I Posted this in the pay as you go section but am wondering if maybe i should be posting in here, so apologises if i should not but i really need a reply asap :0)
I have been with you for a while and am a reg at asking questions over the last 5 or so years or so, knowing how great you guys are and also having gotten no sense from vodafone customer servies i was hoping you could help me on here :0)
I have a main contract with you guys on my phone samsung galaxy 2 but also have a pay as you go sim for my son in my name though ( which james retreived the number for me once when through lack of use the card expired).
Anyway i was wanting to prevent this happening again by changing it to a contract still with vodafone on pay monthly for my son i had been offered a deal with car phone warehouse on vodafone for a free samsung galaxy ace, 100 mins, 500 texts and 250mb of data a month for £15.50 over 24 months but there seems to be some confusion as to whether i can keep the said vodafone gold number my son already has on the payg simi bought my son if i do upgrade to this deal? Also when asked what would happen to his £6.38 of calling credit they said he would lose it :0( It just seems ludicrous when staying with vodafone but taking on a 24month contract i should lose the £6.38 that i have already paid for.
Is this all correct? Thanks so much in advance :0)
p.s my husband is also interested in the same kind of deal and wants to port over from orange his gold number is there a limit to how many vodafone contacts you can have in one household?

a very good question to ask, especially if you have not got any sensible answer elsewhere.
As far as I am aware, you can transfer a number from PAYG to contract, and keep the number, so the Gold number on PAYG should be safe to transfer to contract. Not sure of the process to follow on this, but you may need a PAC to transfer it across.
In respect to the credit on the PAYG number, again, I believe that that should be transferable over to the contract numbers bill, and appear as a credit, but as the last number I transferred from PAYG to contract was several years ago, I would not be able to say for certain.
For your husbands number, there should be no limit to how many Vodafone numbers you can have at one address, either on your account or on seperate accounts (I have 5 numbers at my address), as long as you pass the required credit vetting process to set the account up.
Hope this clears thigns up a little for you

But as i said my sons sim is vodafone pay as you go i was slightly worried that i'd not get to keep him number so fingers crossed it'll be ok but i have to admit to really resenting the idea of losing that £6.38 i know its not alot but still when its the same company its rediculous if they say it'll be lost.
The women from the car phone warehouse rang today she said she phoned vodafone and they said i would definatley lose the £6.38 so i could really do with some confirmation on this from a moderator pleaseeeeeee...
I wonder if i should try phoning vodafone myself or whether i would get much sence from them they have never been as good as the forums team of mods and staff connected to the forums :0)

One of the moderators may be along shortly, and I am more than positive that they would be able to give you the deifinitive answer on the question. If you want to get a quicker answer, you can try ringing the PAYG customer services team or your account customer services team who would be able to help. If you wanted to talk face-to-face with someone from Vodafone, you could always pop into your nearest Vodafone store.
If you don't know where it is, click the link below to search for it

Thanks for posting! I had seen your original post but noticed there were responses already in this thread so I thought it would be easier to keep all the information in one place.
I can confirm that any remaining credit on a Pay As You Go number when migrated over to pay monthly contract is indeed lost as the two accounting systems are separate and do not communicate with each other. Naturally we'll be only too happy to welcome the number onto the network so if you'd like to speak with one of my team about possible options for a discounted deal, simply reply tot he email I've sent down to you and we'll get back in touch.
Good to have you back actively on the forums and we appreciate your patience during this busy period.

Many thanks for the call back this am, look forward to hearing back from you when the phone comes back into stock :0)
I've held off on doing anything with my sons pay as you go sim on vodafone for now and will do it when i get a phone call from you saying its back in stock. But decided to start a contract for my husband through carphone warehouse on the vodafone monthly tarif so as to guarentee i can at least get and give that phone to my son for xmas, my husband said he would make do with the old phone untill y into stocou get them back in stock.
Unfortunatley my local vodafone store was out of stock too so i went to carphone warehouseI stupidly thinking this was one way round it and it would somehow go swimingly, rather then transfering the pay as you go number from vodafone to vodafone and losing the calling credit i would be porting my husbands orange pay as you go over to vodafone and opening a new contract still in my name tho :0)
Unfortunatley they could not port the number from orange, they said vodafone kept rejecting it saying its an expired pac code even tho it was only sent to me on the 13th dec, she (carphone warehouse lady ) even phoned orange twice but they insisted to her the pac code is still active and working and not expired and would not re issue a new pac code she said its a problem with vodafones system.
We had to leave the store with the phone and somehow we have to sort out with vodafone why its not porting :0( this is proving to be a nightmare :0(
I need to retain both numbers as they are gold numbers and have absolutely no idea why the orange one is showing as expired on the carphone warehouses system :0( if i can't get this resolved tomorrow with vodafone i may well have to take the phone back which will mean one very disapoiinted son :0(

One thing to add it may be possible to move the credit over to another vodafone simm card but that can only be done in a vodafone store now you would have to do that before doing anything with your contarct or as ben said you would loose it
If they ask why don't tell them your going to CPW just say your going on a simm only deal keeping your number
Oh you carn't add it to some one else it has to be a new number on a new simm card
