Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Firmware Update.

Yep, I agree with that comment. A great improvement. Still no Bluetooth dial up networking support though. Think thats not gonna come till 2.1

Ive got mine configured with the curvefish widgets to allow me to control APN, Wireless and Bluetooth from the home screen, which spend most of the time turned off. I only enable when required, and now I take my phone off charge at 8am and its still on about 85-90% charge when I go to bed. I'm not a heavy user, but it is a great improvement if you ask me.

Perhaps vodafone knew this update was coming so they are waiting to do the voda updates straight on this one and skip 16.

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Firmware Update.

Battery life has definately improved, checking the sleep time of the CPU and it does appear to sleep now. Before the update, i would unplug the phone at 5 pm, by 8am the next morning i would be down to around 20%, with very little use. On the new firmware, unplugged at 11am, now at around 50% after some heavy use and low signal area.

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Firmware Update.

It was probably a response to an earlier post...

Indeed if Vodafone manage to push out this now available firmware asap to their customers then there won't be too much to complain about. Need to apply this now to another phone then its happy days!

If you have upgraded your firmware and you have some spare time, could someone do a test for me? I've noticed that installing apks via other means than the Market seems to have been blocked or simply not working for me. I've been trying to install F-Secure's Anti-Theft app (free) for testing but no joy and have been in touch with the developer.

You can find the download by going to this website on your mobile phone - http://www.f-secure.mobi

I've been assured by the developers that they don't use international SMS to at least periodically send texts to check on the status of the mobile (unlike WaveSecure). If anyone has managed to install it and activate it properly please get in touch ^_^

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Firmware Update.

Upgraded to R2BA023 not long ago :P Not noticed a speed increase but then its not my phone so I can't tell subtle differences right off the bat. However, its certainly faster than the old versions and battery life is very good now. Only issue is for some reason Sony Ericsson has decided to add an extra step when you try to call someone from the Phonebook! I think it takes 4-5 steps now just to call a number! I know you can long-press but its hardly ideal considering you can nominate a main number to dial.

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Firmware Update.

No need to configure those things but thanks for testing! I'll get back to the developers about it as its finally installed for me too. I've tried the location thing and it works. Unless the phone is using GPS, it'll trace the nearest cell tower but its better than nothing. Ensure you've changed the default password first, then send a SMS to your phone with this...

#lock#YourCode

Replace "YourCode" with... well, your code! This will then remotely lock your code and will only unlock it with the code again. I would also put a password on F-Secure itself so someone else doesn't change the code.

To test out remote location, send a text to your phone with...

#locate#YourCode

And it will send a GoogleMaps link and co-ordinates to the alternative number that you have set earlier.

Come on Vodafone. I need/want that update. This forum has really helped me in the past, cant one of you guys just give the in house developers a ring and ask when we are likely to see this update.

Any news would be nice......... 1wk? 2wks?

Ive got to wait until Nov 2011 for my contract to expire and im worried about how long 2.1 will take to get pushed through if a simple firmware up date is taking this long.

Cheers

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Firmware Update.

RB2A020 isn't Android 2.1 btw Pete. It is however a very important firmware upgrade to the X10 because it fixes the battery drain and has loads of optimisations and speed increases.

For Android 2.1 on the X10, Sony Ericsson UK have stated Q3 so most likely it will be September for Generic unbranded firmware. Also 2.1 is not a small firmware upgrade, its pretty massive under the hood with Froyo (Android 2.2) a big upgrade too.

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Firmware Update.

I can explain what debranding does, but due to Terms & Conditions on this site I can't provide links. A simple search though will point you in the right direction :P

Basically what debranding does is to take your Branded Vodafone handset and changes it to a Generic UK Firmware version. Going back to the original Generic firmware adds Facebook Sync, Twitter Sync, Playnow and all the original apps that came with' the phone, minus anything Vodafone related. Naturally debranding will void your warranty but is reversible as far as I'm aware.

I question that as I don't think Vodafone have a leg to stand on. There was absolutely nothing in any of the (scant few) documents that I recieved when I renewed that say anything like that at all. It would fall foul of the Unfair Terms and Conditions protection act of 1999. I've yet to have anyone from VF respond to this. At worst, if something did go horribly wrong, all they would do is reset it to their default settings, just like a PC company would do while the machine was under warranty.

Just to set the record straight and so Vodafone know im not getting my wires crossed.

I understand the new/newest fireware update is not 2.1. Im not sure where 2.2 came from though as I have heard nothing from SE or any forums confirming that 2.2 is coming to the X10 anytime in the near future.

I suppose the point I was trying to make (obviously not very well) was that IF we have to wait X amount of time for a simple firmware update then how long will a "massive under the hood" upgrade take?

How long will can Vodafone keep its customer base waiting? This is rhetorical question as I think I already know the answer.

Xperia X10 Android 2.1 Update is due Q3
Xperia X10 Android 2.2 Update is due Q4

You are purely waiting on Vodafone to approve the firmware and that is unfortunately like asking how long is a piece of string. However, this will also be the same with forth coming updates as well . I really think they should operate in a much more transparent manner, as to be honest this is what the customer wants at the end of the day.

Id personally recommend debranding the phone as its a massive improvement over the Vodafone "butched" firmware.

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Firmware Update.

Help!!!

Thanks to vodafone I'm stuck with a slow buggy "smart phone".

I've tried to de-brand the phone a couple of times using the methods on show here (and esato and xperia.net) but it doesn't seem to have any effect on the firmware (is that what it's called ).

If anyone has any thoughts on getting me onto the generic firmware I'll forever be in your debt. If not I'm gonna try and get out of the contract by pushing a sale of good act (they sod me a product that I can't make full use of (missing data sync for example)

Thank to anyone and everyone who's willing to try

Baz

Don't know if any of you have notice re: f/w update, but there is a posting here:

http://forum.vodafone.co.uk/topic/56588-sony-ericsson-xperia-x10-how-do-i-sync-my-contacts-with-facebook/

where an update is due within 1 week - I have asked which version VF are planning on going to, so hopeful of a reply soon...

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Firmware Update.

Andy hit the release dates for the X10 however as stated by him they are for the Generic firmware. Fingers crossed the version Vodafone has is RB2A020 at the very least because that does solve the battery drain issue, unless you have an app that causes battery drain.

Me and Andy have tested said firmware as soon as they were released and I'll back up that its such a big improvement all round that this must be what Sony Ericsson envisioned the X10 in being from the off.

Also @Clubber, what is the baseband version you're running now on the X10? If you're stuck feel free to find me on Twitter... I can't post it here though due to T&C.
