Xperia X10 - Mobile data network - letter 'H'

I updated my X10i to 2.1 yesterday and believe there is a huge improvement to what was already a great phone. I live in an area with good 3g coverage and I am now finding that instead of 3g the letter 'H' often appears in the notification bar on the home screen. Can anybody confirm that this is referring to HSPA (according to Wikipedia a Evolved High-Speed Packet Access).

I take it your phone is de-branded. I wish vodaphone woould release the update already! I love the phone but having read into what this update brings, I can't wait.

Almost makes me want to de-brand mine but too scared cos I would probably end up bricking my phone!

No, my phone is registered to Vodaphone. I never received any text to update but just tried the software update button in settings and was surprised find the update available,

Your obviously a very lucky person, as I try mine all the time and each time I get told that my phone is up to date. Can't wait for the update, I actually sent an email off to the supposed CEO of Vodaphone today asking why they can't be like other phone providers and release the update and stop messing about with them by putting their own rubbish on. I'll let you know what response I get if any.

Can you let us know if it was definately the 2.1 firmware your phone has updated to?
If it is, have vodafone included all their ###### 360 stuff in the update?

Cheers

Make sure you check the settings in the SE software... It defaults to "check once a week" (or something similar). That's what mine was set to and kept telling me I was up.to date. After I changed mine to "Check the next time I connect the phone" and reconnected my phone, it found the update!

Yes, it is the new 2.1 firmware with all the enhancements I've been reading about and there is nothing about 360 on the phone but then
again I had no 360 stuff on 1.6. I'm on a monthly contract but have never signed up for 360.

Hi daverobcro

As DPH has confirmed the H sign is equivelant to 3.5G, I hope that you can notice the improvement in the speed when browsing the internet.

If you any other questions please let us know.

Martin,

Can you please confirm why one user can update their software and nobody else can?

I have had a response from the desk of Guy Laurence CEO of Vodafone.

'Thank you for your email to Guy Laurence about the firmware updates for the Sony Ericsson X10.

I understand the frustration it must cause in waiting for these updates to come through however Vodafone's device team is currently working on this to ensure it is fully compatible with Vodafone's internet settings and additional services.

The firmware release is due shortly however regrettably I don't have a set date for this.

My apologies for any inconvenience this may cause you.

Kind Regards,

Nick Buxton

What a joke!

Yay Vodafone, making us wait because you need to check that apps that no one actually uses still work on an update that is already released on other devices on your network. Surely there can't be muh difference between 2.1 on one device and 2.1 on the X10?

Pull your finger out and stop shafting your customers! I pay on average £70/month for an out of date phone, this is not on!

hello everyone

I appreciate the need for information regarding firmware update ETA's, as well as detailed information regarding those releases, however we do not have any information regarding the above.

Once this is made available it will be posted publicly.

as someone that runs online communities on social networks for a living I can safely say Vodafone, your community team (probably more the management of it rather than the people working on it such as Reidar) is useless and utter rubbish!

What's the point in having it if all your going to do is provide these boring and repeating non-answers?!

You may well say we answer lots of other questions and queries on here but for most of those the information is already available elsewhere on the Vodafone site, it's just that people don't know how to search for it!

Hi Greenie1

At this point you would not be able to swap your device for another as this is outside the initial 7 day period. Although we still have no timescales, hanging onto your device may still be the best option.

Thanks

Fine, you have no timescales.....but WHY??????? Please offer us a valid reason why some users can update, and others can't? Also why do Vodafone CLEARLY not give a damn about customer satisfaction where as other providers do?! What a waste of space Vodafone are. NEVER EVER AGAIN!

Its a bit poor isn't it. I have a phone that is running an old piece of software.
7 days to return it isn't enough time to find out if its a good phone or not.
Battery life is rubbish, I have to charge it twice a day (...and yes, I've killed all the apps, turned off wifi etc when not needed, also, let the battery run down completely before recharging).

Also, its no good for syncing contacts as I have an Apple Mac, this seems to be for PC's only. Any chance in future that when you sell someone a smartphone you ask them what software or computer they use. It all makes a difference.

to say that "we can't give a timescale" is complete and utter bollicks. all testing is set out to a pre-organised timetable so to say that you can't give an estimate on when the update will be available is either a blatant lie or a sign of total incompetence. i'm currently looking into de-branding as from what i hear, the vodafone warranty is worthless anyway and after the farcical situation regarding the n97/n97 mini update, i'm not prepared to keep hanging on with constant fob offs and stalling comments. this update has clear performance enhancements so to delay its release shows pathetic customer service
