos correctly

How long are the image names? Some images downloaded from websites can have a very long series of numbers and letters infront of the .jpg.

The phones file system may be struggling to handle the long names and so produces a broken file image.

If the images originally came from the Phone then to the PC, then back to the Phone. Try putting them into the DCIM Folder on the Phone.

Hope that helps?

Re: Samsung Monte - Not displaying photos correctly

Hi

Thanks for your quick reply. However, I don't think it has anything to do with the length of the filenames. I have other photos already stored on my phone that have longer names, and they display without any problem.

The photos were not originally on the phone, so I'm not sure your second suggestion would help. I'm not even sure if I've got a DCIM folder, as I can't see anything with this title.

The only thing that I thought may be a possible reason for this, is that the photos are quite small in size (i.e. height/width), but the file sizes are larger than other ones. Does this mean they are of a higher resolution, and could that be why the phone is struggling to display them?

Re: Samsung Monte - Not displaying photos correctly

Were the pictures originally a different format i.e. PNG, then converted to jpg?

Are the images from a particular Software program?

Some software can save as there own jpeg format such as... image.arc.jpg So although it's a JPEG, it is a unique format to that particular program.

When you say very small images, are you talking about a Favicon .ico file?

You could always open each image in Microsoft Paint on your PC and Save As .jpg again. If the file is corrupt this should reasign the correct attribute.

Re: Samsung Monte - Not displaying photos correctly

Hi, and thanks again.

No these photos were not converted from a different format nor were they saved using a particular software program.

When I mentioned that these were small files I wasn't talking about .ico files as you have suggested. I'd just noticed that they were small in terms of height/width (150 x 200) but larger in terms of filesize (about 27K). I just wondered if this meant that the resolution was higher and that this was causing the problem. If so, can anything be done?

Re: Samsung Monte - Not displaying photos correctly

Hi andym38

I must say I'm running out of ideas... :smileysad:

As no one else has jumped in here I'm loathed to leave you with an un-answered question.

Would you be able to attach one of your pictures to a post here? I could then place it on my Galaxy S to see if the problem can be replicated or not?

Hi andym38,

I think TSD is spot on here and we need to do a bit of testing to see if it can be replicated.

Can you upload a photo that you are having issues with and we will be able to test this for you.

Its better if you upload a photo as this will mean that we are both looking at doing the same with the same sized picture etc.

Re: Samsung Monte - Not displaying photos correctly

Not sure if that's necessary now, as my mate's got a Galaxy S so I tried one of the photos on his phone. It seemed to be OK so that suggests it is an issue with my phone. Perhaps it can't cope with these images for some reason. Do you know if anyone else has had the same issue?

Re: Samsung Monte - Not displaying photos correctly

Hi andym38

Thank you for your posts.:smileyhappy:

The reason we ask for the image is so we can replicate the issue and perform an investigation here to find a resolution.

Please can you ensure you are running the latest approved software for your device and that all your information is backed up which you can find step by step guides on the Help Centre.

Alternatively you could take the device to your local store and one of our experts will be able to take a look and advise you of your best options or alternatively we can arrange a postal repair.

Many Thanks
