The new Sony Xperia S

Dear All

There's been a lot of noise this week about the new Sony (rather than SE) Xperia S that is due out in the first quarter of this year.  It looks like the new "flagship" phone now that Sony has parted from Ericcson, but I have also read that Vodafone UK has stated that they will not be stocking this new phone.

My contract is due up in March this year and this new phone could be the reason I stick with the Xperia range, but it looks like I won't be able to do that unless i change provider.  Does anyone have any ideas on this one?

Cheers

Ian

Re: The new Sony Xperia S

Hi ianthetaxman

As soon as any phone is announced to be stocked by us, this will be shown on our coming soon page. I don't have any further information for this phone other than that page.

Thanks

Martin

Re: The new Sony Xperia S

I was looking forward to upgrading to the Xperia S in March, it would be a real shame if I had to change providers to do so.

Re: The new Sony Xperia S

My contract expired in November and I was hanging on for the "right" phone. The Sony Xperia S is going to be my next phone so lets hope Vodafone decide to stock it or I could be going elsewhere!!!!!

Re: The new Sony Xperia S

agree, my contract is due to upgrade soon, it's sad that Vodafone didn't bring in the Xperia S. 3 might have a better tariff, especially for the mobile data.

Re: The new Sony Xperia S

I have complained about Glasgow network issues recently, but if Vodafone are not stocking the new Sony Xperia S, those network issues will be irrelevant, I will be going elsewhere once my contract is up anyway.

Re: The new Sony Xperia S

I was looking forward to upgrading to the Xperia S in March too. Currently I see I have two choices:

1. Leave vodafone.

2. Upgrade to a similar phone, sell the handeset and buy an Xperia S that is sim/carrier free. I wouldnt be out of pocket and wouldnt have all the Vodafone bloatware installed.

I guess threads like these might make it clear that there is enough interest to warrant carrying the Xperia S.

Deciding to hedge thier bets on what will be the market's technological leader when EVERY other carrier is offering it is just bad business. By the time they decide it looks liike the model is performing well they will already have lost the customer base who would have bought the phone.

Unless of course Vodafone has exclusive rights to some other uber-phone? But I doubt it.

Re: The new Sony Xperia S

I want this phone....but which network should I choose?

have been with Voda for 11 years and really dont want any bloatware this time - ruined my other phone and had to trade warrenty for Sony Ericsson Firmware!!!! How ridiculas considering the phone was SE anyway!!!

This the first Sony phone for a long time, I want to keep it SONY.

VODAFONE KEEP YOUR HANDS OFF THE FIRMWARE and get it in stock and for the first time 6 years you'll have a COMPLETELY happy customer....hahaha

Re: The new Sony Xperia S

Little chance of that - the VF software is the published reason for the delays in releasing updates, that and VF testing the new stuff to make sure it works ok. The "coming soon" section looks a bit sad at the moment, as there are no phones listed, so not sure what the time scale is going to be on this one. We have Samsungs and Blackberrys in the house, but they all used to be SE phones - dunno at this stage which way to jump, but probably my luck that this isn't out when I need it to be.

Oh well.......

Re: The new Sony Xperia S

I know, but we can hope someone is listening!! (Their listening, but it will be what suits Vodafone as after 6 years of this its very clear they dont care about loyal customers) - Wait for this post to be deleted!

It just annoys me that the manufacture spends millions developing a phone and tailoring its software, only for a Voda developer ruin it.

The last 3 phones I've had have all had issues and after spending back to Vodafone (upto 5 times) the issues still persist. I then have to take matters into my own hand and debrand the phone (which voids my warranty) then supprise supprise the phone then works perfect!

Also the Sony Xperia S will be updating to Ice Cream Sandwich and I'd like it as soon as possible not months after its released like my previous handset.

VODAFONE DO WHAT YOU BEST AND PROVIDE ME WITH A GOOD NETWORK AND LET THE MANUFACTURES DO WHAT THEY DO BEST.........MAKE PHONES!!!!!!!!

Or please give us the option to choose a phone without your firmware. Prettty Please with a cherry on top!

Re: The new Sony Xperia S

beggars belief that vodafone aren't getting on board with this phone.   i was tempted to go with the nokia 800 lumia or even the 900 if it ever becomes available over here.  but this phone looks like it might blow them all out of the water.

missing the boat here chaps, and conveniently my contract expires in march.............. :smileyhappy:

Re: The new Sony Xperia S

I phoned the 'disconnects' department just now and the person I spoke to said that, as far as he was aware, Vodafone will be getting the new Sony Xperia S and will be the first network to make it available.

Good news if it's true!!

Re: The new Sony Xperia S

IT WOULD BE GREAT FOR VODAFONE IF THEY SELL THIS MOBILE..

I WOULD DEFINATELY GET IT.. AND SO WOULD ALL MY FRIENDS..

ITS A GREAT ALTERNTIVE TO THE IPHONE, AND ACTUALLY BETTER ACCORDING TO THE SPECIFICATION..

Re: The new Sony Xperia S

I suspect VF is waiting to see what else falls out of the market in this first quarter of the year - must admit it looks a bit bleak on the selection list when all there is to look at are HTC, Blackberry, iphone and a few others.

Was seriously considering the iphone or SGII or even III if it gets released soon, just don't know any more!

Re: The new Sony Xperia S

Its strange. Because if you go through the carphone warehouse you can buy a most sony ericssons on a vodafone contract. So maybe there just going to sell mobiles through other retailers rather than themselves. ???

Re: The new Sony Xperia S

I think they must still have old stock of the phones - a couple of weeks ago the VF site was still offering the Arc S but the main site said it wasnt stocking any SE phones, so dunno what would happen if you tried to buy one of these from VF!

SE is no longer manufacturing phones as Sony bought this arm of the business from them outright, so all new Xperia (or whatever they call them) phones will be branded "Sony".

Re: The new Sony Xperia S

I feel like I'm getting the Iphone rammed down my throat, I DO NOT WANT an Iphone and I will go with another provider to get the sony s and lose no sleep over it, would just be easier if vodafone stock it.
