I also want to know the answer to this. I used to get a vibration and tone on my old 770i ( i think) but now my other half has my old phone and it is the one thing I really miss. I have set it up for SMS delivered so it gives the message but can't find a way to a sign a sound.

Please someone help.

Also where can you get free downloads of sounds / tones for the phone

Unfortunately I have been unable to gain access to a W715 to test this for you but the majority of handsets will give you the option to set up an SMS alert.

I have checked through the manual but unfortunately it does not give detailed instructions for this process. It does state the following

Message options

You can set some options, such as the
Message alert and default storage
location, to apply to all messages. You
can set other options, such as the
Delivery priority and Delivery time, for
each message you send.

To set options for all messages
1 From standby select Menu >
Messaging > Messages > Settings.
2 Scroll to an option and choose Select.

You may also be able to change the message alert by selecting the following options from the menu.

Menu > Settings > the Sounds & alerts tab

Give this a try a let us know how you get on.

Hi Andy thanks for your quick reply.
I have set up the message alert and default storage locations and the message delivery report. .... so i get a message to say it is delivered but no sound to go with it.

I have generally always had sony ericcsons and with the phones that I have had I have been able to assign a sound. It seems a little odd that I can't find out how to do it!!!!

Any further ideas????

It looks like the option to set the alert to Vibration is the only physical notification type, other than on-screen that can be set I'm afraid.

The Vibration alert only works for incoming SMS, not delivery reports!

OK, that's two items (so far) that are missing on this phone: 1) Audible confirmation of SMS delivery 2) No backlight control...Anybody spot any more yet?

I reckon we need some new firmware...

Hi saxmad and Ray M,

I had to re-check about the vibrate alert for delivery reports. I can confirm that you can indeed set the vibration alert for delivery reports.

To do this, simply follow the below steps:

settings
scroll right to sounds and alerts
scroll down to vibrating alert
set to 'on'

That should be all done for you.

As for a new firmware, I don't think SonyEricsson will develop a new firmware on the back of there being no backlight control, but if any are made available, then here will be the place to get it.

If you look at the User Guide on the SE website, you can see that there IS a backlight control on the original firmware - it's in the Organiser menu. It's only missing in the bastardized Vodafone version...why do VF insist on ruining perfectly good phones with this?

And to emphasise what saxmad2304 says - there is NO sound event associated with delivery reports!

Last night I was phoned by VF to check I was happy with my 'package'. Yes I am I said but not with a few aspects of the phone. Luckily I have 14 days ( but they are running out!) to change my mind about the phone. I said that I was in contact with VF forum and I have also emailed directly to SE - who kindly told me how to turn the report delivery on - which I knew. and did not tell me how to assign a sound OR even if that facility was available. I like the neatness of the phone.................. i just want the features of the other SE . I have written again to SE...............

Hope you get this message Ray M as I have solved the problem.

I contacted SE and eventually after several attempts at other ideas they had I did the following.

GO to http://www.sonyericsson.com/cws/support/so...lc=et&cc=ee and FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS TO DOWNLOAD AND REINSTALL THE SOFTWARE. I had to attached phone to computer / turn phone off / take battery out / put battery back in etc etc .

It did take a while but it WORKS>............ I now have a delivery report vibration and audible bleep.......... just like i had before....
i have tried it several times now.

So good luck.......have a try and let me know if it worked for you too.

I now get a strange little beep with the delivery report - better than nothing, but nowhere near as good as getting the same sound as SMS receipt!

No sign of a backlight control either...everything else seems OK though, nothing else broken.

I'm not entirely sure there is a Backlight control on this phone. I couldn't find it.

Have you tried saxmad3204's suggestions to see if they resolve your audio problems?

There WAS a backlight control on the original version of the firmware - you can see it in the User Guide you can DL from the SE site, it's in the Organiser menu. It's strange that it should be different from the firmware we ended up with, as the w715 is exclusive to VF!! For some reason they obviously don't want us to control the backlight...

As for the delivery report sound, I did what saxmad2304 suggested and I now get a strange little beep, better than nothing I suppose, but only just!

I really like the w715, but it does have a couple of annoying features.
