Ok, first off, wher's the dedicated X10 forum gone? Anyway,loveign the 2.1 update. I had my contact copied to my SD card so i loaded them up. Then i went into Sync and hit yes on both Google and Facebook. But i then ended up with loads of duplicate numbers in each contact. I deleted everything and started again. This time round i also deleted everythgin out of my google address book online think that if it was empty then the phone woudl see the contact on my SD card and just copy them to my google acct. This time i got soem contact onlein but lost a load off my phone. Any suggestions? Also i seem to be getting 2 entries for facebook on every contact, one for facebook and one for Timescape facebook....syurely they are the same thing? And shoudln't havign sync tunred on mean that the contcat pics update when they are changed on facebook?

First of all they updated the forum from the 1st December, hence post dates all over the place.

In regards to your phonebook problem the exact same thing happen to me, pre update had 150 contacts, post update 600+ contacts lol...

Also in my frustration deleted the contacts on my phone thinking Google sync would retrieve from the server my original contacts however it also deleted my contacts on my Gmail (epic fail!)...Thought being clever I'll restore the contacts using the back up & restore phone functionality, but that application only sync'd non google contacts, which left me with 5 contacts

Further stupidity, I accidently backed up my phone rather than restore my phone post update hence lost all my text's a major d'oh moment lol...although I did back-up initially before 2.1 update.

Back to the point, with the contacts don't use the Facebook for Android App Sync contacts, use only the Timescape for Facebook sync, as this pulls/joins the relevant contacts you require for your phonebook, this option can be selected by going into the Phonebook, right at the top where the search field is, on the left there is an icon for groups, select that icon.

Scroll down you should have the two Facebook contact sync options deselect the one with your email but leave the timescape option or select it if hasn't already, also go to your Facebook for Android app, then settings, scroll to the bottom where it says 'sync contacts choose 'don't sync'

and voila that should sort out the issue

Thanks very much. Didn't even realsie that menu was there! Looking into it, i seem to have "My Contacts" appearing twice under my google group. Both are ticked. Any ideas how/why this coudl be? I'm assumign this means it is copyign everythgin from my google address book twice but i'm not really sure.

Doh. Now all my Facebook contacts have been listed twice. once for where i already had them (including phoen numbers etc) and again for just the facebook details. Grrrrrrrr.

I initially had loads of numbers and emails for each contact which can't be altered, but if you have already deselected the facebook for android contacts, you may have to individually seperate the contacts, this can be done by, selecting the contact then hit edit, on the edit screen press the hardbutton for menu on the x10 (square grid) and hit separate, then on the contact list join the contacts by long selecting the contacts and it should prompt with some recommendations or provide a drop down list.

To be honest the easiest way is start from fresh, because it's already done.....but it just requires you to play around with those settings i've mentioned to get what you desire....but yeh Sony Ericsson have made life slightly dificult, because all I want is my contact pictures to show up realtime

OK. So if i want to start from scratch......I'll just have to delete all my google contact online, all my contacts on the phone. noce i've done that i shoudl have an empty phonebook. Then i do the group thing you mentioned above. If i then restore the back up from the SD card, will the relevant contact match up or will i end up with, for example: Dave Facbook contact, then another entry for Dave from the SD card.

Don't rely on 'back up and restore' as it only backs up your contacts saved on the phone and not your Gmail contacts.....I managed to restore contact numbers usuing Vodafone 360 app from Market, runs much better on 2.1.
