Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Firmware Update.

It was on Voda, I believe i am the first person to debrand the phone.

There is a noticable difference with the touch screen, thats much better now and the volume is louder as well on phone calls.

You state that you have debranded your phone, whereabouts did you do that?

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Firmware Update.

Is the touch screen less sensitive now? I found it a bit too eager but then I am coming from a G1/Magic screen! Volume on calls was an issue, has the call quality improved? Apparently they've tweaked the equaliser so there's more bass and a bit more noise reduction.

You might be the first yeah hehe, nothing like living life on the edge ^_^

Hehe, it reminds me of the Nokia N95 debrand ^_-

EDIT: I find it funny how a certain OP of the de-brand wants paypal donations whilst forbidding people from writing their own tutorial or the files itself, when I'm pretty sure it wasn't him that actually found the exploit to begin with...

Yeah, he claimed he had it all down 2 months ago *shrugs* I'm all for sharing information and sometimes you do have to protect your hard work, especially if you've spent time on a tutorial. However just ask to be credited instead of hiding behind copyright stuff, since really, that argument wouldn't hold water as its invalidating the warranty to begin with, and you're reverse engineering a software update process.

I guess some people just want props and money...

I'm checking it out in more depth though for a certain firmware backup...

Hi there jwd,

NeoBlade is spot on, debranding your handset will invalidate your Vodafone warranty. You may still be able to seek help from SonyEricsson regarding warranty issues and repairs, though I'd be sure to check first.

Debranding with some backup to restore to original settings was what I was told I could do and would not affect my warranty when I had the C905 about 18 months or so ago. Shame I've only just found out how to do it for that phone, because I might have held onto it for a month or two longer!

Anyway, I want a phone that works as described - as in has somewhere near to the suggested standards of durability, reliability, and usability. VF have, again, played around with this phone so disabling a number of very useful features, such as sony's online backup and facebook linking. I for one think that's good enough reason to debrand, as you can't apparently do anything under the sale of goods act (misdescription of the product) so I was told when similar issues where abound with the release of the C905.

Hey ho, hey ho, it's off to esato we go, where people are in the know, about how to give VF firmware the heave-ho, ho ho, ho ho, ho ho!!!

From a happy Dan T

X10 debranding

Just as an afterthought for anyone thinking of undertaking the suggestions here, search in market for a backup tool that will store everything for you to your sd card, otherwise you could be spending some time re-entering your contacts, apps, etc! Also, if you can't easily find the details on esato, just have a quick google search (hint - look up).

Vodafone are right in saying the warranty may be defunct if you do this, but, follow the instructions closely and ensure you follow EVERY step, and you shouldn't have a problem. Insurance for phones should not be affected by this, and if all works well, you will get the Android 2.0/2.1 updates as soon as SE release them - possibly a year before VF get round to it?????

If you are considering an X10 as a new phone and are spooked by all the complaining about VF restricting, delaying, or whatever, software updates, go get one from CarPhoneWarehouse, as they're not tied in apparently.

Just to clarify from my previous post about the C905 and alternative firmware - I was told about this by SE, not VF, just in case that's not clear - I'd hate to upset people at VF.

Oh, and it does work - I've a nice phone that has no VF restrictions on now :)

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Firmware Update.

A REPLY FROM CUSTOMER SERVICES.....another long drawn out not quite yes or no answer....!

Following from our conversation recently about the software version on your Xperia I have had several discussions with our technical team. They have confirmed that this week they are being trained on the updated Sony Ericsson software suite. They did confirm however that the newest version of the Xperia software is being looked at but could not confirm a definitive date as to when it would be available for direct download to your device. I did ask if they were aware of any of the problems with your device and if the newer software versions would fix this. They confirmed that the current software on your device shouldn t directly cause these faults but have taken on board the feedback you provided after your conversation with Sony Ericsson directly. If you are still experiencing the poor call quality and short battery life then I can confirm you are still within your first 28 days of taking the handset from store so if you were to return to the store they can replace your Xperia for another Xperia, but as we discussed this would still have the same software version.

Thank you for your patience in awaiting my follow up while I have been liaising with our technical team

If you've found the instructions, the only things I think that need clarifying are to do with the filenames - I opened screens side by side, and went to rename the files (in turn) and just copy and pasted the filename (ie just the text, not the file) so that it was exactly the same, before then backing the two existing files up and copying the new ones over.

I'd also point out that you MUST update the phone in each instance - each time it will tell you (most likely) that you have the latest version, so just click the button in the bottom right to update/repair the software anyway.

Hope this helps

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Firmware Update.

It does work fine and as Dan T mentioned, you do need to run the SEUS firmware update, regardless if you have the latest version or not so the required files are downloaded on your PC. Then do a backup of the files you're renaming by creating a copy (put it in a folder called X10 BACKUP somewhere). Then rename files 1 and 2 to your revision number and copy them back into the original folder to over-write them.

Run SEUS update again and voila... Unbranded firmware...

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Firmware Update.

1. Download and Unzip the files.
2. Load up SEUS
3. Update the handset via SEUS, it will probably say you have the lastest firmware on the phone but proceed with the reinstall
4. Once thats done open C:\Program Files (x86)\Sony Ericsson\Update Service\db\13740270\blob_fs or C:\Program Files\Sony Ericsson\Update Service\db\13740270\blob_fs
5. Rename the downloaded files to give them the same name as the files in the blob_fs directory
6. Re-run the update process
7. Enjoy a debranded handset.
