Time to renew my phone/contract - why is Vodafone more than other re-sellers?

My contract is coming to an end in September so have started looking around for a phone early.

After a bit of sniffing around I thought a Galaxy SII would be fun so looked at the prices and was a little shocked....

So the question is why is Vodafone so much more than Carphonewarehouse or Tescos? They are offering an Galay SII for £30/month with 500mins/unlimited txts/500mb on the Vodafone network, and the closest Vodafone gets is £31....but they want £199 extra for the handset!

Anyone know why?

(And the saddest thing is, I use about 15mins talktime and send 50 odd txts)

Cheers

Its a buyers market buddy, put your findings to VF and if they don't want to match it then go elsewhere. Tip: the ASDA network is cheap and piggy backet off the VF network :smileywink:

[ Edited ]

Vodafone customer service is excellent (apart from updates for firmware).  I upgraded my phone to a Galaxy S2 (free phone), 600mins, Unlimited texts, 1Gb of Data, free vodafone to vodafone calls and Vodafone Passport for £25.54/month (inc VAT)

Personally I can't fault that, and it seems like everytime I call them they offer me something extra.

Also, I am going to Spain in June and have taken out Vodafone data traveler for a month at a cost of £10, which gives me 25Mb of data in Europe per day.

I was thinking of leaving to go to O2, but I really do like the service and features that Vodafone offers.

Re: Time to renew my phone/contract - why is Vodafone more than other re-sellers?

25mb that's not a lot My brother in Germany is on Unlimited all and pays 40 euros but that is a Air force rate but its a German Network and they look after the UK Forces better the UK companies do

As Ado28 said its a Buyers market.

But if your going to leave you need to give them 30 days Notice before your contract ends email them and do it over the phone so they can not riggle out of it. My next door to me  did this and three day before the contract was due to end she got a call from the cancellation department asking why she was leaving and she did not hold back. she now has a Desire S and on a 12 mounth contract and she is now happy.

If you complain on here the Eforum team will want you to email them as they don't like airing there washing on here

If Vodafone improved there customer service then every one would be happy

Hopefully someone on the Eforum team on here will read you post and offer to contact you.

They seem to be able to offer deals which are not available elsewhere, and can usually match, if not beat, deals from some of the 'independants'.

Good Luck! :smileyhappy:

Re: Time to renew my phone/contract - why is Vodafone more than other re-sellers?

Seems like there have been a few deals brokered here that far exceed the advertised prices ......

I particulary liked this one.....

"I upgraded my phone to a Galaxy S2 (free phone), 600mins, Unlimited texts, 1Gb of Data, free vodafone to vodafone calls and Vodafone Passport for £25.54/month (inc VAT)"

If anyone wants to contact me with a similar deal I would certainly be interested!:smileywink:

so what he is saying is Vodafone don't care if you stay or not

My last update they only offered me a HTC legand as a upgrade on a Top spec samsung phone, When we want a upgrade its the phone were upgrading not the network.

When the get in touch they look at what your paying a Mounth now with me as i had payed for my phone my contracr was reduced down to £20 a Mounth, so this is what they look at, and not what you had or can aford they refused to give me the phone i wanted so i contacted customer service who did the deal, they don't work on comossion

What you have to bare in mind is Vodafone need to make money on the deal, But they get the phone alot cheap then we do

You need to shop around but Vodafone need to look after there customers.

My wifes deal £30 a mounth 5000 free txts 1000 mins call time and unlimited internet plus a HTC Desire HD Vodafone could not touch it, she has also got my son's Samsung galaxy ace for £20 a mounth caped to 600mins call time 2000 txts and unlimited internet.

Network coverage is not as important as it was were i am in a 3g hotspot i have had shocking problems my wife has been on 3 and has had no problems. They do Bloat there phones up but you can unistall all there apps.

One thing that lets Vodafone down is there internet as more apps coming out need and use 3g just one day of streaming internet radio can use a gig a day easy were getting punished for what the doggle lot did

Plus there scared if they went unlimited there network would not hack it

when i started with Vodafone i had no data plane, Never needed it but i could do a add on for a mounth for £7.95 so when i was away on holiday i could use the phone as a tether. I used about 3 Gig

So shop around and Tell them if they don't come up with a deal and they can then your walking away

Make sure you give them 30 days notice by phone and email

£30 for 600 mins, 500 texts and and unlimited internet over 18 months with handset costing £19.99 is widely available on the internet if people do a bit of searching.

People should exploit the free market with their negotiations.

That's very interesting as during the past year and a half I've paid VF an average of over £200 a month and on 1 occasion over £500, as well as bringing them a number of new contracts. VF recently lost my 2 most expensive contracts to another network as the offers made to renew or upgrade these were insulting. This is despite me still having another 4 contracts remaining and many of these being with VF for as long as I can remember. Admittedly the upgrade offers for the 2 that left weren't done through the web relations team but an offer that was made to upgrade my contract early through them wasn't that impressive. Have more coming up for renewal later in the year, will see what happens then.

Re: Time to renew my phone/contract - why is Vodafone more than other re-sellers?

well the company i deal  with has handed it over to me to sort contracts out. We think we get ripped off Buisness users get well ripped off.

Strange as it may seem VF do well but the internet lets them down. Buisneses need unlimited internet not for facebook or youtube but VPN and Video confrensing

But as frostfree found £19.99 that a steel so it does pay to look around and don't belive what the pearson from VF says when they ring you

Re: Time to renew my phone/contract - why is Vodafone more than other re-sellers?

I wish you all the best.  I have been banging on to vodafone for weeks and they won't budge.  I have been with vodafone since about 2008 (2 handsets).  I have just reduced from a £40 pm contract for both phones as we do not use that much.  I have seen the phone with dialaphone for £89 whereas vodafone insist they want £199.  If I go for that I will need to leave vodafone or get a different number as you can't get a PAC for the same network.  I have a business contract.

It's like they want you to go.  I have asked for a PAC but they have confirmed I will not get a call from retentions as they cannot better the deal they have offered me.  That, of course, is tosh as thye have offered much better deals to guys on here.  It must either be a case of "who you know" or "he who shouts the loudest"

My wife's contract is up on 5 July.  Not long to go for Voidafone to try and keep me but I doubt they will.  What is one whinger leaving,

Wyn

One day I will learn how to edit these posts.  Been with Vodafone since 2006.  That's 5 years which in the mobile phone business is very long I'm told.

frostfree can you tell more?  That's a helluva deal.  is this on the vodafone network?  Even O2 would do but it's no good on T Mobile or 3 as the coverage is pants.

Re: Time to renew my phone/contract - why is Vodafone more than other re-sellers?

In my experience it is the guys (and girls!) on the web relations team on here who seem to be able the best deals at the moment.

They give the impression that they are trying that little bit harder to keep their existing customers happy than some of the other 'departments' within Vodafone.

At one time it always seemed to be 'Retentions' who had the best deals on offer, but that doesn't seem to be the case any more.

As I said, that is just my personal opinion, and others may well have different experiences.
