Re: help with 2.2 update

No vodafone haven't stopped you receiving updates.

Kies decides what update to offer you according to the product code of your phone. But it sounds like you do have a vodafone product code.
You can double check by entering this code into your phone.
*2767*4387264636#

It sounds like you have managed to connect to Kies successfully and it is working correctly and communicating with the Samsung Servers. It's just that there is no update available at this time.
This could be just temporary so you might want to keep trying.
or it might be that they have withdrawn it for some reason.

You can also forget Kies and use odin to manually flash your phone instead by downloading the firmware from one of the links in our resource board.

Re: help with 2.2 update

Hi Lightsabr, welcome along to the eforum. It sounds like your kies and drivers needs either updated. To to Samsung mobile and download the latest version of kies. Before you upgrade check that your 3 button recovery works by pressing vol + , Home key and power button all at once. If your phone boots up in recovery mode just press the home key to continue boot up. If your phone can't do this then I would advise taking it to a vodafone shop to get them to update it on your behalf but if your tech minded then read this forum along with XDA Developers for some good advice on upgrading.

Hope this helps you out.

Re: help with 2.2 update

I agree with VT on this it sounds like those twits at Vodafone have messed this up if you do what Very_Tecnical has said and let us no what the device code is we can sort this for you. why did they send you a pre used phone and not repair your phone. I would of not touched a re-worked one.

Hi lightsabr,

Here lies your problem.

Vodafone have given you a handset with an unbranded vanilla product code. (same as mine)

The problem is, they have flashed it with their own vodafone branded firmware JM4

The two don't go together!

So Kies will not update you.

They really shouldn't have done that.

With your product code, you should have the associated vanilla firmware on it, then Kies would have updated you to froyo 2.2 version JPO.

You could try hacking Kies in the Windows Registry and see if that would trick Kies into thinking you have a vodafone handset. I'm not too sure.

I would recommend your best option is to use Odin and flash your phone manually.

Let me know what you want to do.

Re: help with 2.2 update

Given the complication of trying to get kies to work you would be much quicker upgrading via Odin like VT has mentioned. If you require any assistance with this then I'm sure there will be a few of us on hand to talk you through the process :smileyhappy: JP7 is the very latest [official] update from Vodafone however JPU which supersedes JPO [Samsung official ROM] has been leaked and there are a few of us in here who will vouch that it is the best ROM to date so this is the ROM which I would recommend!

Re: help with 2.2 update

The reg hack doesn't work with the new Kies, you would need to download an older version for it to work. In all honesty I would research on how to use Odin as this is the best and quickest way to upgrade firmware. If you still want to use Kies I will look out a guide I wrote up a while back on altering the old kies into thinking its the new one and show you how to hack the registry but like I say Odin is the tool for the job as its less messy if you know what I mean lol
