Multi touch update

I just read that the new multi touch update for the xperia was out and I can't seem to get the new update, it says i have the newest software. I also tried updating it on the pc companion and it tells me the same thing.

Re: Multi touch update

Yeah, you've got to have Android 2.1 to use multitouch - and then you've got to have an X10, not a mini or mini-pro.  Just the fact that you need 2.1 scuppers the deal - there's no news whatsoever from Vodafone about when that's going to turn up.

Re: Multi touch update

Hey ykc91,

Thanks for the question regarding multi-touch on your X10.

Can you confirm for me the software version you are currently running? (*#0000# will tell you the software version.)

Cheers,

Lee

i can confirm that i have been in contact with sony themselves and they have said that the firmware update is available but depends when your netowrk provider releases the update.

Can anyone from vodafone please update us x10 users to when this will be as i have been through pc companion and seus and they both say that i am upto date

regards

Re: Multi touch update

The generic update is out in the UK now.  That means we are waiting on vodafone like we did for the 2.1 update.  Last time they had no idea when the update would be released.. i presume it's the same this time around?  I'm going to 02 for my next phone.

Re: Multi touch update

The X10 has 2.1 but the latest SE update will provide multi touch (of a sort) but will also remove the clever animation in Timescape, presume this is to free up more memory for the new update.

It's just a shame that I have to learn these things from unofficial websites as SE and Vodafone can't get their act together and get the updates out quickly. I'm fairly sure this will be my last SE phone, as it's not worth the high monthly cost for a phone that just doesn't work as it should, and that will not be getting the support it was promised by SE when released. I think most of what I'm saying is probably covered in other feeds on here, but hey, just having my say!

Re: Multi touch update

can anyone from vodafone confirm multitouch? Im not bothered when (im now used to waiting for updates months after everyone else!) but there was some confusion earlier in the year as to whether it was possible. i think xda devs found a multitouch folder in the root but others said it wasnt possible? thanks, J

Re: Multi touch update

I have the multi-touch update, only because I flashed my X10 to Global Generic 2.1. My advice would to be stay clear of it, for it has only made the X10 worse, force closing, apps take longer to start, the whole thing is just a lot slower. So God knows what the Vodafone version of the update would do to it.

I'lll be updating to a 2.2 custom ROM, possibly 2.3, soon. So, hopefully, all these errors will have been fixed. Don't believe what SE say, about 2.1 running better than 2.2 on the X10, because it's complete rubbish.

Re: Multi touch update

i haven't noticed any benefit from this update.  the phonebook looks slightly different and timescape now shows moxier mail.  if there is multi-touch, i haven't found out how to use it yet. there are also a few more service apps running in the background but it doesn't seem to be any slower than before.

anyone else found this update useful at all?

Re: Multi touch update

pinch zoom on Maps works fine (not sure how it's any easier than double tap), not worked out browser yet though.

oh yeah, there is VF software on there such as 360 and music shop that i can't uninstall like i could after the 2.1 update.

Re: Multi touch update

Ok then. i'll be staying clear of this update. I'm mostly satsifed with how my X10 is running on 2.1 anyway. Although if i want an Andoid phene next i will most likely avoid SE and go to HTC.

Re: Multi touch update

I have to disagree with some of the earlier comments and say this update is well worth it in my view. Pinch-Zoom works great in Maps and Browser (I use Dolphin).

It did reinstall the 360 ###### that I had  uninstalled after the 2.1 update, however I uninstalled it all again via application settings, powered down the phone, started it up again, and so far there's no sign of them reappearing.

Best thing though is I can now play PewPew properly!
