Hopefully this means the new firmware is finally being rolled out. Will confirm in a couple of hours when I have access to a PC.

Sprince83 I think they are just teasing us. I saw your posting and went into the "search for update" on the phone. Got the same message as you saying

New Sony Ericsson software is available for your phone. Update your software to get the latest features and corrections and keep your phone in the best possible condition. You must use a computer to update your phone. Find out more at sonyericsson.com/update

So I excitedly grabbed my USB cable and connected the phone, clicked into the software update section in PC Companion, only to be told that "your phone is up to date. You already have the latest software".

Very disappointing. When will Vodafone get the finger out and release the firmware? Sony Ericsson themselves emailed me weeks ago telling me they had rolled it out and how wonderful it is.

I've been a VF customer for many, many years and ignored all the special deals various providers offer to switch. Colleagues get new phones with free TVs and pay less than I do per month but I simply tell myself I get reliable coverage and reliable customer service and that's worth more to me. That is a viewpoint I am seriously reconsidering.

Check your PC companion settings, by default it checks for an update every other day I believe, you want to alter this to every time the phone is connected and then retry.

Mark, I believe you go to the update / repair screen and there is a settings button, if you select this it will ask you when you want it to check for updates. When I get to a PC I'll find out exactly were it is, unless some one can explain in the mean time.

Updating as we speak. Don't forget to run backup and restore everyone (it prompts you to do this).

I'd recommend opening PC Companion on the PC before connecting the phone. In the top right of the main PC Companion screen there's a link to "PC Companion Settings" Click this and set it to check for updates every time you connect the phone. Then connect the phone and it should detect the update straight away.

It says it takes about 30 mins on an average broadband connection.

Once the software has updated I think it's important to login to your Google account BEFORE restoring settings otherwise you might have problems with any apps you've bought from the market.

I ran it through the update service where i had to turn of phone then plug it into computer holding back button and it did it automatically!

I couldnt get mine to update so ran the repair which has updated me to 2.1

mine will not update, the update will run but it only puts 1.6 on

Just wanted to say thanks to vodafone for getting us the update. We're all quick enough to mump about it when we don't get it.

Timewise the firmware update didn't take anywhere near the 30 minutes that PC Companion suggested, however reintating all my apps probably did take about that long as it asks you individually to install each of them! I have about 60-odd apps so if you have more than this you might want to set aside a decent amount of time to do the update.

Only thing I have had a problem with is contacts. It seems the backup/restore app only handles the contacts if they haven't been backed up by Google Sync. I simply assumed that backup/restore would handle all my contacts so didn't run a new Google Sync. Then of course I found that some of my recently added contacts were missing. So if you have used Google Sync to back up your contacts, make sure that is up to date before you run firmware update.

Just done mine, had a bit of a heart attack when the screen came on with just a camera icon!!

How do you get back apps you previously downloaded? Go in from scratch? Can't see anywhere where it recalls them?

Me too.. what are we doing wrong ? It still says on the phone, you have a new upgrade. I have downloaded new version of PC companion. Still upgrades back to 1.6

Hi I did mine through PC Companion, and it worked but I do not like the new predictive text at all, the old one was a lot better, wish I could that bit back.

Still cant win em all, but so far so good, think I like it.
