Internet issue - secure connection failure

I've been using the mobile browser to access Facebook and Twitter on my Zylo since I got it about a year and a half ago, and it was fine up until a week ago, when a message came up when I tried to connect to Facebook saying 'Communication failure - secure connection failure.' I could still access Twitter via the browser and both Facebook and Twitter through the widgets that came on the phone.

I tried clearing the cache, cookies, passwords and history to see if that would solve the problem - but instead not only could I not access Facebook, I could also no longer access Twitter via the browser or the widget. (The Twitter widget always used to come up with a message saying something like 'secure connection cannot be verified - continue anyway?' to which I could answer 'yes' and it would work. It doesn't do this any more.)

The Facebook widget still works, but since it's optimised for 3G and I live in the non-3G countryside, it's not much use!

I've done plenty of searching but haven't yet found a solution. I suppose it's something to do with the certificates - does anyone know of anything I could try to fix it?

Thanks!

Re: Internet issue - secure connection failure

Hi L5

Thanks for your post and welcome to the eForum :smileyhappy:

Have you updated any software on your handset recently as this may have affected the APN settings on your device for internet connection?

Also, are any other services affected other than Facebook or Twitter such as web browsing and other widgets that require a data connection? Do this only happen when connecting via the mobile network only or via Wi-Fi aswell?

Once we have this information we'll be in a better position to advise.

Thanks

Simon

Re: Internet issue - secure connection failure

Thanks for getting back to me!

I've never updated any software on the phone - according to PC Companion it's still up to date.

When it went wrong, in the morning Facebook worked fine, then I tried to access it again later the same day and it had stopped working. I can still access other sites such as Vodafone Live, Google, Wikipedia, and I can use TrackID, but nothing that requires a password - Facebook, Twitter, Goodreads, Hotmail.

As far as I'm aware my phone isn't Wifi enabled so this only seems to affect the mobile connection!

I know there's a list of certificates saved in the phone but I wouldn't have a clue what they relate to or if it's any of those that's the problem.

Thanks

L

Re: Internet issue - secure connection failure

Hi there L5,

What a strange issue!

Thanks for coming back to us and confirming you've not updated the software on your handset.

It would appear the the SSL certificates have been removed somehow. The bad news is that I don't have a Zylo in the office to test this for you. In that list of certificates, is SSL listed? If not then I can only assume that this is the source of the problem.

I'll list the configuration settings in the event that these may resolve it for you:

How to configure your device for Internet

1. Press “Menu”
2. Scroll to Settings, press “Select”
3. Scroll to Connectivity, press “Select”
4. Scroll to Internet settings, press “Select”
5. Scroll to Connect using, press “Select”
6. Press “Options”, scroll to Create new, press “Select”
7. Scroll to PS data, press “Select”
8. Scroll to Name, press “Edit”
9. Enter Vodafone Internet, press “OK”
10.Scroll to APN, press “Edit”
