Sony Ericsson Elm - Find & Go, is this supported?

It's nearly time for me to upgrade my handset and I'm currently considering the SE Elm. One question though, can it support Vodafone Find & Go? If it doesn't, which of the SE phones on offer will?

  • W880i

  • X1i
If you need further assistance, just give me a shout :D.

Sony Ericsson Elm - Find & Go, is this supported?

I'm sorry, I don't understand your reply!

Are you saying that the phone isn't compatible with Find & Go, but it IS compatible with Vodafone Navigation?

If that IS what you're trying to say, then I'm even more baffled, as Find & Go and Vodafone Navigation are different names for the same App!!

Could somebody who really knows please reply?

Sony Ericsson Elm - Find & Go, is this supported?

Hi there Ray M,

Sukhi is right. The reason for this is that Vodafone Navigation and Find & Go are different products, and this is the reason for the different compatibility.

Let me know if you need anything else at all.

Cheers,

But surely Vodafone Navigation is an iPhone App? If so, then it won't work on the SE Elm, will it?

Hi Ray M,

I'm sorry for the confusion here. Vodafone Navigation is not available on the Sony Ericsson Elm.

I've edited Sukhi's post to reflect this now :)

Do you happen to know why it's not compatible? There's nothing obvious in the specs...

Sony Ericsson Elm - Find & Go, is this supported?

Hi Ray M,

Unfortunately we don't deal with the software development side of things on the eForum so wouldn't be able to say for sure as to why it isn't compatible, however it would normally be down to the software or firmware platform the phone is using.

Re: Sony Ericsson Elm - Find & Go, is this supported?

Just to update this thread, if you install the latest firmware available for the Elm, R7CA061, Vodafone Navigation (Find & Go) works fine!

Yes, I can confirm that my new elm (Feb 2011) has Vodafone Navigation preinstalled.  Though as I am not subscribed to the full service it doesn't seem to offer any advantages over using google maps to navigate.

Vodafone Navigation gives you turn-by-turn guidance and voice instructions, whereas Google Maps only gives you an overall route. I used to use it a lot before I changed to Wisepilot.

Re: Sony Ericsson Elm - Find & Go, is this supported?

If you want turn-by-turn you have to subscribe to the paid service.  The basic nvaigation installed on the current elm will calculate a route for you and give you a list of instructions, but doesn't even track your progress along it.  This means it is less useful than the google maps also installed.  At least google shows you are where you are along your route.

It might be worth paying if you are going to use it a lot, but personally, no.
